KMP Stuka-build details

RE: KMP Stuka-build details
Just got this plane last week to build for a customer. Initial inspection for damage and it looked pretty impressive. Today I took it out of the box and spread it out on my work table. Dry fit some assemblies and got a better look at it. Now, I'm not so impressed. This plane has some issues with the work that's already been done. The pin hinges for the flight surfaces are not the same as the ones described at the beginning of this thread. The hinges on the plane are flat and glue into slots in the trailing edge of the wing. Some of the slots are not at 90 degrees like they should be and this is causing the hinge line to be wrong. Also the ailerons and flaps are pre drilled in the leading edge. Problem is there is not enough holes and whats there is in the wrong location. The holes will need to be filled. The instructions make no mention of the wing root drill jig which I assume is used to drill the roots for alignment dowels. Wing joiner slots in center section are slightly skewed and wing panels stay twisted to the center section. Again, this is all dry fit but it is going to require a fair amount of "corrective" surgery to get this wing correct. Small ink written numbers on the edges of some of the flight surfaces have covered with tape and painted. The tape was taken off and now there is dime size areas of exposed unpainted surface. Some small pieces of missing hardware. This is only looking a little ways into it so far. It's not real bad but nothing to be all impressed about either. It's going to take some time to correct the mistakes, that's for sure. I will try and get some pictures of the above mentioned in a day or so.

The holes you are referring to pre drilled in the ailerons and flaps are not there for the hinges they are there as part of the painting process. The component part can be supported by wires in these holes so it can be painted.

What's really funny are these holes are exactly the correct size for the hinge pins and there is a hole in the rudder that is in the correct postition. So if these holes are for painting, which makes sense, why are some in the correct location and some are not.

AMERICO, that was a very nice job both on the video and the assembly with mod's. Nice airbrush winter camo. Looks like she flys great. What happened on that landing? couldn't find the brakes? LOL. I enjoyed it. Will start to assemble mine in about another 3 weeks. The threads and advice have been food for thought. I also have the Canons and I want to go Gas W/ Rear carb. Thinking about 28 to 30cc's.

RE: KMP Stuka-build details
I'm waiting on my YD-28cc to be released from customs. Should be here by Christmas. I went with the new YD-28cc because I am going to mount the two tank buster canons and the extra HP will help fight the drag. By the way, these canons are really a nice looking pair. I put them together and dream about how great they will look mounted under the wings. Plus I wont see that set up at the feild for a while. All my club members who have seen them just FLIP! Way to go ESM.

Really nice job Americo! You got the Magictouch man. Do you plan on posting any videos of your Stuka flying with the Canons mounted? I really enjoyed the last videos you posted. It's been so cold with snow and lot's of rain here in the mountains of West Virginia, that I don't get the chance to do much but work on my planes. Almost finished with my ME-109. THEN I start on the Stuka. Should have my YD-28cc for herin the mail soon. I keep looking forward to all the post you guys make on your assemblys and mods. Seasons Greetings to all of you and the best new year of flying! Tony.

Hi Americo! Hope you had a great Christmas and will have a great New Year. The truck just delivered my RCAero 28cc engine that I plan to put on my ESM Stuka. I have had enough of this snow up here in the mountains so NOWINTERCOLORS for me. LOL. The pictures of you P-47 are sweet! Thought you might enjoy seeing some of my birds as well. The P-47 is a CMP 74 inch model with a 26cc gas engine. Just fiinished painting her using automotive paint. Still have to do the cowel once I cut out exsaust and air ports. I really like your lathe. It's just what I need [We always NEED somthing], at least that's what my wife says [grin]. Would like to see some more of your work if you can post some pictures.Tony.
