Joe you beat me to it and I agree, it sounds like a thrust issue.

BigNed, I remember a thread that you started some time ago about spoilerons (I think that was you). "You Can't Do Harriers", or something to that nature. I'm sorry to hear about your loss with that plane. It's usually not the money or even the build time that one loses, but the time that you spent getting familliar with and time spent on set-up, that hurts (sounds like Hallmark).

If the problem in hover that you mention continues predominately to the left, you may try to add a bit of right thrust to your motor mount, between mount and firewall.
The way that I can tell if my thrustline is true, is to enter a vertical ascend from level flight, at about 1/3 power and once the plane is vertical, add full power, semi-abruptly.
Watch closely, without any corrections on your part, to make sure that the aircraft tracks perfectly vertical. Repeat this several times to make 100% sure that aircraft tracks perfectly vertical and make adjustments until it does. Also, try Joe's prop suggestion. I would even venture to suggest an APC 14x4W. Heck, try both.

Another solution to tame an aircraft in a hover/TR, is to add yaw coupling for level rudder turn. Now I know that the principles don't seem to apply and may-a-pilot frown on surface coupling, however, I've actually tamed several aircraft in Hi-Alfalfa flight by applying yaw coupling.

Try the thrust thing first, 'cause it sounds like a sure fix, or will at least get you in the park, If you're this close to a controlled hover any little corrective thing you do to the plane will indeed help you.

And try to avoid breaking your head while doing this in windy conditions. That's later. When the wind starts to kick-up, stop trying and just fly around in a relaing manner.

ARRRRGGGHHH, you both beat me to it (gotta type a little faster, nothing 8hrs/day on RCU can't cure).

OK then try the prop and then the coupling and ultimately....GULP....I think you'll need more power (sorry).

BTW, where's your CG?

Yup, "You cant do Elevators? Try Spoilerons".. Spoilerons were a godsent for my elevators. That was a good thread.

OK I'll try the prop. Im not sure what you mean by yaw coupling though, can you explain that?

And I may try to sell my .91 and replace it with a Saito 100. Is this still the optimal engine for the U CAN DO, or has the concensus changed?

My CG is at 6" or just very slightly over.

Some guys went YS 110. Some went 120 and one guy went MVVS 1.6 gasser with pipe. I stuck with old faithfull, Saito 100 but now I just hung a 16/4 APC prop on it and am itchin to get out there. I also used some Ernst thrust plates from Quantum Models. Takes all the guess work out of it and the different sizes are good for up/down thrust as well. BTW 1/8" is roughly 3 degrees. Joe

PS on the engine swap you are going to save a few oz. and realize alot more power. Swinging larger diameter props translates to more wash over the control surfaces = more control.

Good thread alright, however, did'nt work on my Flip

BigNed, my UCD had a Saito 1.80 for power (here we go), so I could'nt quite tell you if that's the optimal motor. Many liked the OS.91 as well. User preferance, I guess.

"Yaw Coupling": Fly yer plane straight and level, at about 1/2 power & 2mistakes-hi. Add rudder only to turn (either direction). Carefully observe aircrafts tendencies (pitch and roll). Land. Make corrections within your Tx mixes. Fly again, observe again, land again, correct again.

Continue to add mixes 'till she tracks pretty true thru a rudder turn, in both directions. Then check KE flight.

**Note: regardless of what you do, chances are, aircraft will never fly a level rudder turn with full rudder deflection, so don't break your head. 2/3 rudder imput is more than sufficient.

I'm gonna get soooo fired, if I don't get back to work...

Johnny, nicely done. The only problem between the languages is that a carefully constructed sentence does not necessarily fall in that order when translated. I'm sure he got your sentiments. Joe

OK there Voil?, John Wayne, goodbye or whoever you are now, you tried to set me up. You baited me looking for a negative response.
Here is the scene. I'm in U Can Do 60 thread in this forum the other day and when step by step got locked (which I was not aware of at the time) IT comes in yelling something about not answering. Someone asked if the UCD thread was locked and I responded with not to try to figure IT out. So in steps this french guy, Voil? and responds to my post with this. "Instead I think Italian Flyer is very intellegent and funny. I'm glad I did not answer. Later, I see step by step-2 run by this Voil? guy from France, as it progresses, the authors name keeps changing. Now its "good bye". What gives? Joe

Yeah Joe, that's where I always lose the translation. I once had a professor tell me that I must often think "backwards" when constructing a translated sentence. But he further explained that once I've reversed the thought, I must reverse it once more before writing or speaking. That's when I always loose it. But thanks.

NEway, this is what was intended: Vittorio, my Italian is very bad, but I'll try.

Many people on your other thread tried to help, but in your translations, you would use insulting words, such as "unintelligent" and then you would make jokes of the american country and it's heritage

People who are trying to help don't like to hear that.

Your new approach, at the beginning of this thread was good and that is why I replied to your question.

I hope that you can understand my bad Italiano language and I hope that you can understand what I am trying to let you know.

Vittorio, your gullible opinions on NASA are fine and dandy (!), but for the sake of these 3D beginners, whoever they may be, let's keep on topic. Although personally, I think our 3D beginners are ok now, so why not try posting on other topics and widen your scope on 3D?
