Just had an interesting phone call to MR weston uk re; the genesis proflex system.
Apparently, this silencing system is custom made for your model. They want you to take the whole fuselage in with the engine on and the cowl on so that they can make an exhaust that fills up every inch of space available for maximum noise reduction. They are reluctant to make the silencer to dimensions given over the phone, saying that the end result won't be as good, and they say they will take no reponsibility if it doesnt fit the plane.
They say that you may need to leave the fuz with them for a couple of weeks
The say that the price including their special manifold and custom fitting USUALLY comes in at around £80.
As far as silencing goes, he has no idea how it compares to the hatori pipes, and he refused to give a reading on noise levels, saying that this greatly depended on prop combination/ mount/ model e.t.c.
He did however say that it was very quiet ( comprising of three chambers), and that he had a customer that was very pleased with this system.
He also said that if i could take my 140ex in, get the custom silencer, he would keep the measurements ready for other c140ex owners also wishing to purchase the system. He said that the manifold length would however differ from engine to engine. He did however say that the manifold could be ordered oversized, and then cut down to the right length by the customer.

And that seems likely does it Luke? Not questioning his silenceing system for one moment, but I am questioning whether you'd be willing to let this beauty out of your hands for a fortnight.
Bearing in mind how long you've waited to get your hands on it, and then you lovingly build it, spend hours and hours gently caressing it's every curve with fine sandpaper till you've got a finish that Leonardo da Vinci would be proud of, then you cover it and fit your engine and radio and then he expects you to give it to someone else for a couple of weeks before you fly it whilst they hack it about to fit the silencer in it? Like you could bear to be parted from it for even a moment?
Actually thinking about it again, please do it. At least then he'll have the dimensions if we want to buy the system and we won't have to be parted from ours. No, good idea you give him yours and let us know how it goes.

Ok so the Weston silencer option is out of the window. Suppose that makes it a bit easier, choice of only 2. So is it going to be a Just engines pipe or a Hatori in cowl from probuild?

Sprink. I have had hands on on the weston firewall pipe and it looked pretty good but didnt get a chance to run it[:@] Simon needed it back PDQ.
What does the Hatori one look like??? Never seen it!
I am going to do a little sketch for Kev T so he can mod to fit a pipe tunnel. The idea in my head is simple (a bit like me)
If it works I will make a mini drawing!!
Which you can have

Just been having a look at possibly doing a pipe tunnel myself. Unfortunately the justengines pipe is 52mm diameter, which means that it is immensely big when compared to the slender 35mm of the Hatori 698 pipe that probuild do. Looks like it is going to be a viable option to make a pipe tunnel to fit the thinner hatori but not the J'en one.
Unfortunately the hatori 698 is £115 when compared to the Just engines £40[:@]
ive got even more saving to do!

What I have in mind will be a cut and shut AFTER the basic fuz is finished and will be based on the Hattori. To have made it an option from the start would have severely hampered the fuz build So you can carry on building

I am assuming that if I bought a C140, getting a YS from the states would be cheaper? So far alot of rc stuff in the states has been cheaper. Even when adding shipping costs.

Ive got a remote switch pressure valve for smoke to drive of YS tank pressure too !

Hatori do four versions of their in cowl silencer, two for inverted two for side mounted.
Follow this link http://www.hatori-models.co.jp/htdoc..._e/a4_1_f.html
Shows the YS 63 versions as well. I would go for the 929 this time.
The smoke refers more to the manifold, it has a nipple on it to inject the gas.
So Archie, is IH getting these?

. I assumed I would at least need to cut a hole in F1 before assembling the fus. I have ordered a 140sport with the hattori header and #698 exhaust so that should all be fine. I also ordered the gator mount - looked at the Hyde ARI but $220 vs $37 - I just couldn't justify it.

Ooh you wait till Simon sees that when he gets home from work, he'll definitely want one. Any idea where to get one Archie? Website would be good.

We will I thionk get some of those mounts and the ahttori systems...
Ive been looking at them and unless Im looking at it wonky,
I dont understand...929 looks like wrong orientation to me... if the engine is inverted the connection pipe is on the wrong side -
928 looks like the right one...
what do you think.?

OK, the 929 mounts like the weston one, ie accross the plane. looking at the photo, imaging that you are looking at the underside of the plane, nose down. from the photo, the pipe pointing down attaches to the manifold, the pipe pointing towards you is the outlet.
Does make sense when you get yourself orientated. If you flip back to the weston photos, you should be able to work it out as it is the same set up.

Well after the flying got rained off yesterday
spent a good six hours on the C140 working on the fuz. Got a bit carried away and didnt get home till half nine. Good thing both the parents and the girlfriend are away at the moment.
Anyway the fuz is comeing along nicely. Whole fuz glued. Rear sheeting done, and half the front sheeting done. Engine box and landing gear plate mounted, with blind nuts inserted. Looking good. Only glued myself to it a few times, and only twice badly enough I had to cut myself off [&:].
