Fastech
I just purchased a formula fastech 26, and it is about halfway through break in, and whenever i get it going in the water it will go probably 25-50 feet out and stall, and if i touch the throttle at all it stalls. Any recommendations?

Yes a new engine can get you scratching your head. your prop needs 215 or small until you get a good run in. I bench start my engine several times Very rich run it about 2 min ,let cool I get oil inside my pipe, drain off after run, lean some every start, you will feel good response with your radio ,run 2-3 tanks lean out every tank by 1/4 turn on your main needle

RE: Fastech
i bought one last year, had the same problem, amongst others.what i did was leaned out the high speed about 1/8 of a turn and it helped.new motors are quite finicky, gotta play with them until they are fully broken in.when they do run well, they are a blast.great handling boat.i liked mine so much i bought another one.cant wait til it warms up here, still too cold to run them.good luck with it.

So I've so far finally had a good time with this boat. Just now having some trouble with getting good needle settings. Its been about 70 degrees out lately. Anyone have some good needle settings, the high speed, low speed, and idle. The manual was great for breaking it in, but doesn't help much for after break in. This has the .15s dynamite motor in it.

RE: Fastech
there is no magic carb setting you need start with factory settings will be RICH and lean the carb usung 1/8 turns until the engine responds well a little side note you want it to be RICH on the dock as it will lean out some when under load when you get a good tune one the HSN then adjust the LSN till you get a good transition from idle to WOT once you get the LSN set you shouldent have to mess with it anymore and just adjust HSN from run to run depending on weather conditions ie. temp and humidity this will take some time to do and can be a PITA but once you get it set the boat will be a blast

RE: Fastech
i totally agree with rcguy.temp and humidity have an effect on carb settings for nitro engines.i myself enjoy the tuning aspect of the engine,as i get a real kick out of it.to me,its the only way to learn is by trying new ideas to make the boat perform better.keep us up to date on how you progress.im still waiting to run mine(if it ever warms up).

AB, I have an idea where you got your advice at about breaking in an engine and it's a BAD idea! The only way to properly break in an engine is to run it on the water where it will get the proper load on the engine which you aren't going to get on the bench.
What fuel you plan on using in any engine should be the one that you use from day one.

I tried to bench break in my K&B 45 years ago. Third time on the water the rod failed. Forth time the radio failed and ended up taking out the rod and case after the boat beached itself running wide open. Never again will I run a marine engine unloaded or lean it out to get it to run good on the beach.

RE: Fastech
I did shatter one of the props out on the lake about 3 weeks ago when it was still chilly, but other than that I haven't had any problems and I'm still running the plastic props. The water temp in my bay is around 60 degrees.

RE: Fastech
props need to be balanced,as if they are not,it causes undo stress on the transom and running gear.think of a wheel on your car not balanced, reaches a certain speed and vibrates like hell.props do the same thing, even in the water.as for sharpening the blades, just cuts through the water easier resulting in more speed.

RE: Fastech
so, just switched over to trinity monster power fuel. I use to use traxxas top fuel. let me say a whole lot different. the trinity runs way more consistent. very impressed. i do need to get a metal prop though. im sick of breaking these damn plastic ones. I am having an issue though with how to take the flex shaft out. it says you have to remove a 1.5 mm set screw. what kind of screw is this a allen key one or a phillips?
