Jersue:

You're going to love the ASM P-61...It's a great flyer..Put your comments on it in the 'ASM P-61 Built" section of the twins forum....As for the ASM C-130, still undecided on whether to get it or not...Still reading the postings that you and Randy M are put in this section...the posting about the"envelope of error", that is very, very small, dosen't make me go right out and buy it...Will keep reading Randy M's comments on the subject...If everything goes right with his model, then and only then will I decide on getting it...Until then, good luck with your ASM P-61

Jimmy, the plane does fly really good and it does have some faults> but you have to have very reliable engines on it and keep the airspeed up and you will be fine. The only reason I keep going with it is flys great when things go well and looks and sounds awesome on the ground and in the air!! Jerry sorry you lost the bird. You are right on one aspect. There is a VERY tight flight window. With an engine out speed is critical an I am always desending with an engine out. Unfortunately my last 2 engine out's were outboard and very difficult.

Best to all of you flying the herk. Jim

Well anymore good news on the C-130 as of late?.,..Have you flown much lately?...Like to see your reports before I commit....Am leaning that way to get one,but want to be sure before I do..Thrus and Friday look to be good days for flying...Temps in the 80's lite winds...Like to take my P-61 out,but the weld joint on one of the legs is cracked,so not taking any chances with it..already send it in to 'Mike" at hobby shack, probably get the new one back soon I hope....Just wanted to check in here to see what progress you are making with the Herky...good luck

Yep,am going to get one...Got all the information you have on here, and first of all,got a twin star, that I'll put the Mag 30's FS in and do some flying with it this fall...Have one new engine to break in..The other three I have , are broken in...I have made adjustments on the valves...Also look for a 5000ma battery for the on board glow..hook it up like you did...C-130's aren't available, but when they are, will buy one thru my LHS..Also going to talk to Mike from Hobbyshack and get the same info he gave you in regards to changes,if any, on the Herky..Thanx again for all the info I got from you...Will keep in touch in regards to the Herky....Good luck with yours.............

I'll keep you informed as soon as the kit becomes available...Am thinking maybe I can get 2 Saito 30 FS from a friend of mine...A little horse trading here..If i do,will use them on the outboard engines..Mags 30 FS on the in boards...Like I said,am thinking...Nothing positive yet...Rain here for the next 5 days..Sat looks good, but this is a wait and see type of thing...Mother nature is being mean...I wonder who she's mad at...take care...secure those air lines...

Hey Gents

I’ve been out of the light for a month or so—hard drive crashed—lost everything. C-130 crashed also—total lost. It didn’t crash from design flaw—try pilot stupidity. Before I tell you, I’ll tell you this: my inverted 2-strokes were a pain in the a**. They all would flue lock just sitting there—club members concluded the fuel tanks sat too high. I would drain three and the forth one would lock—drain it and another would lock—the last flight was going to be my last flight one way or another.

While flying around just fine and for awhile, one of the engines started flaming out—I wanted to land it in a hurry. Instead of asking my flying buddy who was standing right next to me which runway to land on (windy), I turned and looked at the windsock like a fool. A mere nanosecond passed and my buddy yield—I turned back toward the plane and it had rolled over and headed south in a hurry.

In a way, I’m happy—it was a piece of crap anyways, just looked good in the air. So gents—I’ve got perfect retracts with air lines still attached--$359 new—mine are still new: $150. Engines are awesome upright: OS 25 FSRs—I’m keeping them [>:]

Later

Here are a few pics of what I wrote to you in regards to the OS 40 FS fitting inside the nacelle...The Mag 30's FS, just don't have enough power to fly the plane..just fly nthe plane at 1/2 or 3/4 throttle..Want that power to overcome a stall, which the plane is noted for...Rather have too much, then not enough... I assume mine will weight in between 20 -22 Ibs..............take care

I'll be using the tanks that came with the kit..They are 190cc,and that is 6.4 us ozs...The engines I will be using, are OS 40 surpass FS's...Manual says if you use a 150cc ( 5.0) oz tank, you should get a 10 minute flight...If that is true, then 190cc should be sufficent....Can't say too much more about it, will know more when I run the engines after breakin in...

I think I mentioned that I have 14 fligths on mine with 4 engines of OS 30 each and the tanks that it came with it It flies great but fuel is only lasting 5 min at alternate throthel level. This is a problem for me and I do not see how you get 10 min run with a 40 size engine. I am planning to install a 40 cc tank in the fuse rigth over the CG pressurized from one of the mufflers and supply fuel to all prefilled tanks via manifolded tubing. This will be tested on the ground. I will let you know. Remember starting time for 4 engines, taxing to take off position and ground run time they all come from the same tank. Is interesting to know if the 40 size engine fitts over the supplied engine mounts. Can you clear this Thanks Mike

Mironpopescu1:

Am not going to make any decisions on the 40's FS yet on the C-130..Might have to change my mine and use the Mag 30's FS engines..Had problems with the engines on my ASM P-61...the engines were going up and down like a yo-yo...Had to repack the fuel tanks with foam, put 7 drops of armor-all in a gallon of fuel, and use 'Master Airscrew # MA4500' fuel filters..Also switched to 15% fuel...Problem resolved and the engines are really singing now...Check the thread out..Right now,am working on the retracts, so will work on them m(tanks and engines to use) when I get that far...back to the work bench..........BTW, nice pics of the C-130 in flight...looking good....

Nice looking P61. Saw the review in the AMA mag. Great quality isn't it ? Worth the effort. Starting my Palmer kit 134 span C130 with 4 FS OS 70. I will post pics as I get along. Good talking to you Mike

working on mine at the present time...will go with 30 size engines...have managed to get 4 Saito 30FS engines..two are broken in the other two are brand new and will go into a twin star to get broken in..also the fuel tanks that came with the kit (190cc ozs.)....got the retracts all set up and using a seprate channel for steering..waiting for a servo I ordered online, so I can hook up my steering (nose gear)..will use a JR matchbox for the throttles..also a reduntant system...Right now ,have to decide where to put my switches (3)..progress is slow, but sure..want to do things right...BTW,did find 2 bulkheads that didn't have a drop of glue on them...CA took care of that...Will keep you posted as I move along....
