Probably, but I never seem to get round to it, as I am having too much fun with the UF. Plus its one of those jets that just comes out, plays and then packs away ready for next time. Very, very little reason to ever get the wrenches out to work on it. Although having said that it is due a bit lot love as the start up settings on the ECU are out since I swapped the turbine out for a stint in my Tin cat in miami. its just a tad toast on start up right now. Ali, to fix the ballooning............ on the 12x if you use the servo slow feature on the flaps, the trim change is instant IF you use individual trims in flights modes and that gives you the ballooning..........but after you fly and get it trimmed out with the individual trims you can then go into the flap/elev mix and add the same point number difference in the full flap you have between normal and land (if you have 3 down in norm and 25 down in land, the difference is 22) and then the flap and trim will come in at the servo slowed speed, no ballooning!!!!

You're welcome, i left out..........don't forget to neutralize the trims in the flight modes after you add the mix.

I will get my UF on the bench later this evening and take some photos and measurements as I have a few PM's relating to this. Please be aware. I am not stating that this is the only, or the best set up for a Ultra Flash. I am a firm believer that every plane has an ideal set up, and that is the one that the pilot is most happy with. I would never be as presumptuous to say that any other set up is wrong. Instead I try and advise people to have a play with their radio and balance set up till they get it how they like it. Just because it states it in the manual, does not make it right. I have found this true to so many different aircraft over the years, and now a days I am always flying and thinking '' what can I do to make this feel better'' Example... My UF set up is great at slowing the model down, but I need to find a way to get the flap to elv mix coming in slowly so that I don't get the ballooning up that I get if I drop the flaps too suddenly, and while the model is flying too quickly.
Regards Al
I roll to KE then deploy the flaps, no ballooning then.

Assuming that your DSM12x is the same as the DSX12 you can do this in 'flap system'. Firstly make sure that your servo slow is back to normal as its not needed. In 'flap system' use the delay feature and this will not only do your servo slow, but it will also feed in the elevator compensation at the same speed and even crow if you have it.

Hope it helps

Steve

What length extensions are needed for the rudder and stabs? 36 inch or 48?

Thanks

36 is tight but doable, 48 is a little long.......any option to make your own?

I have just retro fitted the conformal tanks in the UF. It is a very tight fit and requires some work to ensure that the tanks aren't 'squeezed' by the bypass, inlet coupler or fuselage sides. It is essential that you remove the flange on the inlet coupler. By doing so you weaken the join somewhat so a small amount of glass cloth is required to strenthen it. I secured the tanks in with a small amount of velco at the end of the tank against the fuselage former. They are very secure so over engineering the security of them seems to be a waste of time.

The tanks are very thin so filling will have to be completed slowly. The capactly of each conformal tank is 950ml (just under 1 litre). A BVM overflow nipple was fitted in the fusealge. The whole system is, in my opinion, much neater than the wing coupling system, although functionality of that was perfect.

When the weather here improves I'll fly it.

Cheers,
Rob

Rob, make sure you check the wing bolt length to be sure they don't punch through your tanks.

Thanks, I have. Cut them down by 1/4" so they clear the tank.

Nice Job.

What fittings have you used on the tanks?

Cheers

Just a thought when the tanks are full the velcro may not be enough to hold them in position especially in negative flight.

Mike, the conformals are a very snug fit and once the wings on, they can't go anywhere.

Chris,

Tank hardware are the items supplied by CARF. I have used large Festo metal barbed T pieces to couple up the tanks.

I've just filled them and did it at such a slow rate the Orbit was just chugging - took for ever - yet, one of the tanks is weeping fuel from the seam. So, out they come to fix that[:@]

Mike,

No chance of any movement. Take another look at the image and imagine the wing bolted on. The velco is just there as a 'belt and braces' matter. Thanks for your thought though.

Rob

Hi Rob,

If they are that thin then, if it was me, I would bite the bullet and put another layer of glass cloth over the whole of the tanks. I had to do this to the tank in my Hunter as it was also very thin.

Geoff.

KC and Rob

Thanks for clearing that up, would hate to think of it all moving in flight.

Hi,

What is everyone using for servo arms? I was trying to use the SWB clevis arms but I cant fit the rudder fairing on because the arms too tall. I like the thought of metal arms but I thing I may just use the JR HD nylon ones. I would like to keep all the arms the same to keep the same general servo resolution though. I really wish SWB had a .75" arm! Thanks in advance
