Ghost, mate very sorry to hear about the shoulder and the model, model is a no brainer, just some work to get fixed but take care of the shoulder. As somebody who has had 3 shoulder operations, 2 of them complete reconstructions I can totally empathise with the pain you are going through.

Remember your adage: "Remember, Always look after the ORGANIC part of the model"

Thanks Peter, I forget that every now and then. I have had many ops over the years after a head on with a car while I was on a bike(30 years ago), that is the problem I am having now with the leg. The shoulder will heal just the fact that I can use it at the moment that gives me the S#*#$, especially now that the weather is great and I could be doing all the painting to finish the model. I got a lead on a couple more Byron jets yesterday. (NIB never started) F-86 not shore which one (D or H model) and a Mig-15, will have to check it out.

Cheers

Spent 12 hours in the car yesterday to pick up my daughter for the school hols. Won't be doing any modeling as I will be driving her around chasing horses. She is into show jumping. Have spoke to the owner of the other two Byron jets. He has all the goodies to go with them as well as 4 NIB KB 100 fan engines. Don't know if he will part with them yet, but I will keep talking to him as he is in his late 80's and his health is going south(his words).

Cheers

Two more mate?? Now who's starting an airforce?

I've slowed down on the F-16 this week as i've been letting the paint harden up a little before continuing. I have made the plug for the wingtip missiles and vac formed them. they are ready for paint so i should get that done tonight.

The VHVBEC arrived and i have to solder that onto the power leads from the ESC. they were great fun to solder[:@]. This week will be flat out for me so not sure how must time i will have to get the work done.

I have also had approval from the minister of finance to purchase the vinyl cutter next month after week get past some major bills so the spray stencils can then made inhouse! so i'll have to wait gfor that too.

thanks

dave

Hi Dave, it's looking good, would like to be working on mine but with one arm out of action as wll as driving my daughter around to horse riding I have not had time to scratch. I have been talking to the owner of the other two models and am trying to talk him out of them, but he does not want to loose the engines, I have told him that I dont want them anyway. Will just have to wait and see.

Cheers

well, if they one of them is an F-16, and it has retracts it doesn't need.....

The pylons came out heavier than i was hoping for. so not overly impressed by them.

As for the driving around, well, in my book it would beat being stuck at home not being able to do anything, even worse when a model is looking back at me. help to pass the time.

Speaking of passing the time. just got home to realise that i don't have house keys on my keyring. luckily for me i decided to take the laptop to work so im now in the backyard using the 'ol Wi-Fi to hlp pass the time till the wifey gets home

thanks

Hi. Nice looking aircrafts you got there!!!! I have a question for you, the inlet duct you had on a picture, do you know where to get?
I have started a little on my Byron F-16.

Spitfire, Byron never used an inlet duct on the F-16. If you have the retract setup you would not be able to get it in anyway. I think that the engine would get in the way also.

John, I don't know, I know that it was open because of the way the retracts and engine came out of the hole. I would like to know if anyone has done this?

Cheers

John, Turbines don't require the volume of air flow that DF's do. I think that you could temp close it in and do some thrust checks on the ground, mine is not at that stage yet and I will be running retracts as well so I will look at it when I get it all back together.

Cheers

Reading the variouis threads regarding the big hole in the bottom of byrons models is exactly as Ghost put it. it's because DF's need a greater volume of air to operate.

To add insult to injury, the byron fan require noticeably more air too. So by closing it up you might find that you might loss some static thrust.

If you were to convert it to another EDF, then maybe it might work. something like the DS-94, TF4000, etc are a little smaller but put out as much thrust if not more, but then we lose sight of the fundamental driver of this project, a cheap conversion.

Thanks

In the second photo of the front inlet, don't forget that the nose gear mount ect goes in there, and where you have the fan sitting you will have problems with mounting the retracts for the main gear, we are building them with orignal Byron gear, but converting over to electric as the fan engines are getting hard to get, as well as the expence of them. I have seen one of the byron F-16's with that fan setup before, but had it further back and had the access through the top of the aircraft.

I have tested to mount the original gearholder, the only problem i think of now is if i need a inlet duct or not. I will make geardoors and so.

You will need some type of inlet bell to smooth out the air flow around the outer lip of the inlet. You will also need full length ducting in the tailpipe.

Still not able to do anything yet. See the doctor again on Tuesday, more Xrays maybe a little good news as the shoulder feels heaps better than after the last tine at the same point in time. Still gives me heaps of time to surf the WWW looking for different stuff.

Cheers

Good to hear your feeling better ghost!

Well, i started working away again on the F-16 to get her read for the first flight. I made up the attach fittings for the sidewinder rails and painted them, and i also picked up the HD extensions from pete for the elevator servos.

thanks

I have been progressing along with the F-16, no vinyl cutter as yet but i have completed the ESC mount, which is taking advantage of the gun port for some cooling air, and i have almost finished making the battery tray.

Due to the CoG being so far forward, with the batteries installed, the will have to go in the spine of the model. so i have made up a cradle that will be epoxied just behind the canopy.

Thanks

dave

Dave, It's looking good. Seen the Doc, The Xrays show that my shoulder is repairing well. Doc said that I could start doing stuff with my arm again. I don't think rubbing back will be good for my shoulder at the momment but I will see how it goes. Might make up a test stand for the fan so I can run test on it to see what the best settings would be, and to check on temps under full power runs.

Cheers

Hey ghost,

that's great to hear that your making good progress on your recovery. it would be great to get these two models up in the air at the same time one day.

I hae been doing a little more work on mine. i have cleaned up the wiring that runs from the elevator servos and the motor wires up and have also installed the BEC.

I wil post pic's soon. i'm starting to run out of jobs that need to done before the maiden. just a little more cleaning up of the wiring, make up the velcro straps to hold the packs in place, and that's pretty much it. i'll be poping down to the LHS to get the wing attach bolts this week too.

I will not get the external paintwork completed in time as i am still about 2 weeks away from ordering the vinyl cutter so she will fly without markings.

Here is a video my wife took today while i was flying my Eze-Fan EDF trainer. she gets up a goes on 4s 2300mah li-po and a 74mm fan

http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=HvjBIeWGi7Q

Thanks

dave

P.S. dont now where the rough motor sound came from. it runs fne, so it must have happened during the compression of the vid
