RE: KMP Stuka-build details
I painted the fairings RLM 76 and the mechanisms black as per the full sized, but as you can see, the aircraft's underside colour is far greener than RLM 76. Maybe Alanc can give me some direction as to what or were to get some paint that will match the underside a little better.
Going to have to make a cardboard cutout T-34 or sherman
The other pic is the wife coming downstairs to check up on me
Thanks
Dave

Thanks mate,
I haven't done anything to the wing centre section. no problems in that area so far. The cracking on the underside of the fuse has also stopped, so no dramas there either. The maintenance i did do was make a new tail wheel bracket, remove the lead from inside the cowl as it was really damaging the cowl mounting screws holes, and reattach the gunner who had been shot by a P-47 at the last warbirds meet and was just rolling around the rear of the cockpit. I made up a bracket in aluminium that when over then engine and i have attached the lead to that instead.
I also want to do a 500 pounder but am currently looking for a suitable bomb to do it with. i'm told that the hanger 9 150 size P-47 bombs look pretty good, but it might just be a little small. What are you using for yours? did you make up a working trapeze?
Thanks
Dave

Hi rockz
I was also looking at doing a central bomb drop. there was an artical in a rc scale models mag featuring a plans built stuka c/w bomb drop.
This guy used the swing crutch as a clamp to retain the bomb in flight and simply released the crutch to drop the bomb.
Rockz - what part of Godzone are you in?
I'm in Chch

RE: KMP Stuka-build details
Well, the installation of the bomb drop is completed, all i need now is the matchbox to free up some channels, and i when round to Pete Oz's to pick one up but he had run out of stock. should have one by next weekend with a little luck. Now that she is up to 10 servos in the airframe, i should really look at installing another r/x battery back and H/D switch too. the Stuka is my only warbird not running dual batteries.
No real drama's anyway as the warbirds event for this weekend has been cancelled[&o] the field was flooded yesterday and they predicted another storm for today. We are all bracing for it as the last few days we have been having cyclone style storms that have ripped roof's off and flooded plenty of homes. currently we are have 30 knots winds and 32c temps. not the most comfortable of weather...
Thanks
Dave

RE: KMP Stuka-build details
Hey guys, I've read and reread from beginning to end, I should be receiving the latest iteration (model), the IMAA legal version in the next few days. I've seen quite a few pics in the thread with some awesome weathering details. How is everyone doing their weathering? I plan on Lustrecoat flat with chalk and lead and alcohol. Its worked well in the past but I'm hesitant with this finish. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

RE: KMP Stuka-build details
I have the "B" (yellow tail/cowl) IMAA version coming. Apparently the last KMP stuka available in the US from known suppliers like KMP and VQ. Anyhow....havent decided what motor to use....either an electric or a saito 180.

I have been monitoring this forum ever since I got my "D" but I haven't started it because if I do I'll never finish the G.S. Spitfire I've started but I am collecting parts so when I get to it I can go without interuption I picked up a saito 180 GK for it but I was interested in what servos guys have used and what pilots are in the one out there Also has anyone used the cannon available for it I would like to know how it looks or even what it looks like since the web site doesn't show it and $90 is alot to spend sight unseen

RE: KMP Stuka-build details
At last a day with reasonable weather, all of the little niggles sorted, so no more excuses she has to fly.
I must say I was not to sure how she was going to fly, lining up the flaps and ailerons was not what you would call an exact science. In the end I used a steel rule on the control surface, then using a second measured the distance at two different points to make sure it was parallel to the wing.
The Saito 1.80 fired up, all ground checks done, no time like the present, 3/4 throttle and she was off in about 30' in a 8mph breeze, eased the power back to clicks of right trim and she was flying hands off. the breeze picked up a bit which caused a bit of wing rock, which was expect with that dihedral. Most of the flight was at less than half throttle which caused a problem with the engine running a bit to rich on the bottom end, as I lowered the throttle the engine cut at about 30' going down wind, gently brought her round into wind and landed her in the ploughed part of the field outside the strip.
Checked her over, tweaked the engine, time for another flight and another flight and other flight, about 6 flight in all, the more I flew her the more and more I liked her, a really nice plane to fly, looks superb in the air.
Tried the stall, she reluctantly dropped the right wing levelled out then dropped the left wing which then caused a slow controllable spin. Flaps work very well, approach with flaps makes her rock steady, decent from height with full flap really slows her down and the nice thing there is no pitching up or down when the flaps are applied at a sensible speed, rolls are very positive, I could not fault her flying characteristics, nice one.

RE: KMP Stuka-build details
Hi friends !
Are there any pics of this Stuka with a 26cc engine installed on the cowl?
I'd like to get that beauty beast but I'd prefer gas engine.
Thanks

The cowl is pretty big and deep. If you can get a gas motor that has the carb either in front of the cylinder head or behind it, you'll have little issue fiting it.
This 40cc evolution is designed for 1.80-220 size planes and this stuka would fall in that size range:
http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...rodID=EVOE40GX
This one is half the price and is slightly bigger at a 50cc size, but it has the carb behind the cylinder head making it fit better in most airplane cowls:
http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...s_Engine_5.5HP
After you asked what gas motor might fit, well, when I was looking at motors to answer you, I decided to get one of the turnigy ones.
A club friend is using this motor in a Top Flite P-47 kit and it weighs 28 pounds and still flies like a bat out of hell on a 20x10 prop.
I bought one just to monkey around with it on a stand as it will be my first gas plane motor.

RE: KMP Stuka-build details
Yes a 26cc size would be enough for a Stuka easily. I listed the two I did because hobbycity doesnt have any 26cc size gas motors in stock that have the carb behind or in front of the cylinder. Also, the 40cc evolution says its about right for a 180-220 size plane(which the stuka is).
The XY 26cc one at hobbycity has the carb on the side which would poke through the side of the cowl pretty bad. Nice price of $159 tho.
Now this RCG 26cc on hobbycity has the carb in the back. Description says motor should be back in stock end of sept, but there is a -10 quantity already meaning there are 10 backorders currently in line. Id get this one if you dont mind waiting till it comes in stock. At $139, thats damn good.
http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...n_2.6HP/1.95kw
Horizon does have some evolution 26cc gas motors as well.....but...look at the price: ie $449
http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...rodID=EVOE26GX
Myself...id wait for the rcg and save $300 but its of course up to you.

If I go for gasser i'll give this engine a try:
It has rear carb and pitts style muffler, so it's pretty compact.
This model is the HH26N, that is also sold under many other brands.
What do you think?
If someone could find me a picture with a gasser on it

interesting engines you are all fitting, but why so big? mine is having an ancient OS BX108, with a home made pitts style exhaust, i expect it to fly on half throttle,

Looks like it'll work fine. Also looks very similar to the rcg one from Hobbycity. Im interested to see how it fits up.

RE: KMP Stuka-build details
Does anyone have a canopy that they would be willing to sell for the original sized Stuka? The wind blew mine over while I was breaking in the engine and busted mine up pretty bad.
