Thanks..I havent tried to run it ina while....Did you have to pay for the carb or did you have to send the engine in and did you get it from tbm? Didn't yours have a walbro? I also found on mine the reeds weren't aligned over the plate...

I ordered the carb from BP Hobbies. It's $38 shipped. I had to pay since I bought it new in box from a member here on RCU and not through a retailer. I guess that's the chance you take when you buy on the classifieds....

Mine has the same knock off Walbro that yours does. HI-LO or some crap like that.

Okay, new Info:

I balanced the plane at exactly 13.5 cm. See picture below.

Adding 50g to the tail and it moved CG 0.5 cm back to 13.5 cm.

Another thing; I set elevator max to 1 cm up with 20% expo. (The old max was 1.7 ; WAY to much)

I went of to the airfield at taxied out. And throttled up. The plane lifted the tail and I had the most wonderful takeoff.

I flied back and forth, testing throttling down, flying slow, flying fast. Some slow flypasts. All looked well.

Time for landing. The plane performed perfectly. I could throttle down without the nosedive, and greased it in for a perfect landing.

Sloooooow landing. Perfect! 8.5 kg is ok for that wing.

You wont believe how good it felt. I am so happy!
Im real curious how you got your plane to fly well at 135mm for a CG when i had mine at 128mm and it was super tail heavy and dropped the tail almost immedietely after lifting off. Which.... then i fought for a bit, but ended up losing and the plane rolled over into the ground.

Oh, which carb did you order and is it a direct fit replacement?

I ordered a direct replacement from BP hobbies.

http://www.bphobbies.com/view.asp?id...0&pid=E0405540

As a back up plan that may turn into a primary plan, I found a used Walbro WT311 carb at the local small engine shop. It's almost exactly the same as what is on these RCGF 26cc engines. I'm going to rebuild it and hopefully use it soon.

Looks like it's the original hi-lo carb in the picture....the guy at tbm gave me a walbro number but I cant remember what it was...If mine starts running bad again, I guess I will send it back to them for a warranty replacement...Did you check the reed valves?

You're correct, that reed valve is not the correct one for our engine. Maybe the picture is just incorrect.

You can match yourself a carb by using the chart that's in my thread on the Gas Engine forum. Any carb with a 9.5mm venturi, a choke, and two needles will work.

Today I had 3 flights on the Stuka, and a friend filmed the landing.

Its not 100% but to me any landing without damages is a good landing;

I have ordered a bomb from hobbyking and will start dive-bombing training.

Have had problems finding a sirene with the correct sound yet.

Good job kwik....What did you do with the original bomb? Here's what I did with my cockpit from vq..On the bottom, I epoxied some thin balsa sheet to stiffen the plastic..The choke servo is all the way in front of the cockpit. The throttle servo is a mini and it fits into the base under the pilot seat. The empty spot where there is velcro is where the battery will be...I made my pilot out of an esm bust..I cut his shoulders down and stuck him in an old gi joe outfit, stuffed the suit with foam, and stuck 2 arms in the sleeves...

Thank you, heritageman.

Nice work, Andrew!

Bomb in place;

Next, I will make a frame that stops the bomb from falling through the propeller, just like the real one.

It will be spring-loaded.

Looks great kwik! What material are you going to use for the frame? I made a non functional one and it was very difficult to keep it from getting damaged while transporting the plane.

I was planning on using some alu tubing I have here somewhere.

Mine will be transported on its wheels as you see on the picture, so the frame should be okay.

Looks good kwik...Do you have those dummy dive brakes on the wings? I was having issues with the plane wanting to climb all of the time..After scratching my head for a week, I decided to remove the dive brakes and now it flies just fine...There are two different angles of deflection depending on which way you install them. I had mine installed with the slanted edges of the 3 mounts twd the back of the wing...

so I went to the LHS that had a sale today to get my Stuka finally completed and I now have a quandary. I cant decide on servos! I know its not a speed bird or an aerobat but I don't want to have have under sized servos in it

I looked at the Hitec 5485HB and at 80 oz at 6 volts seems ok but I second guessed myself. Do I need bigger servos? What are you guys using?

thanks

sunshyne, those should be fine...I am using 2 hitec 645 for the flaps, 2 itec 475 for the ailerons, a 5645 on the elevator, 5625 on the rudder, and a hitec mini servo on the throttle...As you can tell, it's what I had laying around... Oops, almost forgot, an old OLD futaba 148 on the choke....

Did you put the dummy dive brakes on the wings? If so, did you mount the slanted part of the 3 braces twd the back or the front of the wing? I had mine twd the back, but it kept causing the plane to climb so I just took mine off..

Has anyone installed or planning to install a DLE 30cc engine in this plane? I’ve just received my Stuka B yesterday and I just happen to have a DLE 30cc laying around. I dry fitted and it fits perfect. Wonder if it’s too much power for it. If you have this engine installed, appreciated if you could shed some light on this.

I'm going to use a DLE 30 on mine. I ditched the crappy RCGF 26cc because it was unreliable and didn't have enough power to fly the plane very well. My plane is a bit heavier than most because of the mods I've done. It weighs in at 17lbs. I think the DLE should be a perfect match for this plane and allow you to use a more scale prop.

What muffler are you going to use? I'm thinking that a custom one is going to need to be made to fit inside the cowl.

Andrew, at the moment the Stuka does not have the dive brakes.

They were ripped off on its third landing (or so). There was no such extra lift effect when they were mounted on the win.
Unfortunately I dont remember any spesific direction, but I think it is important that ailerons are flush with a line parallell
to the underside of the wing.

No dummy brakes on mine sir

How do those servos perform? I plan on keeping my throttle up as I cruise around trying to keep up with the speed birds (P-51, P-47 etc)

My plan is to bomb them on the ground, and quickly land for a cup of coffee!

Andrew, I tested the Stuka yesterday with the dive-brakes on again. With the slanted edges towards the back of the wing.

This did not create a problem for me that couldnt be trimmed away..... Must be flap and / or ailerons angle versus wing?

Or maybe a combination?

Did a couple of dive bombing runs. The release mechanism works fine.
