RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair
I built mine according to plan, covered with monocote,no gear doors or anything fancy. I have a DLE 55 and she flies fine, not ballistic speed but good enough, I did have to add quite a bit of weight upfront to cg. It is one of my most tamest birds to fly and land.

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair
Thanks guys for the response
If a 55 is just ok, what is the most common engine people are using.
I will tell you that my builds end up a bit on the heavy side cause I don't spare the glue
Thanks much for getting back to me

Larry,
The most common engine appears to be the old reliable Zenoah G62, also known as the lead sled.
It uses a 22x10 prop and probably puts out less power than your DLE55 but it is heavy, it is cheap, and it is bullet proof.
On the other hand I've seen people put in 3W 70's and DA85's.
Use what you feel comfortable with!

ENGINE QUESTION
Looking at the Zenoah has anyone used the newer electronic ignition engine rather than the CDI? Just wondering about reliability?
Also, I am down to either a Zenoah or a DA-DA is expensive so not sure I want to spend the cash. This would be a DA-60
Any opinions.

In looking at the spec's on the DA-60 it may have a bit more grunt than a G-62, I have no first hand knolage on the DA but we have some in our club on 3D birds and they seam to be vary good. As far as the CID from what I have read it is not a problem just use a hi m/a battery
All I can tell you is my bird with a std. 62 flies great its the guy on the sticks that has the problems So if the $$$ are a problem go with a 62.
Just one added note if you are building a kit build it as lite as possable under 29 lbs and you will be a happy camper

Becouse in the kit they did not plan in the taper you have to start a T-6 the way I did minr was to put the i\tip block on and get it right on the top, and the sanded the center down to get the taper, then just sanded the rest of the tip and rib T-7 to shape just eye balled it

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair
i've been working on the fuse of late in an attempt to finish off the main construction.sliding canopy ,scale tail wheel ,operational cowl flaps,a couple of access hatches and servos and push rods for elev and rudder are done and all seem to work well so far.
as this is my first kit build and i'm still learning as i go it would be good to get some feed back.

Well for me it lookslike you are comming along fine nice clean build, and for a first one that is a good thing.
But for a hard A@#$ scaler you wing tips are off, when looking from the front " upper surface should have been a stright line all the way to the tip" and the tapper from the bottom.
The tail wheel doors look like they are comming right along

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair
Hi,
Flew my Topflite Giant Corsair today, flew nicely, but was a little underpowered - seemed to struggle even in climbing turns.
I've got a G62 with an Xoar 22x8 - is this the best prop for this motor/airframe or are people flying other sizes/brands?
Cheers
Dave

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair
Hi Dave aka dabevan
Nice Pic's and a great build
You said you are running a G-62 on a 22 X 8, but you did not state any RPM's I am running the same thing and gettint 7950 yo 8k r's, and my bird flies vary scale like, good climing turns and nice big round loops, but is does slow down on the top side. If you strighten out the up line it is not great, but for my kind of flying it is exceptable. it will do all of the scale aerobatics nice and clean. The engine only has about 3 4 hours on it, but the one I have in my P-47 gets about 8200 to 8300 depending on the weather, also I am running 100 ave gas with Klutz model oil at 50:1, the ave gass does not stink up the car like our regular auto gas.
Hope this helps
Cheers Bob T
