Default Please help.

Hello my name is David. Currently I live on a lake and am quite happy. Own a few boats myself but I want a toy to play with every now and then. A remote control boat I thought would be perfect. Although I just didnt know what to work with, not knowing anything of RC cars or boats for that matter I found this webiste/forums. And was hope'n you guys could help me out some. I was looking at this website: http://www.hobbytron.com/RCElectricBoats-ss2.html for boats I just didnt know what to look for there were 380 engines and 550 engines.

I want something fast and affordable. Price range 70-140.
I am a speed man. So FAST and UPGRADABLE are key things.

Thanks for your help.

I would stay away from the no names on that page. Go for something by AquaCraft or Traxxas. If price is an issue then get one used off EBAY. One of the nicer boats out there is the AquaCraft super vee 27". It's one of the fastest out of the box and you'll get a lot more entertainment for your $.

Wamphyrii has got it right. Those are the best 3 choices I can think of also and out of those three the best choice would obviously be the Super Vee, if you can stretch your budget and wait till they are released. Its the first brushless RTR to hit the market. There are alot of us seasoned guys waiting for it. Don't be scared of the speed if you have a little self control you can just keep yourself from going WOT (wide open throttle) till you get used to it.
The Hammer is the next best choice and is in your price range. Check the market place on this web site and you can even find one cheaper, there is a nice guy that has a few for sale right now. The Hammer is also upgradeable and there is a very long thread on here about it and all of the owners are happy with it. It is also very upgradeable. But it will never be as nice as a boat as the Super Vee.

PS. if you want to keep up with a thread the easy way, just click the subscribe button at the top right of this page and you will get an email everytime someone post on here.

Is the Hammer fast? What is it compared to the SuperVee 27? Because if the Hammer is easy/cheap to upgrade and make it faster I might just go with that.

The Super Vee is 38mph right out of the box due to Brushless motors. Brushless is a recent advance in electric DC motors that are much more efficient on power and run times. The brushed motors can't even compare. The Hammer EP is a great boat to get started with and it's relatively speedy right out of the box. MPH on water is much different than on land and this boat is fun. If you are looking to get into the hobby and actually learn more about the upgrade process' and options in rc boating then this is a great starter. I just bought one for a friend who's new to the hobby and he loves it. The Hammer runs probbably about half the speed if not slightly less than the Super Vee but it still has quite a bit of run time and speed to go around. I'd go with the Hammer to start and if you like it. upgrade and mod it till you get it as fast as possible. In the process you'll learn a ton of things that will help you when and if you decide to go with a new more expensive boat.

The Hammer is a good starter boat and can be upgraded to go faster. But if you are trying to make it go as fast as the Super Vee then you are talking about some serious work and money. If you want something you can start out with and learn about major upgrading then the Hammer is the one to learn on. If you want something that is very fast right out of the box and with small simple upgrades you can tweak and increase performance then the Super Vee is the one. Just remember the Super Vee is faster than your average beginner boat. Ask yourself if you have the selfcontrol to keep your finger off the trhottle till you get used to it.
