What an observant chap you are Ultimate. [:-]
OK, we wanted to mount the elveator servo upside down and the rudder servo right way up on the servo mounting plate. Only problem with that was with them both sitting on the SM plate, the line from the centre of the ele horn hit the back of the upside down rudder servo. So we put spacers in to lift both servos up to give us the clearance we needed. Cyano'd in a 1/4 liteply spacer plate for the ele servo that you can see in the pic, but rather than cyano the 3/8 rudder spacer in, we've screwed it in from this side so that in the event that we need to get it out for adjustment or whatever, we don't have to take the canopy off to get to it. So the rudder servo is screwed to a 3/8 liteply plate which is in turn screwed from the other side to the servo mounting plate and that's the screw heads you can see there. Sounds much more complicated than it is in practice
Oh and yes, before you ask we did use left hand screws to counter the engine torque

Stratman just for you
Make sure you lock the clevice solid this end and adjust from canopy end.
Drip some thin cyano in the thread.
The linkage shown is a Pete tindal 3mm on a 6mm carbon rod

Baron,
That is the exact system we have used. Always good ta see that you're learning
Ultimate,
Yes there will be a hatch underneath to allow access to the servos and to join the wings once they are plugged in using a cable tie.
Archie,
The engine mount we decided on in the end was a standard heavy duty nylon/glass filled one, but we added the Mick Reeves soft mounts to it. It worked fine when I had the engine in my Ultimate so we'll see....
It should be ready for its maiden flight this weekend, if I can keep out of the pub that is
All the covering is now finished apart from decals which should be done tonight, then its just engine, hatch, U/C and connecting the servos up. YIPPIE!!!!

I'll post and email some pics tonight when the covering and graphics are all done.
Just out of interest, can you profilm the cowl? will it stick? Yes I know I could just go and try it but I thought i'd ask first. I can't really paint it as its pearl purple and I will never find a good match.
Funnily enough Archie, my shock flyer should be here tomorrow, but i'll have to hide it so I don't start that before I get the C140 done.

No not profilm. The heat will deform the cowl[:@]
You can use protrim!!! but if memory serves Perkins do not import pearl purple in trim. Only film?
I found a ford Pearl purple "Holts" metalic spray thats pretty close though you will have to proof it.
Forgot love that shot down the fuzz. As Arch says looks like a Japanese lobby

is perl purple the stuff on the cougar? i really like that colour.
That staple ide is very clever. So will that mean there is no visible elevator linkages, the elevator will just move (like in a sim)?

ailervator, that sounds brilliant! Didnt archie want 2 servos? but you asll thought he was mad cos of all the weight at the backend?!
Also, was anybody ever thort of putting a petrol engine in this plane. Chip hydes capX and DV apparently fly very well on a DA50. do if this is a simular size, lighter plane surly you could use one? As petrols use less fuel you could have a smaller tank and fit a pete tindal smoke system? they look awesome!

A DA50 is 50 cc, a 300 is about 47cc? so lets say a YS 140 is 24 cc. A DA50 would be overkill.
But I have probably done the above guesstimating wrong
So I reckon that a DA50 would be a bit much but if it fits....
There are smaller petrol engines, but small petrol engines arnt as good as simular sized glows. Only when you get into big glows like OS Gemini 300s and radials petrols are cheaper and better.
Again I may be wrong...[&:]

Zep P. No I agree with you. A DA 50 would destroy this model inside 3 flights maybe less. Ian (err eddy) think what you are saying!!! Target weight is between 9 and 10 lbs
I havent even bothered to see the weights of a DA 50. ITS to big!!!

Got a bit distracted tonight seeing Arsenal lose he he.
Finished of the tail plane and elevators and this is the end result. Didn't get a chance to do the graphics but they will be next.
Just a little taster of the design and colour scheme so far. The front of the fuz and wings look even better, but you'll have to wait for those.
Thanks for the info about the paint. I might pop to Halfords and pick up a tin, unless you know anywhere better.
Thanks
Simon

if your weight comes out to 9-10 lbs, you could use the much cheaper ys 110 and you would still have unlimited vertical, it would weigh less and eat less fuel

The only reason i said about a DA50 i cos chip hydes models flew with them, they are simular size and a bit heavier. Just a queery...........
