Some pic’s of the progress so far. Fuel tank is mounted just slightly ahead of CG (will help with ground handling) see the marks on the wing saddle and the fuel tank. Rudder and Elevator servos installed on either side of the fuel tank. Also added scale MMG barrels.

I will be out of it for a few weeks, (months).

I have to pack all my stuff in the garage into a 35ft overseas container due to the a remodel that we are doing. New master bath above a new garage.
So the question is............ What do i get out of it??? Maybe some new toys. ??

Paladin, is it me, or are the guns a bit small??

RE: CMP BF109F BUILDING THREAD

Steve,

Thanks for the tips. I just bought my BF109 and I must say it is really a nice kit.

Would you recommend a clear coating to go over the decals? I'm wondering if this extra step would be advised.

Also, I'm also wondering why CMP didn't design the spinner to work with a three-blade prop. That would have been more realistic, from a scale standpoint. So far, I can't find anyone who makes this type of spinner for a three-blade prop. Do you think it would be worth modifying this one, assuming I could balance it to work with a 3-blade prop?

Sincerely,

Bert

RE: CMP BF109F BUILDING THREAD

Steve, I thought the barrel would be bigger also but the MG was a derivative of the MG34 firing 8mm mouser ammo (the me109F still shot the 7.97mm projectile), I have a nazi mousers (shoots same ammo) so I measured the barrel, in fact I have the flash hider and I measured that and this is the size it lead me to. I’ve seen MG34’s and the barrel business end visually is the same as the mouser. Now I did not include the barrel shroud (protects people from getting burned by a hot barrel) because people will not be around the barrel on the plane while it is hot. I have one of those 1/6 MG34’s from 21st century toys and its barrel is same size but the flash hider is way oversize ( I think because of min. die cast thickness.

The other thing I noticed was that the end of the MG trough is open but I could not model that here because of the shap

If I got something wrong let me know.

Joe.

RE: CMP BF109F BUILDING THREAD

Hey Joe

Its not if its wrong or right as much as if it looks right. Sometimes things don't translate as well in miniature.

vmiburt

I did not clear my decals. I just wipe the model down if i spill raw fuel on a decal.

The three blade system is not good for the average arf modeler. The 3 blade system requires the correct blades and power. The scratch builder guy will of course change anything he does not like. Imagine if they provided a 3 blade spinner, what would one do. Plus prop strikes would cost even more. Try Dave platt or Fliteskin for blank 109 spinners that you can cut as needed They are pretty close to the right size.

But its possible.

Found a pic of my flying 3 blade scale system. The spinner is composite and the scale blades are carbon. The spinner is around 3mm too big for the CMP 109. I don't have a power plant to turn my 3 blade system well yet. Maybe gear down electric??

Steve,

Thank you so much! I'll try those other places. A good friend of mine suggested I have a "display" 3-blade prop and use a 2-blad prop for show. That might be a good compromise.

Hot Rod Todd,

Where did you find your new decals (German cross)? I would like to do the same thing. I feel they do not have the same look as the original BF109.

Thanks,

Bert

Major decals .60 size. They are real close to the correct size. You can get them at Tower Hobbies or order from about any hobby shop.

I have not read the entire thread but can you put a gasser on this baby

Hot Rod Todd 03-25-2009 07:17 AM

RE: CMP BF109F BUILDING THREAD

The BF109 is not a real good match for a gasser. It is already fairly heavy and needs no nose weight. With my OS 1.60 mounted in the nose I had to put the battery pack back in the rear to balance. I'm sure it is possible but you would have to use the lightest engine you could find that has enough power. I don't recall anyone brave enough to try it yet.

The CMP 80" Zero is a much better match for a gas engine.

Hi All

For additional flight info, another youtube flight has been posted by someone else. Someone who can actually land his way better than me. Search cmp 109 for vid.

My shop is still shut down.

thanks Todd. I have been looking at this plane for a while but I have been holding off as I don't need another plane at this time, put I don't have anymore room in the shop to fit anymore without the wife have a fit. Hope Nitro lower the price in the next few month. If so I couldn't resist.

Hey Guys,

I am new to this thread and I must say I have spent the last two days, and most nights reading through it. I am thinking about buying this kit to make it my first semi scale Arf project and I appreciate all of the info.

I thank you guys for doing the pricing research and posting it on this thread. I almost pulled the trigger on the nitroplanes website until I saw the post for the Hobby King site for $199.00 SteveExtra260 - Thanks! You just saved me $80.00

Keep up the good work.

Regards,

Cesar

well, that little voice in my head has been whispering that if i leave the engine mount the way it is i'll be working on it all summer. so here is where i am. I put 1/2x3/8 maple mounts in place by putting holes in anular ring and firewall. epoxy them to the existing wood, that i have not previously removed. then i will epoxy a marine ply plate over the entire assembly. then put doublers around the holes in the firewall, again marine ply.

First things first! I just completed my pilot for my CMP BF109F.

I bought this pilot from Aces of Iron. I highly recommended them. Their web site includes tips on how to paint your pilot:

Here are two photos of my completed pilot.

Yes, I was warned. However I started using the engine mounts provided.
During engine running tests these anti vibrating mount proved to be counterproductive. My engine was shaking violently. The engine I use is the OS 120 AX. It resulted in tearing of the rubber dampers. They tearing developed where the holes were.
I now placed two 2mm thick aluminium strips. See the attached picture. Together with a washer of .5mm under each of the 4 engine holes I have the good hight for the engine. So now I’m trying the solid mount of the engine. I’ll let you know how this will hold. I use no additional strengthening in the engine bay.

Eric Schumacher, Netherlands
