RE: Typhoon 2000 (TEMPEST) modifications thread

You can use 3M contact cement or the like. You cut the former templates from the plans and use the cement (lightly!) tack the cut out pieces of paper to a sheet of whatever-sized balsa you need. I...

RE: Typhoon 2000 (TEMPEST) modifications thread

MTK, I've seen guys use tape, and its a good idea...but I don't care much at all about the glue on my finger. After doing a skin for a wing the glue has smoothed itself out and makes a nice spatula...

RE: Typhoon 2000 (TEMPEST) modifications thread

It worked out quite well, I'm happy with the results.

Theres a very small gap in the leading edge, I'm not too concerned about it since I thought it'd be worse. Other then that, all the ribs...

RE: Typhoon 2000 (TEMPEST) modifications thread

Well Mike, I got the rib installed right and have some photos to post...

I'm going to have a lot of sanding to do on that leading edge. I think next time I'll put the cap strip on, then sheet,...

RE: 90 sized pattern plane

A friend just bought the excelleron at the $239 price and boy is it a beautiful plane. Haven't seen it fly, but I can attest to the build/covering quality. They've done a great job with that one.

RE: Typhoon 2000 (TEMPEST) modifications thread

Thanks Mike. I hadn't seen it mentioned before and figured there must be something dumb about it (no offense to the designer). I was sanding W-4 out and the top part by the spar broke on its own...

RE: Typhoon 2000 (TEMPEST) modifications thread

Tonight I ran into my first frustration and large error. Without thinking I cut all the aileron ribs from the wing panel ribs before starting. UGH. I did learn some things I think might be helpful...

RE: Typhoon 2000 (TEMPEST) modifications thread

Bite away my friend! I do have a Tai Ji that I have flown ~4 times, and it'll get more time before this bad boy is in the air...this is my second build. My first build was a PT-40 kit (also...

RE: Typhoon 2000 (TEMPEST) modifications thread

I would also be interested in these parts, but I won't have the fundage for ~2 wks. If that won't work out, cool...I'll work around it

I've been coerced by Bokuda to post a link to my...

RE: What do you say when this happens????

blademan7065 knows just what he's talking about...as do the others here that have the mantra 'pay it forward.' Its no joke! I was at the lucky end of a similar situation (w/blademan7065 ;-). I...

RE: Real Flight G3!

I try to take that into consideration, but the price point is still too high imo. That's all I was saying.

RE: Real Flight G3!

I agree. $299 list, $200 sale...whatever it is, it's rediculous. There's plenty of games out there with far superior graphics and physics engines (Doom3, Unreal 2k4, etc). Those games always start...

RE: Icepoint build up.

Glenn,

When are you going to post that pic of all the pattern planes at the field? I dunno, might be a nice comparison photo of the various planes.

RE: Trainers...what are they good for?

I just have to drop my $0.02 here. I have also found the same with my trainer. People at my field said I outgrew that trainer before I even had my first flight with it. I spent a lot of time on...

RE: GreatPlanes PT-40 construction diary. Any tips/comments welcome!

Right, I posted on the other thread how I solved it. I ended up mounting the needle on the cheek of the fuse. It was a very tight fit, I could barely get to the muffler screws and the engine mount...

RE: GreatPlanes PT-40 construction diary. Any tips/comments welcome!

It looks to me like you used the lower dihedral, and let me say, you're going to be happy you did. I did the larger of the two, and it's a freakin bear to do anything over circles in the air...sure...

RE: GreatPlanes PT-40 construction diary. Any tips/comments welcome!

Fuel proofing can be done with any epoxy (10 minute or so) and thinned out with some denatured alcohol. I'm sure you've got epoxy, and the denatured alcohol you can get at any hardware store, or...

RE: Cowl for SS40, rebuild nose

Man, sorry to hear about your plane...that does look like a nasty crash there [:o] Yes, I didn't really want a radial cowl on there, I was hoping another GP plane would have a cowl almost perfect...

Cowl for SS40, rebuild nose

I recently recieved, quite generously, a Super Sportster 40 from a club friend. The kit was built very heavy, including what feels like it could be 1lb of lead under the engine mount. I have a os...

That's one thing I'm lucky about, a supportive wife. She's always supportive of the hobbies I do. I also own a 90g planted aquarium ;-) That's quite a hobby, but the pace is a bit slow for me. ...

First and Second Flights

So this is going to be a story post I guess. The other day I had to get my inspection done and the dealer is right near my local field. I haven't finished my plane yet, the radio is supposed to be...
