The email was about 1mb - you should have had it but we get lots of bounced mails from the newsletter distribution...mixture of wrong addresses, email account full, and accounts sets up to reject mails with attachments !
email [email protected] and it will be sent to you again by return email...
Baron... still waiting for my Aquila !....

Hi Guys,
Someone, I can't remember who mentioned that they originally had a Hatori Pipe for their YS 140 which they swapped out for a Weston Muffler.
Is anyone interested in doing a similar muffler swap? I've got the Weston flexi header and Muffler fitted to my Capiche (YS 140DZ) and need to swap it out for a Hatori Header and Pipe. Reason being that I just can't get the noise down to our club's very strictly enforced[
] 82db limit. The Weston is exactly same as that fitted to the Malcolm's Capiche - pics on this thread - I'vwill include two iso mounts for the weston muffler to firewall.
I'm writing this from work so if anyone's interested you'll need to email me at [email protected]
Thanks
Dave

Dave mine is on a 140L and is good to go. The DZ's seem to have loads more grunt and obvioiusly more noise [:@]
Do the two outlets have inner "Genesis" pipes? and what prop are you running. I have a feeling you will still have trouble with the Hattori.

Malcolm,
Yes, the weston muffler has the inner 'genesis' pipes.
I'm running 16.5 x 12 and will try 17 x 12 or 17 x 13. The thing is that the I'm still at around 86+ with this set-up - each 3db represents a 100% increase or decrease in audio power. Noise seems to be predominantly low pitched muffler roar over which it's impossible to hear any prop tip noise. Short of either grossly overpropping the engine to peak at silly low revs or swapping out the muffler, I don't see where else a 4+dB drop is going to come from. The weston is iso mounted on the firewall, the DZ is on a Hyde ARI, prop is balanced and correct....what else?
Billy Bunter is running the DZ on same fuel, same prop, same mount (ok, it's a different airframe) with the Hatori set-up and getting in nicely under the limit - seems to make some sense for me to try that route.

82 dB at what distance?
If i were you id just do a throttle mix. The 140DZ is reasonably quiet in the air anyway so your noise man wont notice. Ive never heard a Weston muffler but to have to drop 4dB is asking quite a lot.
Plus that growl or roar you hear you get off all DZ's, even the new 160.
Angus
ps i found the 16.5X12W quite noisy. Its actually almost identical blade width to a 16X12 (16.5" APC props are much narrower than 16 inch), so your 16.5X12 is really a narrow blade prop, less load, more noise. Try the 17X12 first but not 17X13 as it will over load it. If its still over on a 17X12 then id just throttle mix it.

put a carb sponge filter on (YS engines fire out a lot of induction noise) also being built up it acts like a drum (especialy if you have used chrome profilm) also "squeeze" some fuel tube on the axles to before the collets to keep the wheels snug up against the inner collet. (wheels can make a hell of a noise) also balance the prop!!
get it tested then make the mods and do it again, you will be plesantly surprised!!

Thought you guys might be interested in this seeing as the discussion we had a few pages back. Dad distilled some Coolpower Heli 30 in his lab and came up with the following:
23% oil by volume
25.2% oil by weight
So as the guys said in the pattern and YS page, it is perfect for YS engines.

Yes he could do it with pro synth but we dont have any. Im sure he would be more than happy to do it if you sent us up a gallon
Dead easy to do...apparently. Think ive done something myself in chemistry labs but it goes something like this:
Put 100ml Coolpower in conical flask on the bottom of a mini distillation column and heat up to just over 100degrees C (Nitro boils at 101 degrees C) Keep doing this and monitor the temp of distillate (the methanol and nitro coming off). Once the temp of distillate drops rapidly thats when all the nitro and methanol has come off and you're left with the oil. Measure volume of oil.
To get weight by volume you need to measure the weight of 100ml Coolpower and the weight of the oil after distillation. Then its just a simple ratio.

ps im 100% positive there was no whisky in the sample. Dad makes sure it all goes in his mouth!

I think there will be a problem doing this with Prosynth. you will end up with a higher reading than what is "true" oil as there is a large amount of antifreze in prosynth (judging by the colour!!
)
also the anti corosion eliment will be left in as will some cigar embers and an amount of bulls.... no, time to stop

Send me a gallon and il tell you
Could give it to one of my lecturers to do some GC, HPLC, UV, flame photometry, FT-IR and maybe even some NMR if i sweet talk them.

Angus, no need. I can do all that
the GC (General Conclusion) .....its sh1t
the HPLC (Helicopter Peoples Longer Combustion).......helis do fly for about 1.645% longer so we can give them that one
the UV (Ultra Vomit) ...... if you drink enough you will ultra vomit
the Flame Photometry.... yes it takes a lovely photo when on fire
the FT-IR (Financial Times Index Reading) ......shares are stable at about 1.3p
the NMR (Non Magnetic Resonance)...... it only has magnetic resonance after it has been put through an engine and worn most of the insides off.
if you want, I can discuss my findings further with your lecturer ( I may even be tempted to write a thesis)
Merry Xmas All

The Old Man Stephens, i dont think you can! I demand a gallon of pro-bulls@%t to test. Kidding.
Run em on Coolpower and your YS' will be forever thankfull. Its the difference between Glenfiddich and Margot. There is just no contest betweeen Coolpower and anything else.
Anyway, im off to bed before Sante comes. Merry Xmas Haggii fodder.

HEHE GOT IT!!!!!!!
cant wait to start running this great peice of kit.
My only gripe so far is that it will not fit into my current mount. Contrary to what ive read the engine is wider than the 140L, and will not just slide into the same place. A bit of grinding will be required(dont know if this will void warranty), or new engine mount.
