U-Can-Do 3d 46?

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
towers, when it goes lateral, does it always go left? if so you might try putting a couple of washers under the mount on the right side(as yur looking at it) between the mount and firewall, this will give you about 1.5 degree right thrust and will help it "hang there"
your servos are ok and i dont know much about your engine but i think the 13x4w would work well on a .61 2stroke
oh------ and to hover takes a lot of practice, a lot (to hover well that is)

Towers
the servos are fine
but out a lot of throw on the surfaces
and gjeffers is right
the same thing happend to my but i put in 1 degree right thrust and that isn't quite enough
i'm going to put in another .5-1 degree more in during the winter (the non flying seasion-lol-as i call it) seasion
but my dad and i and other guys at our field fly all year long

Thanks guys!!!
I need to look to which side does it goes, I'm not sure about that... throws are high but I would give them a bit more
And do you think Nitro gasoline would help its vertical performance?? I use 80% Methanol and 20%lubricant...normal...
Finally what CG do you guys recommend???
Thanx again!

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Does anyone fly both a Can Do 36 and a Twist? I can't find ANYTHING as fun to fly as the Twist--with an 82 Saito driving it. I have a Can Do 60 with a Saito 1.0, but it's a dog, no fun to fly. Big is not always beautiful. And it's not NEARLY as aerobatic or as responsive as the Twist.
I have considered getting a Can Do 36. That's why I've been reading this forum. But I can save the money and just get another Twist, too. I need to save the Twist and find another challenge. Is it the Can Do 36?
Let me know. Thanks.
Jack
P.S. Other planes in my hangar: P-51D w/ retracts; Model Tech Extra (O.S. .50) and Magic (.45 Super Tigre); Big Stik O.S .60.; Sturdy Birdy II with a 51 Super Tigre.

Towers, yes on the nitro, 15% at least and i bet that your plane is falling to the left and your having to give right rudder to hold it in position so you will need right thrust
38, you and your dad ever need a vacation from the cold and come to the desert southwest come on down to the mojave desert and well go flying, i have a lot of room out here,(no freeways or traffic lights where i live)

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
GJEFFERS - Thanks for the info on the pushrods. I really like the way you did that. Thanks!!!
TOWERS - The other guys covered about everything I was going to suggest. Their advice is right on the money.
As far as GC goes, put it about where the information that came with your plane recommends, and then move it (Usually back), from there. If you get it too far back, you will kinda get a "Mushy" feeling on the elevator. When inverted, you should only have to put a little down pressure on the elevator stick. At least thats been my experience. Maybe one of the other guys can put that into better words than I can. Also, remember to always check your trim, after making a CG change. You will usually need a click or two.
Changing to a 13X4 or 14X4 is going to really make your plane more "U-Can-Do" like. Low and slow is the thing with these planes, they dont like to go fast.
Have fun,,,,,

Jack, I have flown a friends UCD 60 with a ummm.... I think it was an OS 90 or something like that. Anyway, it was too underpowered for me. Also I had a Twist. Very fun plane but I just couldn't get the hang of it. Since you have one Twist I would go with the UCD 46. Put an 82 or bigger in it and you'll have a blast with it. [8D]

i think the ucd flys a lot better

the 46 ucd would be a good plane

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Okay, setting up my radio. I have a 7CAP. I am now messing with the elevators.
I have a S3151 on each side. I went through the PMix to set up a mix for this. Just
to find out when you use the trim it only trims the master not the slave.
Plus the PMIX when set up per futaba it only moves the horn one way. Obviously
this is NOT the way to do it. So, do I need a reversing y harness? If so I can not
find them on tower. Do I need a 9CAPS? I dont really want to put the money out
for another radio. Would rather buy other planes...help guys!

Darn! Gary beat me to it...... And he could probably fly inverted while posting it too......[>:]

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
I replaced the problematic Super Tigre G.61 2-stroke engine (flamed out on almost every flight - sure got good at dead-sticks!) in my UCD.46 with a new Magnum XL-70 and it runs great. I now have about 8 or 10 flights on the new engine and I'm wondering if I have the best prop for this combination. I'm running a 13 x 6 (the recommended break-in prop). I can hover at about 3/4 throttle. Anyone have any experience with the XL-70 in the .46-size UCD?

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Towers... All great advise above!!... A flight Sim will help alot (well, it helps
most) It helped me in seeing how important it is to catch any deviation from
vertical as fast as possible.. Before it happens is even better:-)... That way
you will use "Really" small control corrections..<<Very important!!..
Having your model closer to you also helps alot... And practice, practice practice!!
Get the longest, widest prop that your engine will turn.. (4 strokers for me)
IMO max throws for hoving is not needed.. For me the key was, early detection
of deviation, very small control movements and my mind..... A good balanced
model.. vert and lat.. the stock rearward suggestion works well...
Jerry C... A YS 63 worked Great for me, But at higher elevation, thin hot air can/
will effect its performance.... But its hard to beat the pressurized system for the
inverted engine... I'm now using the S-100... and I still can't really answer the is it
better question... I can say it pushes a lot of air... Once you get the throttle control
down the "Do" will hover itself with so much more control... I myself noticed very
little difference on the weight between the two engines, The "Do" still floats and lands
great!! For everything else... Well I think my two previous crash repairs has change
the way my "Do" is flying and I'm still working on finding the "new" setup...
Well now that I did not make the final cut on my new past time... Got booted off
the last chance to make the final game table as the 90th person out of 1500:-( Think
I used up all my Karma to make the table, I finally got the necessary points to enter
the game 10 mins before the game started..... So I have more time.....
I have started putting the S. T. together..... On my choices for my other plane... I
wanted something else... But... waiting on the OMP V2 48" to be shipped after
Thanksgiving.... And trying to adjust the old "Do" to find the setup... Have fun Peeps

i have a 9c and their about the same
on the pmix you need to turn on the TRIM mode
and on the % page put one of the %numbers on
the oppsite of what you have it and it should be fine
[(100% 100%)(should be)(-100% 100%) or (100%
-100%)(if their going the same way but the opposite
of the stik movement use the reverse sitting that's what it's their for)]
my friend has a 7c with a 60 ucd and he has no ys on it

38,
I dont know how it set it up. I had it as 100% and -100% and switched them too,
still didnt work. Even if it did there is not a TRIM mode on the 7c, just the 9c.
Thanks for the help though!

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Looks great Gary.... Let us know how it goes!!
Happy Turkey day to all:-)
Took the "Do" out this morning... What a blast with the S100 in there, My 10oz
tk. last longer too:-) Most throttle position 1/4 or less.. I don't believe I will go
back to a smaller engine... S-100 16x4W for me:-)... Still having some problems
with flat spins with this setup.... But it'll get worked out or in:-( Beside the flat
spins I notice no difference in flight/landings with the S-100 on the nose.. except
unreal thrust.. All else seems so much eaiser to maintain with all that air being
pushed... Plus I have all the extra Wing Harmonice now And the wing is still
together... Well cept for the hinge....
Got a first (with the "Do") the tail did a touch down... :-).... But have
some work to do.... my rt. inner aileron hinge is cracked at the hinge line:-(..
I hope this repair does not take as long as my last..... Well Back to the game:-)
