go with XTR, its much better in my opinion. plus there are hundreds of helis to download including the T-rex 450 xl and se. and to me it has the most realistic graphics. here is a site with 100+ downloads for XTR. http://www.rc-sim.de/dl_engine_eng/i...0a6a9f96ee6aba
they have 168 heli downloads for XTR.

Get Phoenix ... its superb, graphics stunning and model physics superb .... never crashes and is very easy on PC resources ..
Phoenix added the Trex 450Se recently ... all setup is like the real thing on the transmitter, and all model adjustable parameters easily accessible from drop down menus ...
Great review here ...

Its so new not many people have heard of it ... the end of that review sums it up .....
Plus as you said its much cheaper than XTR ...

Phoenix comes highly recommended by TrexTuning and my old faithful copy of Reflex XTR has been marked for an appearance on eBay.

Neither Phoenix or Reflex XTR come with a controller, and both cost around $200.00 or more when taking into account the need to purchase an adapter for ones transmitter!
Price wise, that sucks, and Reflex XTRs' controller is very expensive, even though it can be used live with a real R/C helicopter, plus it looks weird and probably feels the same way.
Quality wise, not many I am aware of have first hand comparisons between the two.
Phoenix does have a very nice looking demo! Pity they don't allow for actual hands on control like the ClearView demo does.

I bought Phoenix recently and I think it's great. I haven't used any others, I've seen Real Flight in LHS but the controller is mode 1, I'm mode 2, so never used it.
No controller comes with Phoenix but i connect it to my DX7 and it works great, still have all my throttle hold and idle up through the DX7, very simple.
Although I can't say which is better, i can say I'm happy with Phoenix

I have RealFlight 3.5 and don't like it much. I use it on a 22" flat screen monitor and the Helis & planes are too small to see very quickly after launch. I watched folks using Phoenix at my LHS and was very impressed. He said it uses much less computer memory. The Heli remained in sight & identifiable for a longer time and everything seemed to be realistic & easier to use. Also, I can use my DX7 with it and this just makes sense to me.
The LHS did not have any in stock & did not know when it would be available., so I ordered one from Heliguy. The price was nowhere near $200. delivered to Arkansas from the UK. You will like the price. Try: heliguy.com PayPal was OK
Things like reflections of a Heli sitting in a shallow puddle of water on the shore of a lake, the ripples on the water when flying over in ground effect & the sounds of an electric Heli were all realistic. So was the sound of a crash (intended) into the lake. A great splooosh.
I think I am going to finally enjoy a sim.[8D]

I have RealFlight G3.5 and I gave it to a friend of mine and got myself Phoenix and it will be here by Wednesday of this week and I also got the DX7. What ever you do do not do not get Realflight not even the new Realflight G4 is really sucks compare to Phoenix... Also Phoenix is cheaper but you need your own radio but you need to buy a radio anyways..

ok guys I just finish playing with the Sim Phoenix and let me tell you it is amazing so realistic. The physic is very well done and the background effect are great as well... So get Phoenix if you want a very close Sim compare to Real life flying....

I have both simulators. I run phoenix more often, I like the interface better and they are constantly upgrading it for free. Either of the two are the best for helicopters, I have tested these two, realfligh G3.5 and G4, Aerofly, and FSOne and the two you are diciding between are the best for helis.
Phoenix can be had for cheaper too. In the US you can get it from Tower for 160ish -25 coupon only 135, not bad.

Hi clubb699
No the USB wont power the TX ...
Best trick is to remove the crystal from the transmitter ... It will last for ages without transmitting.
You could also remove the battery and use a power adaptor ....
PS: Blimney you started this thread 2yrs and 2 months ago ...
I shouted Phoenix's praise 2yrs ago ... you will regret not buying sooner!!!!!
(Phoenix has improved a lot ove rthose 2yrs ... it just keeps getting better ....)

Clubb, my 2cents....I have just gone thru an extensive set of service from Phoenix, They are fantastic, got my program tailored to an unusual computer and working great. Can't say enough good things about them. & I really like the sim. I've had the Dave Brown for DOS, RF 2, Clearview and now RF 4 also. I'll be selling the RF4 soon and the Clearview is sitting around here somewhere and is definitely available. As for the controller, when you buy Phoenix, you choose what kind of radio you have and they send you the right kind of cable "dongle;" I use it with my Dx6i.
You pay your money and you take your choice. All of them have their strong points and all can help you learn and are fun for a few minutes of late night or lunch break flying. Let us all know how you like what you get. Doc

I've tried Phoenix, XTR and RF4 and personally think that the training senarios in RF are the best of the 3. It's not the best graphics but I really didn't notice much difference in the physics between the three. Anyone of the three will work to help you learn and fly which is the purpose of a sim. It's like debating the best .50 nitro out there, so many choices but you really can't go wrong between Align, Thunder Tiger, Hirobo... etc. All are good.

I get headacheds playing video games but since i took up scale modeling (newby flyer) I'm afraid to fly that thing. There is no room for error since one crash will probably destroy the fuselage. I chose Phoenix since it works with my DX7 out of the box. I use the Trex 450 3d in the SIM for practice and love it. I have a bottle of tylenol for the headaches. I'm still waiting for a Hughes 500 with twin blades to practice on.

Im getting ready to order the Phoenix myself. I need a controller and thought about buying the new Artronics RDS8000 2.4 ghz FHS. Would that be a good
controller to start out with? One article says it doesn't have expo or DR on the rudder for planes? They say you can do some sort of a mix to do the same?
Don't know about that and how important that would be? The price seems to be good anyway and should work good with the Phoenix I would think.
Thanks guys,
Looks like I may be swaying over to a DX7 instead.

Is there a way to use the Esky controller on the Phoenix. Ive had the Esky with USB plug in the past but now have the Phoenix sim. I haven't
bought my X9303 yet so wonder if there is a cheap controller I could use in the mean time to I dish out the bucks for the X9303.

ANOTHER ONE for the Phoenix Sim. Graphics are amazingly crisp and great. however, I do have a question, how are ya'll setting the throttle hold for heli's?? in the TX itself or in the computers programming?
