my spelling of his last name is probably wrong, but if you want a TNC tach just contact Tony Christamaglia of woodstock,NY. He is the designer and manufacturer of it.

His correct name is Tony Criscimagna. He manufactured, designed, and built the TNC tach until 2003. He sold the rights for the TNC line of tachs back in January of 2003 to Skyborn. I do not know the details of the agreement when he sold the rights to Skyborn, but I think it precludes him from selling them.

I talked with Tony yesterday, and confirmed that he can not produce or sell the TNC line of tachs because of the license agreement that he signed with Skyborn electronics. He was unsure if he would be able to sell any new tachs now that it seems Skyborn is defunct.

Well I have a globee and it is JUNK!
Well I have a globee and it is JUNK!
Might I ask you to elaborate?
I need to buy a Tach..and the globee seemed to be the one to buy...(of the ones that you can actually get anyway)...
I don't neet the h9 w/ voltmeter..unless it is a meter that will load the battery to give an indication of useable life left in the charge...
I need 2,3 and possibly 4 blade readings...but 2 and 3 are a MUST!
I don't care about memories..just accuracy.
Thanks
Larry

Sorry guys I have TNC and the H9---simply no contest. You have to get soooo close with the H9 and then the readings aren't solid.
True, if you can get the readings they're right but the TNC will do it from the tail in about any light.
I hope Skyborn will either get back to business or sell the TNC rights to someone who will. As far as price is concerned------anything under $200 is a deal. I really think$100 to $150 is about right.
Before I got one I too felt they were overpriced. No more! If you compare its operation with the others----I've owned them---you'll no longer feel that way.
Now all we have to do is find out how much the rights are and get someone to produce them. It can't be that much-----'much' being defined in business not personal terms. Based upon this thread, it looks as if a good number could be committed to to justify the start up.

I've had 2 Globees- the first one went bad, and the vendor replaced for me. It seems to work just fine, as long as the battery is good. There was a thread earlier about the need to 'modify' it slightly for better performance. You have to take it apart, and blacken out all the area around the photosensor with a sharpee magic marker. Of course, you want to leave the clear plastic window directly in fromt of the sensor open.

Sorry it took me so long to respond. I lost track of this thread and just picked it up again.
The Globee is JUNK!
Now let me explain.
I have a BME 102 with a 2 blade 26x10 propeller.
My BME idles at 4000 rpm and max rpm is over 9000 rpm.
We know this is wrong.
If I aim my tach so that the sun is shining thought the propeller, I can yaw the tach and pick up a good reading about 40% of the time.
If I place the tach in front of a incandestant light bulb it reads the correct rpm and is steady (3600rpm I think).
If I put it up to a automotive strobe the reading is consistant (and realistic) 750 at idle.
I can yaw and pitch the unit and it pick up great in both of the test conditions.
The best condition that I have in actual operation is to put a very strong light (battery power) in front of the propeller and shine the into the tach through the propeller. The numbers get more consistant but it only seems to work after the sun goes down.
Anyone wants a Globee, I have one that I will sell cheap (plus shipping).

I am not sure that I understand what is wrong.
If You measure the same propeller with the tach set on two blade and it shows 36, it should show 24 when set on three blade mode.
36 (propeller rpm) x 2 (blades) = 72 (single blade frequency)
24 (propeller rpm) x 3 (blades) = 72 (single blade frequency)

This may be a stupid question, but since I am new to this hobby I just have to ask. I am learning to fly and like must other things I do, I go in all the way. I have bought a Glo Bee Tack and have not used it yet, so I really don't know much about them. I have taken it out of the box and the first thing I noticed is that if you point it at a light bulb that is turned on, you will get a reading. I guess since a light bulb goes on and off so many times a second, it was reading that. My question is this since I have seen it several times now. Since I have a 9 volt battery in it, what does the sun light have to do with any of this?
Thanks in advance,
Poppy2

The sun provides the light source for the Tach to read.
The prop breaks the sunbeam, providing the pulse of light for the Tach to convert to RPM.
The Tach must be able to discern the difference between full sun light, and the diminished light beam provided by the shadow of the prop.
Hope this helps a little.

So, back to the orriginal question, does anyone have any updated information on if there is a replacement for the TNC tach?
Or, now that Skyborn is defunct, has anyone talked to Tony Criscimagna to see if he can go back to making the tach, or know who currently has the rights??
Thanks

I see Laser Tachs for RC on **** for around $20. I have an ACE Tach but was still tempted to buy one of these Lasers. Shouldn't be hard to find. I hadn't seen this post or I would have more info and a link? This post was about Laser Tachs that are made in China.

I have a GloBee tach that is a little finicky ... ( works like Giestware reported above) and requires being real close to the prop.
Recently purchased a Cermark .... it may not be the best, but it has been very consistent and easier to use ... allows me to get a little further from the prop for readings.
Priced right also ($37.00).
