cimara,
The name of the thread is "Building a Top Flite GE 1/8 scale F4U Corsair". I still haven't received your patterns. Maybe if you would please send me another set. I am going to reduce them and use them on my 1/8 scale Corsair.
Thanks,
Gibbs

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair
Gibbs,
If you want to build a 1/8th Corsair I should have an original set of Top Flite plans that you can have if you'll pay the shipping. I built a 1/8th Corsair for my first warird build. I had a lot of fun on tha project and Ibuilt it before this or other good threads were started. Let me know.

Tomcat_104,
The Top Flite Gold Edition F4U-1 Corsair kit is between the 1/8 and 1/7 size scale, I just bought the kit. I wanted to build it before the Giant Corsair so I could do all the modifications on it and know how to build it. The instructions are almost identical between the two kits. One is just smaller. Every body calls it a 1/8 scale but the scale cockpit from Top Flite for it is 1/7 scale. Whats with that? I have a thread for the build called "Building a Top Flite GE 1/8 scale F4U Corsair" on this Forum. I will start the build on Monday or Tuesday as soon as I am finished with the Cub. I only have a little touch up work to do and then it's off to be fabric covered by a friend. I will post pictures as soon as I get started on my new table.

Gibbs,
You're right about TF being between 1/8th and 1/7th with most people calling it a 1/8th kit. I looked at the cockpit several times at my LHS and never bought it because it said 1/7 on it. I look forward to your new thread and will follow you progress thoroughly. Good Luck------------

cimara,
I couldn't get it to print. I don't know why it won't but it just won't. I guess I have to depend on the mail if you send me another set or just try to fake it.
Thanks for trying,
Gibbs

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair
I have been trying for over 2 weeks to contact Iron Bay to follow-up on their e-mail quote for a cockpit/sliding canopy kit. Does anyone know whether they have gone out of business?
I would also appreciate suggestions on other high-quality cockpit kits for the TF GS Corsair. The Top Flite cockpit kit I built for my 60-size Corsair is OK, but I think I should be able to find something better for the GS Corsair. Ditto for a pilot. I have been looking for an Elite Force Lt. Doc Miller, but cannot find a source.
Thanks,

If the price is right, I may have to sell my TF Giant Corsair with the retracts. They've been sitting aournd for Four years now.

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair
jdunstan,
I got my sliding canopy/cockpit from John at Iron Bay after about a month of waiting from November 30th to just after Christmas. E-mail Iron Bay and address it to John. He will get back to you as soon as he can. The RC stuff is a side line. He has Government contracts and they come first. Sometimes he's out of the office for a week to 2 weeks at a time. He is still in business. I am very satisfied with mine. It looks great and will be a breeze to install. Be patient but keep hounding him!
cimara,
I think you would have to make those yourself but each plane is a custom order and maybe they will do it for you. This kit or ARTF Corsair is a ways down the road. The kit, retracts, and 7" wheels a $4,200.00. Add the engine, servos, receiver, and you name it and your comming in at over $6,000.00. Pretty steep. I have to sell my Harley Fatboy before I can get that one. The kit alone is 1,600 British pounds. You crash and your dead. I would have to try to get some kind of liability and comprehensive insurance with a $250.00 or $500.00 deductable to fly that baby. They sure are pretty though aren't they?
Order away, over and out!

Gibbs I would kep the Harley Fatboy and build a ziroli. cheaper and more fun to actualy build the plane than to just bolt it together .My opinion

cimara,
I'm going to sell the Harley anyway because I don't ride it enough to justify keeping it. It's paid for and I can use the $$$$$$$$. I'm not going to get the Tiger Models Corsair anyway. I think it's overpriced and it all fiberglass. I like wood and I love to build to much.

Tomcat_104,
You asked to see what I'm putting on my building table to let pins stict to it. It's Elmers Foam Board. Here a few photos. One of them is how I duck tape them down, but that was my old saging table in the photo. I will look at the Don Smith Corsair when I get a chance.

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair
Hey NCIS,
If you like to build so much want to help me out with some of my projects? Got lots of em... Corsair completion, P-51 retracts retrofit, 2 quarter scale Cubs to finish, B-17 to retrofit for flaps and retracts, Christen Eagle and a Yellow P-38 but that is too big to ship to you and even worse to get back from you... Almost done with the Funtana 100 but then again that is an ARF... Help? ;-)

NCIS:
Thanks for the info on Iron Bay. But I have bought a 1/6 scale Corsair cockpit kit from Viking Cockpits (www.vikingcockpits.com). It is very well-made, and includes literally everything but the paint. And it includes very detailed instructions on finishing and assembly. My only problem is that I will have to cut it and the pilot's legs off "at the knees" due to the limited depth of the cockpit cavity in the fuselage. The sliding canopy would have been a stretch for my building skills anyway.

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair
JDUNSTAN,
The sliding canopy that CTFLYBOY and WOLF190 made relly is pretty easy. Wulf190 even made a video of the build which really helps. I really wasn't going to do it at first but after I saw the video I decided to go ahead and do it. I'm glad I did, I even put servo power to mine since I had an extra channel. If you change your mind I have a copy of the video that I can send you.

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair
jdunstan,
I love to build but I already have three lined up and a fourth one on the burner. I will be busy for at least 2 to 3 years. Except for the 1/8 scale TF GE F4U Corsair, the rest are all GIANTS!!! My fourth build will probably be a 120" Corsair by Don Smith or a 100" Miester Corsair. I'm leaning on the 100" Miester to keep the cost down. These planes are breaking the bank.
cimara,
I got the patterns today.
Thank you so much,
Gibbs
