Hi,
LGB makes a good grease for gears on their trains, so it will not hurt plastic parts and can be bought at most model train stores or on the net.

I use plastic bulletin board pins as a drift pin tap it with a small hammer and once they are driven out a quater of an inch or so use pliers

For taking photos you can use baking soda for snow just dust it on, when finished turn the tank upside down dust it off no harm done use it over and over. I also use it on my O gauge trains
