The UCD3D is an extremely easy to hover airplane. It got a little squirrelly as I was lowering it to my buddy, thats all, then again maybe it was just nerves :stupid: ah well it was fun anyway!

OK its time. Should I get the UCD3D w/YS 90 or the new Aeroworks profile arf w/ Moki2.10 ?
The 2nd would cost a bit more but I just wonder which one I'd be happier with overall ??

John,
If you don't mind a kit build, look at the giant OMP Edge for $175 with that Moki 2.1. I have seen it fly and it is awesome with that combo. I think it smokes my UCD for 3D capability. I'm getting the same combo myself!
I know I would have been happy going that way.

Capt,
I just got to see it fly several times. The guy had it out for the maiden flight and put 1 tank of fuel through the brand new Moki on the ground and then flew. I was impressed enough that I ordered one myself. Here is his thread: http://www.rcuniverse.com/showthread...ighlight=jeide

Dale: That sure is a nice looking plane. I wonder if a small gasser would work on one? Like a 33cc Homelite gas? If it worked it would be fun and easy on fuel! Thanks CaptinJohn

Capt,
I think the 33cc would be heavier, but the plane could probably handle it. I am not sure the power would be what you want though. Since the Moki can run FAI fuel just fine, I was not too worried about the fuel costs and with a 24oz (I think) tank, Jim was getting plenty of flight time. Since you are hardly ever at full throttle, you don't use a whole lot of fuel for a 15m flight. Hope mine comes this week!!

Dale,
Honestly, I'd rather have the OMP Edge(I like the Edge over the Extra) but its taken me months alone to build a little Sig Wonder kit ! It's just hard for me to find the time/energy in the evenings to work on a kit. With that said I'm sure the AW Extra 300 profile ARF will still take me 20+ hours to finalize BUT there is definitely a greater "stoke" factor when putting together a giant profile ARF !
I know people routinely put gas on the AW profile kit but Im not sure the AW ARF would be very easy to modify. The ZDZ 40cc engine looks interesting as the power is almost indentical to the Moki 2.10 but weighs in , from what I can tell, exactly 1 lb more.
The ZDZ , I think would fly any of the giant profiles (Morris, AW,OMP) real well of course I'd like to know just how the weight difference affects the flight performance. I dont know.
Also, wouldnt the gasser use a smaller tank vs the glow engine for the same flight time ?

John,
True on the weight of the gasser probably not being a problem on an 80" airframe. However, every bit you can lighten the wing loading helps and I didn't want to spend more on the gas although now that I look, it only ends up being about $70 more expensive. I just know what I saw and I liked it!
I don't think the tank really is too much of an issue either because it looked to me that you could probably get away with a 12oz tank and still have good flight time - you just are not on the throttle except to pull vertical.
I am sure the Aeroworks Extra will be fun and fly well, I just have not seen it fly.

Thats the way I felt when I saw a friends Moki 2.1 powered Sig Extra 300 arf. The biggest plane I own is a 4 Star 60 w/OS60 so Im looking forward to this.
Heres young NATS Masters champ Andrew Jesky TR'n one.
I guess I am rolling the dicethat AW's profile arf is going to be of decent quality.

Just picked one up at lhs and i must say this bird has one of the best covering jobs i have ever seen on any plane. I cant believe how that monocoate shines and there have been no wrinkles at all to tighten up. Planning on using a YS91 on 30% magnum fuel DZ blend on mine. I debated for months on this plane glad i got it now. Just my 2 cents worth Bruce Also picked thid bird up for 174 at my lhs

Bruce,
Dang you got lucky. The covering on mine looked like a slept in bed and still tends to sag after being shrunk 2 or 3 times in some areas. Have fun with it......

There was a thread about broken CA hinges on the UCD. Check it out at: http://www.rcuniverse.com/showthread...33&forumid=230
Maybe Mecam and myself were the only ones with this problem, but I broke a CA rudder hinge, then a CA elevator hinge, then three CA aileron hinges within the first 20 flights. I'm now using Klett and Great Planes "doorhinge" type hinges on my UCD, with no more problems.
But despite the CA hinge problem, I really like my UCD! With a ST 90 w/MCP, this plane is a blast to fly!!

I just updated my ucando review in the magazine here and then came to read this....one of the things I noted was that the covering on the fuse wrinkled a bit sitting in my basement (cold down there). It tightened up with some help from an iron though at least for now.
I have not experienced any hinge failure. When your hinges failed did they all rip or just pull out intact?
Also in my update...it's as fun as ever to fly and now I have to wait for warmer days here in jersey to get some more time on it and play with the CG! Time to move to florida or arizona!
