Ooh I'm getting excited. Final payment made through PayPal, so assuming no hitches at IH, should be with me soon
Just have to clear some space for it. I have a bench somewhere, but it is under a load of junk and stuff[:@].
Rudder servo, pipe and profilm will have to wait til next month, I'm trying to keep my monthly spend under £250. It is hard, very hard. [

Nearly figured out what i am getting.................
Definitely JR 8511 on elevator and rudder, then
either the Futaba S9402 or the Hitec HS 5925, or 5945 on the ailerons.

HITEC !! i thought you had more sence.
as for the elivator, 1 good servo is the way to go, unless malc has managed to get the 2 elivator sevos in EXACTLY the same place either side (not one ontop of other or one infront of other) as the geometry will be imposible to sort and the elevators wont follow eachother faithfully!!
Use the force Luke........... go JR for servos

Boy
I disagree.... 2 servos is better but as you say ONLY if you can get the geo right...
Im pleased to say that thanks to good old ACAD and a bit of arm twisting we have two identically positioned servo bays on each side, pre cut and drilled for the screws.
They are symetrically positioned in front of the tailplane on the centre line.
I prefer this method of direct drive, but only since the holes are positioned mathmatically and there is no guess work.
However, the kit provides internal mounts as an alternative so you are not obliged to go the outside route
Luke
Leave the Hitecs alone for goodness sake !

So the hitec 5945 is not to be trusted hey! I did a search here on product guide for 5945 and the jr 8411 and it seems most had a love for the hitec and disliked the jr. I don't know who to believe.
I am dreadin' the day when my 140 is delivered, cause I'm gonna have to build the dam thing, yuk.

Kit [sm=sunsmiley.gif]
You know what you have got with a kit. Can't stand BARFs on the whole. No sense of satisfaction.
Archie, which servo you using on the rudder then?

I was being sarcastic about getting hitecs btw[8D]
Im staying well away from them.
I stuck on the fence at the moment between The Boys and Archies recommendations. My instincts tell me to go JR, BUT,
Just found a cracking deal in the US on those futabas,,,,where the currency change makes them £44 each.
But my flying is probably not good enough anyway to tell the difference bettween the two set-ups...........
The majestic/high society i flew a while ago (thanks to stuart once again) had futaba coreless all round, with 2 servos in tail, and flew very accurately indeed, but so did The Boys capiche at the freestyle comp.

this is only what i have seen, so i really dont have a clue! How many BIG 33%+ planes do you see with those futabas in them, i havent seen any on RCU (or i cant remember them), but how many do you see with 8411s? Loads, either 8411s or hitecs (tho i did once see a guy using loads of 3001s[X(])!

Rudder - At the moment I am considering the 9350.
Edible... what do you think CPLR uses on his TOC !? Yup Futaba.
If its good enough for him I dare say it will do for me...
140ex is designed to go pull pull on the rudder, with a choice of DD each side on elev or use on with a pushrod if you prefer.
I will be going for one each side.
IH may do some deals on Fut servos ? worth asking when you get the kit..

Thanks Archie
I do like to get the servos as close to the flying surfaces as possible. I hate long pushrods and snakes for that matter. Have you ever had issues with radio interference from closed loop systems, as I have had in the past.
I had a plane which repeatedly lost radio contact due to signal blocking of the receiver when steel wires run parallel to the fuse and Ariel. Changing to rudder servo in tail cured the problem many tubes of epoxy later.
I don't understand too much of the theory behind RF signals but just concerned about the life expectancy of my new (expensive) bird.

.I have been looking on RCU about the Hitec servos, seems plenty of people using them without issues. there is even a current thread on them here in the 3D forum.

I feel to chime in here. I like Futaba radios more than anybody. I have had a few Jr's and cant get on with them too well but when it comes to high end servos nothing in my opinion come close to the JR 8411 and 8511. Don't get me wrong I love Futaba core less servos (9402) is my particular favorite but my experience with Futaba Digitals has been really disappointing. A good example will be the Boy's electric Capiche 140. He had a Futaba digi on the elevator of his 140. twice during flying the elevator blew back on him. Once was at the bottom of a vertical wall (Not nice) Anyway once a 8411 went in place no more signs of blow back and solid elevator response every time.
I think the CPLR example is particularly valid here as on his 42% + Extra at 3m span and full length ailerons he uses six Futaba digitals to get the response he needs where as the JR pilots all use 4 servos . what does this tell you?

Do you then think Ali that two futaba 8.7kg s9451 would be strong enough for each one controlling each elevator half without this blowback?
The specs on the flycapiche website say he was using a single 8 kg 9402 on the elevator. Twice the strength should be enoug surely?

Luke, I think this should be fine but you could always go with one JR 8411. Less weight less current consumption which means less battery which means even less weight. Sorry but I was mistaken it was a 9402 that was on the elec capiche. Not a digital as a mentioned..
The thing I really like about the JR's is that they really do pull what they claim. every Futaba Digital that I have had in the past (and I have had a few) never seemed to have the pull that they claimed. Now I am probably opening myself up to a toasting here by some technical boffin that will prove me wrong but it is just my personal experience.
