Finished the teardown, painted the block, and reassembled.

In case anyone is interested:

Duplicolor Engine Paint. Baked at 250 degrees for ~ 1 hour. Let cool. Enjoy!

RE: Pilot6 training help, please.

Bill,

I've asked PETA to investiagate your actions ...

You know, People Enjoying Training Animals.

I think they want to work with you to do a story for Animal Planet.

RE: MDS 40 teardown question

Flyboy,

Well, that was almost too easy. All the parts came out easily once the liner slid out. And the front bearing was easily removed using a wooden dowel to tap it out. Looks like the rear...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

VACE,

The 45's are hard to find parts for. If you give up, I'd be happy to buy yours ...

:D

Seriosuly though, I'm contacting folks in the UK now -- seems they still have them. I need...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Thanks to all for the suggestions on pullers -- and maybe I need to visit a few more auto parts stores. The bearing separator is a good idea, in combination with the puller.

If all else fails...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Bill,

In a post awile back, you mentioned that you pull the valve covers, and oil prior to flying. I know you use Dexron ATF for the crankcase after flying, but how about the valve train?

Jim,

Yes, mine is a MKII, but sounds like there is still hope to find parts. Thanks to everyone for all the leads, and names of people to check with for parts. Guess I'll hold off strapping it...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

I just searched on Google, and found this site. If you call up an engine (categories for singles, twins, radials), it shows the parts explosion. When you mouse over the reference, it gives the "SAI"...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

I called Horizon yesterday to see if they could track down any parts for a 45MKII. (I had only found one part on my own -- a piston pin, searching using "FA45". Searching "SAI45" did find the piston...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Dave, Bill:

The 45 MKII is a different beast, and does not take the intake from the 50, or 56. I bought an intake a few weeks ago from an LHS, since it was for the 50, and I thought I'd found...
