Todays update:
I have finally got my 3600mAh NiMH pack and charger.
I went to the lake today with 3 motors and 5 props and a good set of tools. Given that I would be here for a while I also packed a big hot-cup of coffee and my fags.
Well it was not to be !!
After all the motor and prop changes and strut adjustments it would still not do what I had a vision of……. That is a bloody great rooster tail and some good speed.
It was very close to me binning the boat but I now have a new plan.
I will air-power it!!
I had my weird stabilized monohull there and with the 550 and a 7x5 prop it has more power than the hull speed needs………..lightbulb comes on.
This boat has more power and the rigger has not enough.
I will now fit a mast to fit the air-screw and will have a play with that.
Given the torque of the air motor I will widen the sponson gap and do away with the turn fin.
This will be an experiment so I am open minded as how it will pan out.
I’ll be back with the results.

good luck with the conversion
air prop riggers can be REAL quick as some of the people on RCAW have found out! all be it nitro powered but up in the 50mph range!
i did try a quick depron style one but made a measuring mistake- battery would'nt fit in properly DOH!! so couldnt water tight it!! lol
i think i'll have another go at some point
im gonna stick at my rigger though- finally got it up on plane -i had the strut far to shallow and also i fitted some rear sponsens to get the back up quicker
modded the battery cover to take my bigger lipo and ready to go and try it out!
have you got any pics of b4 you mod it to air prop? and then after??

Todays update:
o.k so I decided to go for air power as the water screw was not doing itd thing.
The air screw did not either.
Here are my final findings on this project.
I believe the design to be good.
My model building skills have a long way to go
Solid shaft and uni drive is not the go as there is not enough room for adjustment
Car motors on airplane esc’s are not compatible
I will revisit the rigger idea again, just not now as I have other boats to play with.
I am very happy that I have learnt so much from this project.

a 550 and a sub-c pack on a boat isnt gonna go fast, it might go 15-18 if your lucky. i would have stuck with the rigger and kept tryinig

I appreciate all the input that has taught me so much regarding FE boats.
As I said before, I believe the design to be solid but my build skills need work.
I built it too heavy and using a solid shaft with uni does not allow for enough adjustment.
The 550 on a 6-cell pack absolutly rocks in my small mono but for a rigger is not enough.
I am so glad that I learnt so much yet felt sad that I was not able to get it to rock as I had visions of.
I currently have my mono running well and the bigger cat is having difficulty staying on the water with its current set-up.[X(]
I WILL build another rigger.................one day !!
