If the C140 comes out at 16lb, you would need the DA 50 [:@].
You would also have to run fast or the Baron would be trying to prove that banging your head against a wall does use 150 calories

My Capiche is all finished and ready to go for its maiden flight tomorrow lunchtime.
All up weight (even with a huge subC NIcad) is exactly 10lbs.
With a Saito 180 up front it should be awesome.
I will post some pics tomorrow morning when the sun comes out and the cowl has fully dried.
Lets hope all goes well tomorrow[X(]

Just a couple of little jobs to do this morning and it's now ALL FINISHED. We're now off flying. Here's a couple of pics of the finished plane. More to follow later. Hope you like it though to be honest we don't really care what you thinkl 'cos we think it's superb.

EE, it's not the colour scheme that makes it look huge, it IS huge. Too big to fit in any of our cars, so Simon has to persuade his boss to let him borrow the company minibus to transport it in. The fus is 84 inches spinner to rudder - you try fitting that in a normal car.
First flight was good, a bit of a non event really. She flew really nicely but the maiden was curtailed by the engine sounding a bit sick (Saito 180 not been run for 9 mths) so Simon brought her in for a precautionary landing after only 3 or 4 circuits for a perfect greaser of a landing, really nice and slow. Then we couldn't resolve the engine problem so called it a day. Next flight will be in two weeks time so we'll let you know how she goes then.
I did get most of the flight on video and once I work out how to download it will let you all see it.
Great model though, and her presence ion the air has to be seen to be believed.
Out of interest how many of you have bought one and are actually building at the moment?

Mines coming along slowly. Well into covering the wings now.
Colin/Simon, where does the extra 5 1/2 inches come from in the Fuz? I thought this was supposed to be a 2 metre plane (78 1/2 inches). So no pattern cometition with this baby then [

Hmmmmm, but if its not 2m X 2m, then it won't fit in a 2m X 2m box, therefore you can't enter it into a pattern comp. Gah I am as confused as hell now...

No rudder and engine not mounted yet, so cant measure tip to tip yet [&:]. May not fit in my Imprezza at all afterall. Looks like I'll have to get a Passat then [X(].
Tops of wings and ailerons now covered, though detailing not yet done. Started on putting together the sheeting for the underneath.

Oops sorry chaps if I've got you all worrying, must have measured it wrong. Just checked it again and the overall length of the fus, spinner to back of rudder is 811/2 inches or 2072mm.
Now that is still a bit over the 2 metres that Zep mentioned, but bearing in mind we're using a Saito 180 and have got the engine sitting a little forward from the firewall, I reckon we could push it back another 10mm, but that'd be about it. The Saito is a rear induction engine and if you're using a front induction engine (what are the YS's I've got no idea) you could save a total of 50mm from the backplate of the engine to the firewall. So you still need to get 22mm from somewhere, or maybe YS's are shorter?? I've got no idea. For measuring purposes, can you take off the spinner? If so that'd do it 'cos our spinner is 32mm from the end of the crankshaft to the tip of the spinner. But that's assuming you can butt the front induction engine right up to the firewall.
It's going to be close. Very close.
If this measurement is important to to you, then I'd suggest you think about it carefully before finishing the model. Maybe chop a bit off the rudder?

I would have thought the easiest way to reduce the fuzz length would be to reduce the length of the motor box, and shorten the cowl as necessary

I checked the website, it says 2m X 2m, for FAI F3A competion or 3D and Artistic.
I say we ask Baron or Archie. The test models had YS140s tho, and colin you seem to be using a Saito 180 so that may explain things...

Ahh but I know Baron's on holiday so won't see it Ultimate.
I think you're probably right though about cutting down the length on the engine box. That seems the best solution unless you've already built it. Mind you even if you have, it's not too difficult to carefully cut the firewall off the E\B and re fix it further inboard.
Cowl's not a problem it'll just slide over the fus a bit further. Dead easy.
So if you're planning on competing with the Capiche 140, I'd suggest you check your measurements before building. Are the YS engine's shorter than the our Saito 180? The Saito measures about 190mm from the tip of the crankshaft to the rear of the carb, but from the front of the spinner to the back of the carb is 210mm.

Would have thougth that the YS is as long. Rear induction as well. Also if using a soft mount like me, then that will push it even further forward.
F3A spinners are very short for this reason

Sprink what mount are you using? IH recommended the Weston one to Simon so he bought it then the Baron suggested that it wasn't the right one so Simon ended up with a standard glass filled mount and Mick Reeves soft mount grommets through the mounting bolts. But we'd be interestded to here what you're using.

if there is 32 mm diference from the tip of crankshaft to the inside of the spinner cone, your spinner is too long. i would check truturn.com as they have some very short fai spinners most likely in your size. you could certainly cut off some length there.
