Default Redcat Lightning

Hi All,

I am new to the nitro world. I purchased a Redcat Lightning about a month ago, and wondered if it could be used as a dirt oval car? I have asked on Facebook pages, but just get..."you can't do that, they break". Well, it would be nice to know what breaks, and are these parts ungradeable? I have a Slash and a Team Losi electric montster truck for the real aggressive offroad stuff, but would like to use my Lightning for 1/10 oval racing. Can someone please elaborate a little more on this?

Thanks<br type="_moz" />

No its an on road car. Sits to low to the ground you will get alot of bottom drag and stuck if you run it on dirt.

But can't you change shocks, and mounts, and put off road tires and wheels on it to raise it enough to run?

larger tires will raise the ride hight. you can raise the suspension alittle, but not much before the dogbones will want to bind.

im not that familliar with how a dirt oval car is setup. But i figure the tires are the main part.

i had the electric lightening and it was pretty tough.

i say go for it. no one will know if the car will work well in that form unless they have done it.

i took a regular traxxas stampede and turned it into a 1/5 scale RC. many didnt think it would turn out well. but it did.

post pics of the kinda car you wanna turn it into.

Heck anything is worth a try. Lets say you get the larger tires and increase the height I can not see it performing well at all there is not much room to adjust your camber and toe at all. So I would think that you can not have +3 and -3 camber wich would mean alot of sliding in your turns. Hard for the car to get good traction.

dirt oval cars are basically an on road car with some more aggressive treads, dirt oval is smooth, not rough so ride height is not an issue, problem may be finding a 1/10 oval body, most are 1/9.

I was racking my brain trying to figure out why the folks on the facebook group kept saying I couldn't use my car on a dirt oval because ground clearence isn't as much of an issue on a dirt oval as it is on a short course track. As for the bodies, I will just have to make it work..

they WILL fit on. but they are a bit bigger and im not certain that they wont touch the chassis when you steer.

you might have to mod the front end a bit. or lengthen the front a-arms, or maybe use the traxxas thicker plastic hexs(the gray ones) to move the wheel further out.

What other brand parts will fit the lightning exp? And are the lightning ep drift and epx pro the same parts just with a different motor? Are the epx and drift parts interchangeable?

id have to check on the drift and epx pro versions. i know the epx pro had metal diff gears, im not certain the drift version does.

other than that, its just the tires and motor/esc

you can use just about any brand body, any brand wheel(that is 12mm hex)
you can use other shocks of the same length.
