I am all done with covering. During the covering of the fuselage I discovered a cool way to create panel lines before you cover, unfortunately I discovered this after the wing and tail feathers where completed
I first marked all the panel lines with a sharpie, then I used 1/16 stripping tape to define the panels. I decided to do most of the fuselage covering in individual panels, some where in larger pieces where it was easier. Both methods worked out great, man the wing would look great with this technique.

I am assembling the plane now. I have a fit problem with the belly pan. Since it is made of fiberglass, I was thinking of useing a heat gun to adjust the fit. Has anyone else tried this?

No, but I would think it may go good or really bad. I was going to make mine out of balsa, but went with the fiberglass, might want to make some templates of the belly before so if it does go bad you can make one out of balsa, good luck.
P.S. seams like many problems with this A R F, glade I turned it into a kit!

I am using the plastic belly vent scoop, I may paint it black or silver depending on if I want it to stand out or disappear.
I cut in some more venting holes where the belly scoop will sit!
More pics of panel lines.I am doing the black along the back starting at the cowl ending at the dorsal fin.

Has anyone recently purchased any of the rcskylite struts? If so, what was your delivery time? I have a set on order, and the status hasn't changed from "Awaiting Fulfillment" for almost a week. I know they're based out of Hong Kong, but I'm just wondering what sort of timeline I'm looking at (I'm anxious to get this bird out to the field...).
Thanks

I ordered my retracts from Horizon and a miss order from Tower at the same time as I did on my struts from rcsklite and my struts just got here a week after my local stuff, not bad!

That's good to hear. I'm hoping that maybe I'll get them sometime this week, but who knows?

Not to worry............I kept getting the "awaiting fulfillment" message and then all of a sudden they were here. They were also good at answering my emails inquiring about the struts.

RE: Top Flite P-47D Thunderbolt ARF .60-.91: Building & Mods
So I finished my Jug this morning. I came in dry without batteries at 10 lb. not sure what battery set up I will do yet, may do two 3300 6s 40c. They will weight roughly 2 lb so my total weight should be in the 12lb. range.
Question for those with the E-flight retracts. Do you put greas on the threads on the threaded rod that pulls the gear up or down? Seams like it would operate smoothly with a little greas on the threads. Overall I like the E - flight retracts and feel confidant that I won't have issues like one has with air systems.
I have to add 9 oz of weight to the noes to balance with only one battery so hopefully with two it will balance with out weight. I am doing detailing and weathering until I can get to the field this weekend for a test flight. I will post completed pics as soon as I can get to a PC.

[8D]I used some silicone Kyosho grease on the e-retract, applied with a pointed stick, but very little. Also my battery pack is a 6S Thunder Power 30 C 5000 mah only for propulsion, CG was OK with only 2 onces of lead holded below the motor cabane and a 5 cell 2.000 mah Sanyo Enelop battery for radio and retract, but I changed the steel tail pusrods for anothers of carbonfiber with metal ends to save some weigh and help to get a good CG. Final weigh on mine was 5.172 kg. [8D]

If you look closely at the picture on the box top, you will see the text on the left side of the fuselage ahead of the cockpit.

Does anybody have any recommendations for a full-body pilot? I don't really like the Century Jet option. Also, whay would be the correct height of a properly scaled piloit? I might look in a toy store.
Thanks in advance!

RE: Top Flite P-47D Thunderbolt ARF .60-.91: Building & Mods
I originally purchased the Century Jet 1/7 pilot, and he's a good fit, size-wise. That being said, I HATE the look and overall craftsmanship of it, and he's currently sitting on my bench, staring at my balefully. I then ordered an Aces of Iron 1/7 bust, but he seems too small overall, and not just because he's just a bust. I think a 10" action figure would fit this plane well, but good luck finding one of those - it seems like most of them are 12". I seem to recall seeing a 10" Tuskegee Airmen action figure somewhere, which might work out very well, but I can't remember where it was.
Good luck, and let us know what you end up with!

Ok so she is all done, balanced and charged up ready for this weekend.
Here is the internal pull - pull and the elevator linkage. It all worked out pretty good. I used a carbon fiber push rood for elevator.
I have learned to deflect the scale hinge lines when you glue them to their maximum position. That way when the glue dries your guarantied full movement. I first glue the hinge points into the elevator then after they have dried I glue the elevator into the stab. This has been the best method for me.
Here are some of the fuse details.
This is a completely fantasy build and not accurate for scale, all my panel lines and details are fly by the wire and not accurate, this is pretty much a test bead for future builds as I test new techniques and new ways to detail. I wanted the panel lines to be as subtle as possible and not to look to "Mylar pristine". I think it came out pretty good in that aspect. Some of you guys have done such great detail work, artists you are!

This is what I am doing with the gear doors. The cable clamps are too bulky to fit in the stock wheel well so I made my own out of some sheet tin.
I made up my own connector and feed it threw the tub for the retract rood.
My flap linkage, I set up half and full flaps on my radio.

Here are my guns. I cut the stock tubs and glued them in flush with the LE, then covered, cut the holes in the covering and then glued in new aluminum gun tubs.
I painted the cockpit and used some extra decals for gages, by no means is this scale, just looks good if you press your face to the glass and look in
Here is the gear extended with the gear doors attached with my method.
I mounted my receiver so I can easily plug the ailerons, flaps and gear in at the field during setup.

Final ready to fly weight was 12lb.
I would like to thank all those that have contributed to this thread, it really helped me a lot, and thanks to corsairjock for starting this thread.
I sanded the inter plane with 1500 grit sand paper to weather it and dull up the Mylar shine.
