This will probably be the last project I do for a while. I couldn't make my mind up if I wanted a nitro crawler or just a high torque monster truck.
The tranny gear ratio is 12:1
I'm not looking for speed on this one. I had to mount the engine up front and backwards to rotate the correct way with using only one counter gear. If I used two counter gears, the ratio would be something like 24:1 and that would be slow enough for a crawler.
I am hoping to get this one done before x-mas.
Enjoy the pics!

While you've already done most of the engine mounting work - do you reckon you could spin the counter gear around and move the engine forward an inch and a half? Then you can make the cooling head stick out the 'hood' of the bodyshell
I've always wanted to do that but I've mostly moved to electric stuff now.
You'll need to work around the steering somehow but I reckon you would manage.

As of now, I don't have much room to play around for steering. I may have to make a linkage and put the servo on the other side of the tranny. And then there is the linkage for the throttle and brake.......hmmmmm....
I'm sure I will find a way to make it all work.
Thanks man.

I think after this one, I will take a break(and enjoy the ones I have done) and look into some 1/10 scale parts or some 1/8 scale parts. I do have a spare SH12 engine sitting on a shelf collecting dust.

You could always use a Y-cable and twin servos for any of those functions. e.g. one servo per wheel for steering, and perhaps a mini-servo for the throttle and a regular one for the brake or something. Then the linkages are a piece of cake.

OK, here is a follow-up of the project:
I got the front steering assembly in place and I made a set of home-made wheel extensions to get me by while my buddy Rob(@ wheelextensions.com) makes me a custom set for these tremor's axles.

whoa those are some massive extensions - surely they'd stress the carrier assembly too much? Actually the final photo doesn't look too bad so maybe they'll be ok

hey jpilkinton. i have an idea. i think it will work and if it does than yeah it could be a suggestion for hsp for a next vehicle. ok so on ur rock crawler or some other vehicle try getting some oil filled shocks to put on instead of upper liks on the trucks suspension. i think its a good idea because if they are soft/firm they could definitly give more independance on the wheels. just concept ive been thinkin. if ur gowin up a rock it could bend up and grab more traction or if its a truck if could grab dirt better when it is turning or goin up sumthin
if u can, on ur next model try it, i know u normaly do work on 1/16 but if u could try to build a 1/10 or 1/8 truck with this suspension design. hope this works out and could u pm me or sumthin to give me fee back if it will work

OK here's a video of me starting it up and letting it run a fulle tank of fuel:
I just have to make some final adjustments and it will be done.
