Default 85" Cap

I have looked through a bunch of threads and have a couple questions..

Does anyone have any decent videos of this plane besides harriers? Every video I seem to find does that 80% of the time and a couple tumbles and thats it.

Also I am wondering if anyone has gotten this plane close to 16 pounds with any CF or anything?

I have been torn for awhile between the new Extra and the Cap and this input will greatly assist me Also helps that the Caps are on sale right now... just trying to see if Tom has an 85" in all white

4 point / 8 point rolls.. rolling circles and some more tumbles.

Also somene one said somewhere this plane does extremely nice HAKE. I have done / seen them on the WH Edge so I am looking to see them on the Cap.

Long story short I have a very strong 50 that I need a home for. I was sold on the Extra because I really like how extras fly.. however I have an option to pickup a nice WH 260 or a 33% Hanger 9 330 at a good price so I am thinking why have a small extra as well and I have a 104" Edge that's almost done.

I havent had a Cap yet and since I can get a white one and the recent sale I am leaning towards the Cap. That being said I like rolling loops / circles as we;; 3D so I was more or less looking for a vid that showed some of the other things... even an inverted harrier would be nice to see

I am also curious if a CF wingtube / spinner with an engine that weighs within oz.'s of a DA 50 will get me close to 16 pounds.

The Cap needs a little weight in the front, so rather than invest in a CF spinner you'd be better to get a CF stab tube or anything else that can make the tail lighter.

it does do good HA knife edges- better than the edge will do for sure. the cap will kick trash on the tumbles too. the rolling circles and 4/8pt rolls nothing special for either airplane of course. It just warmed up here (a little) so maybe i can try to fulfill your desires on film in the next week or so. i don't know about a low invt. harrier thou- i'll have to see if i can trust my engine that much. did you see this video already?

Nice video... actually I believe I saw that one in the summer.. but it wasnt 2 videos and I forgot about that one. That video pretty much covers what I was looking for.

I just ordered the 85" since I have a 54cc engine that needs a home.

It's an x-mas gift from my wife so I am looking forward to starting it I actually ordered a white one.. gonna make an attempt at designing something different.

Thanks for the input

ya its going to be a little bit of a challenge for me thats for sure... I dont really have that side of the brain working properly.. ask me to rip apart a computer or troubleshoot a large network.. no problems... ask me to visualize something or draw and you will get stick men

Atleast it's winter time I don't have to rush

Well it seemed to take forever for it to happen... but it finally arrived today Outside boxes where not too bad either.

Couple small issues... but I am sure Tom will take care of them. I even drove 45 mins to the hobby shop today and picked up some covering. Hopefully will have some pictures to share once I get some color on her

Well I thought I would share an update of the Cap..

I have mostly been working on the covering so far and havent started to glue anything yet. I am hoping to maiden her at our freeze fly on Jan 1st. Time is tickin away so I am hoping I have the free time to get her done.

Will be completed with the following:

Brillelli 54cc (prototype for the 366GT 60cc)
4 x Hitec 5645s
1 x Hitec 5955
NoBS battery setup
CF wing tube and spinner

Well here is some pics of what she looks like so far...

ya I havent started the fuse yet... the whole canopy and top of the cowl will be purple then some gray down the side and there will be some yellow on the turtle deck as well as the rudder.

I also have some cap 232 decals and whatnot to add to it

Well my 85" Cap flew today for the first time. Got 2 flights in and then it got dark.. weather wasn't the best today.

It flew ok but I have major thrust / CG issues that need to be resolved. I was wondering did you guys balance it right side up or inverted and where are you flying the CG at?

As it sits it needs a lot of down el. to fly level and inverted it needs a lot of down el to keep level. I have it right close to 4" balance wise.. in verted it's perfectly level and right side up it drops the nose slightly. To me that it seems right... but flying wise it's a different ball game.

I did one flat spin and it flattened out nicely. KE pulled to the gear like no tomorrow. Hovering was very funny.. but I didnt expect much considering all the other issues.

Also if I fly at half throttle and drop tyhe throttle it balloons a lot. It's flying like it's very tail heavy.. but inverted says it's not and the el. is not hyper sensitive.

Anyhow.. if anyone can give me input on what they did with the thrust and CG I would appreciate it. I will post some final pics of it soon as I get a chance... people really liked the finished product and I got a lot of "who makes that Cap"

I will tell you one thing.. this baby has some serious roll rate I think once I get my issues dealt with I will be a happy camper.. it seems like a floater and looks like it will fly well.

Happy New Year!

I feel ya dude. yeah cg and thrust is what you will play with a lot... i needed a lot of R thrust added- as far as cg goes you can go too far... go back forward a bit and play around... hovering IS wierd with this airplane... the KE will mix out ok... i balanced it right side up and mine was right around 4" and remember that is 4" at the wing tips I've put over 4 gallons on mine now and i really like it but it took a while. Its a great airplane and nothing will snap or harrier quite like it. keep posting your progress.

have fun

You need to add some up thrust. You should be able to fly along at full power and cut the throttle (touching nothing else) and it should keep going without suddeny climbing or diving.

Obviously when you cut power it will start to descend, but it should be gradual. Also try flying at half throttle, straight and level, then go to foll throttle. It should not change suddenly, just go straight ahead.

This is common with the Cap, the low wing/high tail and thrust make them perform well but not so easy to trim.

It also sounds a bit tail heavy.

no i actually shimmed it with thin plywood- washers will take you forever to get there. I guess it depends on the washers... hard to say how much i have under there, just don't be afraid to put a lot
