Default SUPERVEE DRIVESHAFT HELP!

Greetings!

After much anticipation, I was able to run my new SV brushless. I was about 3 exciting minutes into the maiden voyage, doing figure 8s, and the boat hit its wake. The boat stopped accelerating, and when brought back to shore, the propeller was missing...infact, the whole drive shaft was gone! The boat was filled with water.

I dried everything out, and here I am!

What parts do I need to fix it. Since I never took out the drive shaft, how do I re-assemble them?

Would this be under warrantee? Is it worth a warrantee claim? And has anyone taken advantage of the warrantee?

I have a neighborhood race on Labor Day, so time is of the essence.

I am very excited with the boat. The first three minutes were incredible! This thing is FAST!

Thanks again,
Jason

Sounds like your coupler was loose. You lost your prop, flex shaft, drive dog and maybe your bushing. There's a brass bushing that slides in and out of the strut/stinger on the back. It has horizontal holes in it for passing/holding grease (it may still be there). You can order all new stuff from OSE (off shore electric). I personally wouldn't try to claim warantee. For one thing this is a part you should remove after every session on the water to lube so you should be responsile for how tight it is. (1, 10mm wrench, 1, 12mm wrench. I ran mine w/o servicing it the first time so I'm not throwing stones. The second reason is you'll never be up and running in two weeks if you go the warantee route. http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/products.php?cat=52. Also drip some 3n1 oil in your motor bearing as they probaby got wet (it'll be ok)

Unfortunately it looks like some stuff is out of stock at OSE but they carry all the driveline parts you need. You might want to call and see when they will have them in.

Good luck and welcome to the sickness!

Thanks for the prompt reply...

Would this be all I require? I searched towerhobbies as OSE is out of stock.

And as for prop suggestion? I lost that too! I am running 2C4500 lipos?

Thanks again,
Jason

Yea, looks like tower has everything you need too. Make sure you get a nut for the prop. I'd recomend you get a CF45 and 48 props for now. Better than stock in many ways. Then start thinking 440/3 and 642. Both BeCu. Need balanced sharpened and polished. The CF props might need brushed up w/ some fine sandpaper but are otherwise ready to go.

Looks like the shaft comes with a nut. You will need the drive dog too, it also comes with the nut.

You will need the bushing if it fell out too.

Thanks again,

Should I think ahead and buy two of everything?

Any links for the props?

I had the same issue, but my driveshaft broke in half. Look at the coupler and see if any of the shaft remains. If not, make sure that you still have the teflon tube liner (.150 size) aht the brass bushing on the strut end of the tube (it slides into the brass tube), as well as a new shaft, drive dog, prop nut,a nd shaft grease. if you still have a broken bit of the driveshaft attached, you'll need the shaft, the teflon tube liner, shaft grease, possibly the bushing, a drive dog, prop nut, and prop. It's a few hours to get everything replaced. I replaced all of my drive hardware a week ago.

So all was replaced, and LOST again! I was about 90 seconds into the new run, and same scenario...Lost the drive shaft, prop, et al!

Is it possible I hit something under the surface of the pond I run in? It hasnt rained this month, and the water is very low?

I did use nailpolish on the threads, thinking the prop might have loosened...This was not the case?

The 10mm nut on the motor end of the driveshaft is still very secure, about 1mm-2mm from the 12mm nut on the motor.

Any other suggestions?

Jason

PS I should have used a plastic prop for the new run, instead of the BeCu $20 prop. Atleast I purchased two of everything!

I'm stumped. Maybe a defective coupler? If the coupler is grasping the flexshaft nothing should go anywhere. I would have never recomended you get two of everything. Glad you did, sorry it was necessary. Re assemble with new parts to RTR condition. Give the prop a good tug in a twisting motion.

Maybe you hit the old flex shaft!
