got the guts up and just pulled a loop while doing FF (only been doing ff for about a week, and i have nose in quite good) , was in idle up and droped it back to mid stick which is about 0 deg then kept back on the cyclic, then full throttle into a ff climbout ! heh, best lunchhour ive ever had, made the rest of the afternoon at work quite nice it did!!

i have an ol grey frame, with XL and SE parts on it... a walkera gyro in normal mode. and a mediocre lipo until my new ones arrive from united hobbies when they get my order actually posted ..

I think I may try my first loop in the next couple of batteries. I have nose in down pat, and have been working on keeping oriented in FF circles and figure 8's. Can't wait to try it! I'll try to get someone to take a vid of it. Congrats on your first!

Congrats on your first loop. It feels grerat doesn't it?
My first loop was in a Raptor 30 V1. I had recently changed from 15% nitro to 30% nitro and I was full of confidence with the newly aquired power. The TT36 was being a good engine (although the bad rep). I climbed fairly high and dove at about 45 degrees to gain speed. I pulled aft cyclic and slightly lowered the pitch at the top. It came out tight, but perfectly round! A few club members were present and not all of them saw the maneuver so they ask me to do it again. Up I go and tried to do the same, apparently I did something different, becasue this time it looked like a 9 and nosed into the dirt.
Continue developing your technique and combine other maneuvers with a loop and you will soon be 3Ding with the rest of them.

thanks guys
Yeah it feels great, a Few weeks ago i was just hovering, but I have been flying every day at lunchtimes, i went from just hovering to a bit of tail in FF, then one day last week just pulled a stall turn and started flying nose in, did that for a 3-4 days or so, and then tried the loop yesterday!
The sim i use is clearview, its cheap and IMO its great, no dongles, works with my homemade cable, its taught me a lot .. next step is do a 2 sec inverted hover at the top of the loop.
I think the key thing to getting better is flying a lot! I try to fly most days and sim most nights..

I tried once to do a loop and ate the dirt.
Was in normal mode though, thought it will make it but it didn't.
Do you imperatively have to be on idle up in order to do a loop?

well ive heard and seen people do loops without being in idle up, but after hearing of a few people looping into the ground i flicked idle up as soon as i took off. I like flying in idle up, i feel the control is more precise having fixed headspeed, and its a lot easier to land from say 75 feet in idle up as you maintain control with more headspeed and just reduce pitch, on a windy day this is a bit of a challenge.
my thoughts ... use it or eat dirt lol !

A loop without switching to idle up can be done, but you have to have:
1. enough headspeed to power the blades at the backside of the loop.
2. you will have to "stick bang" to create the loop, meaning that you have to have forward speed, leave the collective where it is and pull the elevator until you come around. NOT the best scenario.
You don't need too much negative on a loop, but engine RPM is what is going to save your chopper from kissing the dirt again. Just make sure you don't over speed the motor / engine while at zero degrees.

ME too!!!!!!! woohoo
I just did my first "barrel roll" last night. [X(] That will get your heart going. After hours of doing them on realflight I got up the nerve to try it and pulled off 2 then decided to call it a night.
What a feeling huh?

the idle up question - go into idle up! doh!
i forgot to go into idle up and pulled a loop, i was trying to do a 2second inverted hover at the top, but forgot to go into idle up, stalled the blades as i went full negative. i managed to pull out of the loop, but the esc was in softstart from me cutting throttle without idle up and bang, into the dirt, luckilly, i had got the chopper back round out of the loop and only broke undercarrige and bent the tailboom, straightened the boom, glued the skids, and i went for another flight - pulled 2 loops with no issue.

It's much wiser to be in idle-up. And make sure you're plenty high so that there's enough space to recover if you duff it.
Yesterday i pulled four consecutive loops on different flights, then three consecutive barrel rolls as well.Trex ROCKS!!!

How high is considered safe?

How fast can you recover? I can make a mistake on my Raptor 50 at 30 ft and be able to recover. On a Trex 450 I have made mistakes at about 6 ft and been able to recover. Where is your skill level?

I do new manouvers way up there where the Trex looks pretty small. As I get more comfortable with each one I do them lower and lower.

I'm right there with you Crab. Just got back from the park and pulled off my first back flip on accident. Used up the rest of the battery doing flips. It was freakin' sweet.

It was kind of hard for me to see, But I'm wondering if you would have pulled it off without the training gear on? Even if it wouldn't have made a difference you should remove it as it looks like the training gear has served it purpose already. Just a thought.

Hey Rotor13b
lol yea i just got used to looking at it with training gear forgot i could actually take em off, someone else mentioned it so i have removed them the rex is a lot faster :P.. but you know the other day i had a little fly in 30kph winds, there were some plank fliers at the park where i flew, they were looking at me like *** - a dude with trainers on a trex is going to try fly in this wind.. then i went straight into some FFF and a couple of loops ... needless to say i surprised them..
lrrps - the sim is where its at for teaching nose in, plank flying is good for that, its stick towards the low wing (side of the rotor) when its coming towards you
we have some strong southerlies today so will try get out for a fly soon, it doesnt snow/freeze here any of the year so you can fly 365 days wind/guts dependant but the winds fair blowing today

If you are good enough to even attempt loops - wouldn't you have ditched the training gear zonks ago ????
Confused!!!
EDIT: Never mind - read your previous posts!!! doh... sorry..
