If I remember correctly it was around $40, well worth the money IMHO. The roundel stencils masks are numbered and have a center mark so one just lays up one circle, spray, let dry for a day, another circle, spray, etc. Gary at getStencils, know his stuff and had scale suggestions (like the letter B is a bit larger, etc.).

I was getting impatient and tried removing the stencil mask after 6 hours and the latex would lift, best to let it dry 24 hours, and it was hot this weekend 99F.

I not the detail - finishing type of modeler - the stencil masks really helped me out. Looking back I should have got Gary to cut out the nose art stencil masks - but I was not looking that far ahead, a buddy got the stencils masks for a TFp47 with nose art and the nose art came out really well. cheers - ken

Rich,
Gary at GetStencils is very reasonable, I believe I spend $25 for 16 stencils for the HE-162. He missed one and sent it free! Gary is very responsive also. Highly recommended.

Great thread and I have already gleaned much info.
I purchased a 1/5 PICA spitfire that was already built. Problem is I have no plans to do the final set up.

Model is built very well with light fuse but heavy wings. 89 inch WS with inverted ST3000 and onboard glow.

With no plans looking for input in 4 Q's:
1) where is the best CG location?
2) what are the throws (hi/lo) for Ail,elev, rudder?
3) what servos (torque) did you use on above control surfaces (two for ail, and two for flaps is my set up)
4) Modeler at Warbirds over Deleware said ST300 requires Morgan fuels to run the best. He stated to ask for the "Super tiger blend"
Morgan's website had no mention of any special blend. What fuel works best in ST3000?
5) i also have a 3w-60 rear carb. should i convert to gas?

Thanks in Advance,
Mike P.

Red Max fuel works great in my ST3000. From FHS Supply in Clover, SC. I've been using Red Max fuel for about 25 years.

Mike My plans shows the CG at 5 7/8 from the leading edge at the center of the wing. This may be different from the Pica Spit. but probably close.
I plan on using hitec 605 on everything except elev . I will use a 645 mg on the elev. and a hitec 700 1/4 scale on the flaps. I would use arround 85 oz on everything except elev. and 120 oz on the elev. I am not familiar with the 3w-60 at all so I can't help you there.
I would start at 11/2 on the elev hi rate and half of that on the low rate. Ail 3/4 high 1/2 low , Rudder as much as you can get. You might do a serch on the Pica spit or start a new post. You might find some one that is flying the Pica Spit.
I have an AE Spit 85 in ws that I fly with a Zenoh 38 and it flies it scale. not a rocket . Whitch is fine with me. Hope this helps Rich

The old Super Tigres,(2000,2500,3000) require fuel with a much lower oil content than normal. I'm currently running a 2500 on 15% nitro and about 12% oil (10% castor, 2% synthetic) which is custom made for me locally. I know that Byron and some of the other fuel manufacturers used to offer special blends for the big STs and the key to all of them was their low oil content.

You are absolutely correct. Fred (from FHS) created special blends of fuel for the large ST engines. I should have mentioned that.

Texan is coming along slowly Rich. Wing is glassed and primed and ready to receive surface detail. I've just started putting glass on the tailfeathers and, hopefully, the fuse will be all glassed in the next week or so. I started a new job a few weeks ago and managed to jump out of the frying pan and into the fire! Lots of hours, but at least I like what I'm doing again! I'll post pics of the T-6 as soon as I start the surface details. I also just picked up a Top Flite P-40 from Bob Frey which I am fixing up a bit. Bob did a beautiful job on it (13th place in the Masters) but the last flight saw a dead stick, gear up landing which did some damage. I hope to have both the Texan and the P-40 at the 1/8th event in October. Will we see you and the Spit there?

Finally got a motor for the Spit. MVVZ35 Made a muffler and got it all mounted. Do you think that will be enough cooling? Got the tail feathers all glued on and hope to get some paint on soon. I did have a bench crash, cracked the engine fairings and the fushlage. It's fun getting old and clumsy. got all the repairs done , just need to put some primer on.
Still have the cocpit to go . recieved a Brit piolit from FT. It is a little small 1/6 but I am on the short side too.
I plan on painting some aluminum paint on the plane first . then my colors. Maybe rub through with some steel wool to get a wearhered look. Wearthering is not my cup of tea so if you have any suggestions let me know. Rich

Got back on the Spit. With info I got from Chad Veich I made the wheel bulge in the wing. I made it from 1/8 balsa. glassed and primmered. I mounted it with white glue. The tape is to give me a clean edge . Then I added bondo and sanded to a nice couteur. also woked on the cocpit. The color in the pic looks gold but it is int green.
I talked to Gary at Get Stensils yesterday and I need to send him the info for the Stensil. He had a heart attack a couple weeks ago but is alot better now. Gary sounds like a real nice guy.
Chad when and where is the 1/8 Airforce going to be this fall? How is the AT6 comming.

Rich, the Spit looks just great. Maybe you will sell me your set of plans when you're done with them eh? I'd like to use the Platt plan to build a Seafire XVII someday. The 1/8th event is October 21-22 and will be held at Superstition Airpark in East Mesa. I have been working 7 days a week for the last month (deadline to meet) and the T-6 has not been touched. I should be done today or tomorrow with work and get back to a more normal schedule. I hope to get my Top Flite P-40 put back together in time for the 1/8th event. No way the Texan will be done but I am looking forward to getting back on it. Will the Spit be done?

I got two sets when I got the Spitty. no charge. The MK xv would be very interesting too with the folding wing. You sur wouldn't see many of them.

Wow Rich, what a nice gesture! Much appreciated as well. I loaned my set out to somebody and never got them back again. (Don't remember who it was!) I look forward to meeting you at the 1/8th event.

I got 'em Rich, thanks a bunch! Finally got a chance to pull them out of the tube last night and look them over. Sure wish I had time to get going on a Seafire but I think I better finish up a few other projects first. (about a dozen or so!) Thanks again Rich, I owe you one.
