RE: HALF SCALE DH 2

At $350 the BUSA 1/3 Pup kit is a bargain. So, if you can even use 75% of it, it's well worth it. As you said, you'd be shortening the longerons, throwing out some of the wing ribs, and moving few...

RE: HALF SCALE DH 2

So how much of the Pup kit do you imagine you'll be able to use? Seems to me you'd do so much "bashing" that there wouldn't be much left over. BTW, the engine/prop combo looks great. Is that the...

RE: HALF SCALE DH 2

But then it only has to turn it at about 1,500rpm. But you may be right. I don't know anything about the engineering realities. I'm just suggesting that, if it were me, I'd be looking for a way to...

RE: HALF SCALE DH 2

I'd say go with whatever lets you turn a scale size (four bladed?) prop.

RE: HALF SCALE DH 2

If it's about thrilling the crowd (and, honestly, what's a 1/2 scale model about, if not that?) then the "Flying Dutchman" idea sounds like a hoot! But then you'd have to go all out on the...

RE: HALF SCALE DH 2

Ah, if only that were the way it worked for everyone. But, nevermind, we're all eager to watch this one take shape! [8D]

RE: HALF SCALE DH 2

I can only stand in awe at flying a model bigger than my van! :D But man oh man what a "model" that would be, if had the detail of TFOKKER's EV!

RE: HALF SCALE DH 2

I guess even 1:1 replicas can be "non-scale" in hundreds of ways. My own view (unsurprising) is that if one is going to bother to build big, the only reason is to build scale. Big is, to my mind,...

RE: HALF SCALE DH 2

Those turnbuckles looks sweet. But then at 1/2 scale there just aren't any excuses any more! As for my 1/4 scale model, I was thinking of doing it as a rubber-powered free-flight. ;)

RE: HALF SCALE DH 2

I guess I can go ahead and do that 1/4 scale model now! :D

RE: HALF SCALE DH 2

I thought John did the DH1a plans. Did he also do some DH2 plans?

RE: HALF SCALE DH 2

RE: HALF SCALE DH 2

Don't worry, soon enough it'll be 3/4 scale! ;) I say, if you want bigger models, model bigger airplanes! :D Like a 1/3 scale FE2b!
