Just received my MSC 22/8 prop for the extra Special 28% i am hoping this prop will slow the bird down a little . I think it will it is super wide blade and awesome looking . The plane flies ok but it needs to have some more braking on the down lines and landings, been running the Airwild NX props 22/8

The down lines and approach is where the MSC props really shine. You probably will notice a slight loss of peak rpm, but with no loss of thrust. The thrust will likely increase with the lower peak RPM numbers. But when you drop back to idle you'll note a slower approach and down line speed, while still maintaining good airflow and control at the flight surfaces. The above relates most directly to the 22-8 MSC.

The larger MSC props, i.e. 26" and up, are a lot of wood and have been known to lug an engine down a bit, so experimenting a little with the larger sizes is in order if you have an engine that will handle them.

Thanks Silversurfer yes i am going to experiment with the larger ones to on the 6.4 it should run good on a 26/10. I have run the 3w 27/10 with good results and the 28/10 NX props also. I look forward in seeing the difference This weekend when and if the weather straightens out using the new prop on the 3.2

On my 6.4 I couldn't get over 5,500 rpm with the 26-10 MSC. Cutting it down 1/2 an inch only gained another 150 rpm. Even Gary agreed that it was not the best prop for the engines' power band. Going with a Menz "S" 27-10 and the rpm immediately jumped to 6,000 plus a little with an immediate and very noticeable improvement in thrust performance and a cooler engine. BTW, the base elevation of the rpm tests was about 450' MSL. My normal flying field has an elevation of about 1,300' MSL and the MSC was too much prop for the 6.4. I've got a Biela prop at the house but it appears that it will be quite some time before I get to try it. Looking at the Biela, it has a blade width that lands between the MSC and the Menz.

Wow i am glad to know that before i spent my money on the 26/10 i get 6100 on the menz 27/10 and 5900 on the nx 28/10. I havent checked the rpms yet but i ran the msc today and could notice just a slight rpm drop but could really feel the pull and motor sounded more healthy. I didnt tach it but i am just waiting to see how it flys with the msc on it. Thanks by the way the Brison will get stronger as the motor breaks in . Took about 10 gallons on mine before it really felt good and running to its potential.

initially i was will to buy Menz 22x8 or NX22x8 to break in my brand new Da-50.
after broken in, planned on switching to 22x10.
BUT none of the 22x8 prop was available and i had no choice but to buy NX22x10.

will i have a hard time in downwind approaching and landing?

and .. should it necessarily be 22x8 for breaking in?

I dont know anything about the da 50s i know most of the guys run a 23 or 24 inch prop i just know that i am impressed with the MSC props and waiting for the weather to break free to fly. Maybe someone will chim in here to offer their opinion on what prop for your motor. I just dont think the ones you mention will have much braking affect.

You can break in the DA with the 22-10 just fine. As for performance issues, only the owner of the plane can determine what they like best. A lot of the DA flyers are using 23 and 24" props to achieve the desired performance for their flying styles. The Brison 3.2 seems to perform near it's best with the MSC 22-8. It will swing a larger prop for certain, it's just a matter of what you are looking for in performance for this type of aircraft. As in anything else in this hobby, there are no fixed rules for what's best for everyone.

I'm also braking my da-50 in just finished 2nd gallon last weekend,, and I'm using a Menz 22x8 and I'm able to get about 7200 RPM's DA recomentd to get over 6500 rpm for the break-in, I started with a BME 22x10 but it didnt give me the RPMs I needed to have I only got 6300 rpm, The BME prop looks really good but I think it suck for breack in!!!

Menz 22x8 I think it's the way to go that what most of the guys are using!!! And I can tell you that this prop could be all you need, With this prop I'm able to do any kind of flying.[sm=thumbup.gif]

I've broke my DA50's in on Mejzlik 22 x 10 @7200 rpm or so...........Bolly wood 22 x 10 @ 6600 rpm, and I tried a Bolly wood 23 x 8, but only got 6300 which was a bit too much of a load and I didn't like the way the plane (WH Edge) performed. I nipped 1/2" off each end of the 23 x8 and made a 22 x 8 out of it. RPM's came up to 6900 or so and much better performace.....

See what I mean about a little experimenting?

I have been using the new 22X8 laminated prop from BME on my DA50 for break in. I'm turning 6850 with it and its a very pretty prop that comes with painted white tips. I think I will try one on the new ZDZ80.

This was the first prop I had ever tried to shorten like that. I figured I couldn't use it as a 23 x 8, so what did I have to loose? I won't hesitate from now on to nip a bit off the tips to get the r's up where I want them. Talk about customizing....... No trouble getting it to balance afterwards either.

I have a DA-50 and a menz 22X8 prop turns 7150 Im on my 4th gal of the 32:1 lawnboy ashless mix and ive noticed at high rpms under load it sounds like it has preignition like a pinging should i be leaning it out? Ive enjoyed the way its performed so far hate to mess it up now that ive fallen in love with this thing. On approches i bring the nose up till i get the speed i want then just glide it in more often then not i have to blip the throttle just to keep it from going to slow. so speed with this prop is not an issue.

You need to richen the high side up, but if yours is like mine, you can't. I put a WT76 carb on one of mine to solve that problem. On the other one, I drilled the high speed fuel passageway out..................Be looking for a thread on the gas engine site for the modification to the stock carb......just haven't had the time to write it.

Been modifying props for years to get the performance I needed/wanted. I'm glad to see you found one of the "secrets" to better performance

Try going about 1/8- 1/4 turn richer on the high end, but only if you're certain that the sound you are hearing is not the prop "ripping". You might want to try a slightly larger prop first, such as a 23-8, and go from there.

After reading all your favorable reports I bought a MSC 22x8 prop for my DA50. However I've noticed that the prop is a little wide & does not fit my spinner cut for a Mejzlik prop etc.

What did you guys do about that? Did you modify the Spinner OR modify the Prop?

Also what RPM's are you getting with this prop (peak + regular running) ?

Well for sure do not modify the prop. That could be a disaster.

You can call Dave Brown (I asume it's a DB spinner) and ask if they can cut it more or send you another one as exchange.

I use Tru-turn spinners and always ask for the "Fuchs cut". That way the fat props all fit. Just to be safe I always tell Bob what prop I plan to use - he's not been wrong yet!! I've never used an MSC but I may in the future.

You should see how big they are in the 26" diameters! Those take some extra cutting on the spinners, for sure!

One prop I haven't tried on the 50cc motors yet is the Biela, from 3W. They work very well on the larger engines, but it's a thought for someone that has both the inclination and the extra cash to give a whack to. They're pretty, too

As a matter of fact, I have a 22X8 Biela on my DA 50 and it's very happy! They don't come from 3W though, a man in Europe somewhere by the name of Biela actually makes them. They are great props, similar in width to an MSC and putting a fairly heavy load for their size on the engine. I am also running a 28X10 on my BME 110 Xtreme, and it works quite well there too. That one is red to match my plane. A Yellow one would be great on my Edge, but nobody had one locally, so I went with the red and white.

The Biela is a very pretty prop, I'vw got one of the red/white ones for the Giles. In the 28-10 size, thankfully it's not a wide or massive as the larger MSC.
