You want the air entering the cowl, to get directed over the cooling fins on the engine.
Also, more opening for exit is preferred.....as in open the cowl beneath the engine, on the cyl head side.

Duct work added?

Had to turn the muffler and used the Ultra Copper High Temp RTV Silicone to reseal it, I don't think I'll need a pitts . I carefully applied it to the exhaust port, then apply the paper gasket that came with motor (I have watercolor paper that's ticker than this gasket lol lol, have 20+ yrs as an artist under my belt) I also applied the Ultra Copper on the muffler. Forgot to use thread lock on the muffler assembly screw, hence the reason why the muffler has all that goo on it.

Messed up my engine Friday. The lower end of the connecting rod broke and sent my shiney new spinner flying through the air when it stopped. The lower end of the con rod had a piece break off. The bushing insert on the lower end was still on the crank pin and it came off easily when pulled on it. So the bearing hadn't galled. The engine hadn't been run much and I followed the the instructions for the first 15 minutes with an APC 13x9 prop @3,500 rpm.And decided to fly the rest of the break in. The plane took off easily at less than 1/2 throttle and was running with a burble. I had started and stopped the engine several times taxiing the plane around before I got up the gumption to take off. I had flown several laps (six maybe) in the pattern when it stopped. On dis-assembly there were little shards of aluminum all through the crankcase. When I took it apart, the piston and cylinder wall had no marking. So, I think it is ok and just need the rod replaced. Will try to post a pic of the rod later.
Fuel tubing: Try this stuff from Sullivan. It sure makes using small tanks very easy. It is very flexible. Don't know how long it will last, as this is my first use. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXXWD2&P=7 Unfortunalely, it only comes in two sizes but the small is flexible.

RE: New .90 gas engine (15cc)
Well my Top Flite P51 65in deadsticked 4x today. Weird since it runs great on the ground. During testing on ground we ran the plane inverted and straight up. During flight it stalls and full throttle about 2mins in. Tried it again on the ground and after 3min ran great. Any clues?

Think the tank is a 420cc. Now if the LS needle off why would that effect the high end? Seems like it runs great from 0-100%. Isnt LS needle just for 0-50%. We are gonna redo the tank line and start from scratch.

RE: New .90 gas engine (15cc)
The low speed circuit contributes fuel through the entire RPM range, if large enough (~1/4 turn) adjustments are made to the low speed needle the high speed mixture can be adversely effected. Always finish a tuning session with a re-check of the high speed needle setting.

I've got about 90 minutes of run time on my engine. I'm using Poulan synthetic oil @ 20:1. My plan is to finish up the 1/2 gallon I started with, then go to a 32:1 mixture.
I have had very good luck with a 13x8 prop and have achieved a smooth top end at 10,400 rpm. Have not run very long at that rate but it seems to peak out very nicely so far.
Have gotten steady idle rpm of about 2200. Transition has been pretty good if I don't move the throttle too quickly. The engine is in my plane and I haven't done much mid range testing yet. I think I will move to a 14x7 prop, make a few more adjustments, and prepare to do some flying...
Still have quite a bit of blow-by, and I too am going to seal up the muffler... and re-do the muffler gasket.
Hope the snow doesn't come too soon...[X(] Our field is at 7200 ft.

You've got some nice rpm numbers there!
Do you suggest the engine as far as smooth running is concerned?

RE: New .90 gas engine (15cc)
Well we redid the tank today and hope to fly it again tomorrow. With the 15x6prop its running about 8000. The transition is good but at full throttle it does fluctuate from 7800-8300. Its got a good idle and has power all the way though. Yesterday when it would stall in flight it would slowly start to loose power. We richened it up 2x and didnt matter and she still would dead stick. Then when we tested it on the ground it would run great. Each time it stalled in flight it was in level flight at full throttle.

A JR 2300ma 6 volt nimh,to a switch and reciever with a y on ignition and rcexell remote kill switch,ch 5 for remote kill,ch 6 for power, bout 35 flight between two planes that way, would probably do the same on my 33% but i need the batt wieght on nose, flew again today, best yet,Thanks for selling a cool product Jody and Regets AMA.

RE: New .90 gas engine (15cc)
Thats what we thought. We richen it up on both flights and it didnt help. The way we tuned it was to get it to around max rpm and then back it down 400rpm. Think I should prop it down to get the rpms up? With a 15x6 its only doing 8k.

Try with the low end rich (as rich as possible, but still reliable idle) and moderate lean on the top end. If this doesn't help, try the opposite. In general, for petrol engines, a rich low end allows you to lean the top end and vice versa. You might also need an hour or two of run time before you can tune out the inconsistent top end.

Kostas1,
The engine seems to be very well balanced and has run smoothly for me from low rpm to high rpm. I have not been able to run the engine in several weeks, and probably won't get a chance to for a few more as I'm in the middle of moving.
Can't wait to get some air-time on it... May not be 'till next spring[&o]
Regards

RE: New .90 gas engine (15cc)
Had to reroute my tygon tubing....
The muffler is to close to the firewall.....any idea where I can get a spacer to solve this issue?
I'm still using the APC 14x6. Would a Vess 16x8 be to much for the JBA 15?
