.32 Os Engine vs .32 Dynamite Engine

But if he dont race then go with the.28's?? Thats if he wants?? But for the price and money the O.S .21 turbo marine motor would Hull A**! Thats if he races? If not the STS marine.28 the last time I'd looked was 130.00.

Hi All,
Ok maybe I missed something here, what type of boat is this engine going in? If it is a cat, I have never seen a .21 cat run in district 4 ( make sure the district you plan on racing in has the class you want to race available). If it is a mono .21 or .45 are your choices, anything in between these sizes will race with the .45's. If you are modding a RTR to race why spend the money on a cheap upgrade engine, and if you are spending money on a good engine why waste it on a RTR boat (if your going to spend $300+ on an engine, it would be a waste to put it in an RTR). Sorry if I did see what boat this is going in. As far as an STS .28 has anyone here ever tried that engine, if so I'm not really sure I have ever seen a post saying any pros or cons about it?

Hey Paul, I have two choices as to what hull i would put one into. either my Miss Vegas, or my shockwave 36, my original thread was compairing OS vs Dynamite with the engine specs and this thread evolved into what is the better engine to replace the .32. I dont know what i can run, i dont belong to a a club yet. So really its about what will work for me and what would be the best choice if i do want to race.
Paul why would you think it would be a waste to put an engine of greater caliber into a RTR boat? do you think it would be more practical to build a hull from scratch for it? and if so What woudl you recommend?

I've seen .21 powered cats raced in B hydro here in D12. Were they competitive? Definitely not when the riggers are running right. Can they come home with some wood? Sure, if they finish all their heats and enough of the riggers don't.
I think Paul's point is that spending $300+ on a $300 boat is probably overkill. CMB, Novarossi, MAC, and the OS VZ-M engines are all designed for racing. Because of this they are harder to setup and are less forgiving of abuse (intentional or unintentional). To run one well and have it last, you need to have your "stuff" together. Dropping down a price point, to the now discontinued OS .21 RG-M or the side exhaust OPS .21 will put you at a more reasonable price point and in an engine that still runs pretty well. If you decide to race, you're still in the B class (.21) for IMPBA. And then dropping down one more price point, you can go with one of the .28s, .32s, or whatever, but with the caveat that's already been mentioned, they aren't at all competitive in the classes they would be put in...
Moving on to boats. If you're going to invest in a top of the line engine, why not put it in a boat that's capable of handling the power and will be competitive if you decide to race? You could build something yourself, the Wild thing mono is a good first build and is competitive in B Mono. Plans are available from R/C Boat Modeler. If you want to go with a pre-built hull, there are many choices out there for monos, sport hydros, and tunnels. These are usually fiberglass hulls to which you would install the necessary hardware and do your own painting. There are also a few wood kits out there such as Brian Blazer's Whiplash sport hydro.

Great points Piper chuck, and i whole heartedly agree. i know people are going to say " you have the cart before the horse" here, but what i am thinking is if i do drop a race engine into one of my existing hulls then i have the engine already, already broken in, until i get bored with what i have or have an accident and have to get a new hull, then put that engine into a race hull. From what i gather i can drop a .21 engine into my shockwave 36, at least get my feet wet with racing. I also have 7.5 Tunnel and a 7.5 Deep vee.... to throw a wrench into that gear work as well I could just say forget doing anything with the shockwave and just race those to boats.... See that would probibly be more logical, but whats the fun in that LOL.

I don't believe a stock 45 would do it.
would be looking into .67 or higher for Nitro.
Zen 260 stock, should be able to do top 40's maybe 50.
What do you think guy's (and Girls)

Please, do correct me if I'm out to lunch.

Thanks for the info dan, I ordered this boat and wanted to run it so i took all of my tc31 stuf and put it in this hull, NOT EVEN CLOSE to what this hull needs, so here we go, I really didnt want to go with gas but its looking like that might be the cheaper way out. some of the nitro 67 90 are looking to be in the 400-600 dollar range. I think I can get a zenoh g26 for around 250, what would you do, if the sky was the limit, and what would you do if you were on a budget

On a budget I run my .12 riggers. No limit I would be running a .90 or 1.01 but fuel for those engines will kill me.......................lol
Like piper chuck mentioned $300 for an engine in a boat that isn't designed to go that fast. I really don't think you will get a shockwave to be competitive with the .21 race boats. I am under the impression the shockwave likes to chine, if this is the case ya really need to work with that. The Miss Vegas has had some luck putting a .21 in and racing, even racing with an .18 they have luck too. The thing you need to remember you don't have to be fastest to win or place just finish your heats, my races I am happy if I finish and don't hit nothing (as far as I am concerned i win just doing that). Most important is to have fun, thats what this is all about for me.

js,
for your 41" Mono and sky was the limit, a Zen 260 Fully Modded.
on a budget, a stock Zen 260. later on you can get a better carb etc.etc..

thanks for the info guys, here are some pics of this hull with all the tc 31 stuff. the hull came with body pins for the hatch, so i changed them out for some valve stems and som piston looking valve stem caps, you can also get the ones at autozone that flash[X(]

The hatch on that boat came with the scoop?
if so..
think you could measure the hatch, width and Length please
i've got a Delta Force 33 hull, and would like to add a scoop or buy a different hatch

Or the "C" class but lotza luck finding one of those except at the Internat's.
Chuck hit it as these are considered SPORT engines. The Dynamite does OK though for being choked at both ends, a small carb and a restricted header.Exaggerating HP and RPM numbers is nothing new. I now take those with a grain of salt. For a wqhile you couldn't find the numbers on the Dynamite's but I wish that every engine manufacturer would show us some Dyno results on their engines including everything right down to the pipe and length plus what fuel with nitro percentage.
Note that they also state practical RPM range, not that they will actually hit it.
At one time it really got deep when Traxxas advertised their .15 as being able to hit 50, 000 RPM yet people were pulling tohse engines out and replacing them with other aftermarket mills.
