Hey Cliff.....read your post on your flaps...the concensus is fix those flaps you wll need them..If you are already at 27 lbs..you will certainly bring it up to 30+ lbs with the addition of glass coat and paint...thats only 3 lbs..can easily happen..flaps are really needed at those weights...I did not use the Top Flite design of wires to drive the sections I used 1/8 inch ply oblong discs inserted into slots cut into the flap end ribs.....when my flaps are disconnected from the servos they free fall to approx.42 degrees ,absolutely no binding....good luck with your build RCPILOT78

Mine is 27 pounds done, ready to fly, right now. I would like to see a pic of how you got rid of the wire and what you added. It looks like one of my hinges twisted, I think my dog hit it while it was drying.

CIMARA...I just installed the oblong discs into the center flap..the disc is then incerted into slots cut in the flap inner and outer flap end rib..It is very very trickey..to get them to operate without binding but once they are adjusted they do not flutter mine lock solid in the up position and also in the down position..again this design is a hair puller until you get them to operate smoothly...much more scale looking.when my flaps are deployed the large seperation gaps are closed like the full scale..as far as flutter remember your flaps are only deployed at landing speeds where flutter does not occure.

Neat looking plane RCPILOT78! Good work. I really like the paint job. Your idea on the flaps looks like a goo one too.

Rc how did you cut the slots in the flap ends and do they just float in them or are the glued to the center flap.Iam thinking they are glued to the center flap am i right

CIMARA...I drew the slots in the end ribs in the same location where the pins would normally go than cut them with my xacto blade the ribs are light ply and will cut..the disc that drives the outer flap is glued in solid in the center section..however the disc that drives the inner flap has to float because of the radical curve in the wing at that location...that disc is pinned with a 3/16 inch dowl..held in place with the top and bottom flap skin...this allowed the disc to float during transition and than it will lock solid in either the up or down flap position...the disc to the outer flap is not that critical and can be glued in solid and that allows the outer flap to lock solid in position...I hope that helps..

TIMOTHY...yes I replaced the strut rod with a longer one...and by the way don't forget to file flats in both set screws or the strut will slip with all the weight back there..!!!

As I see it the only bad/ dum questions are the ones that don't get ask, and the neet ting about these forms you get a coupla of replys on most questions, so you get to take your pick on wich way you go. I have a folder on this thread and it started out with 1page and a few pic now is about 30 pages , and I ques about a 100 pic's, and none of my build.

The realy neet thing is so much of these ideascan be used on any bird

and I assume SD is San Diago not south dakota hehe. any way our field is so soft you would sink up to your ancles if stood in one spot long enough to make a flight so with the snow melt and spring rains it will be mid to march or early april be for we will get to start flying

Bob...SD is South Dakota.

The foot of snow we got with that last blizzard is nearly gone. We have had back to back 67 degree days with 10 mph winds. 10mph is the same as calm in SD as I am sure you know. The only time the wind is truly calm is right before the tornado hits ya!

The home office of my employer is in Woodbury, MN. I might have mentioned that to you before. If I travel to Woodbury for a project (which I did last year) I might have to look up your field and get a visitors pass or something. Also if your club has a fly in could you send me a PM?
