use a saito 100 withan APC 15X6 prop , It will have unlimited vertical. Also start out with about a 1/16 inch washer behind the right side motor mount (as your looking at the plane) to account for right thrust. While climbing vertical , What the characteristics of the plane on which way it pulls and you can move your spacing around to account for this. This makes this plane a very good plane to practice hovering.

Great, so you guys fly with the YS 1.10 in your 60? and you like it allot, can you pull out of a hover at a pretty good pace? And can the YS 1.10 fit on the stock engine mount, or does this involve changing the blind nut positions on the firewall to fit a bigger engine mount? Also just to make sure that the YS 1.10 engine we are talking about, is the new YS FZ-110 that took place of the 91 correct? also whats the street price around this engine, i saw on one sight it was $323.87 does that sound about right? thanks

Thats the price and it will fit the stock engine mount. It requires 4 degrees right thrust. I drill the mount and tap them out and simply screw the engine mount screws into the mount arms eliminating any locking nuts. Holds fast and will never vibrate out. My UCD .60 weighs 8# 6.4 oz. and will hang @ 1/4 to 1/3rd throttle with a 16/6 APC. That leaves 2/3rds throttle range for pull out. With the pressurized system you get the option of placing the tank on the CG. The only place to be. Nice part is, once seated and dialed in correctly, you will have THE most hassle free, dependable engine out there. Fuel, start, fly. Check out the YS Club thread in 3D flying. There's lots of good info and great people willing to help. Good luck, Joe

I just wanted to say I had been asking people about harrier and the ucd 60. I finally got it. I put a 17x4W apc prop on my ucd 60 with ys 1.10 (5.5 cg) and it flew like a different plane!!! I had been flying 16x4W and 16x6. My least favorite was the 16x6 as it just seemed to be wiggly in 3d. The 16x4 seemed to be under proped and I was getting 10,500 rpms with it. I did not tack the 17x4W, but, it was amazing in flight. The hover would set in and I could just hold it forever. I got into a harrier having nevered harriered before (used full spoileron mix tied to elevator) and I was able to just drive it around with my rudder like a car. Could go higher, lower, staight.. ANYTHING. LIke a dream. Went up one end of the runway and turned around and came back down the other in harrier the full time. I am not saying I am a great flyer b/c.. I am not.. it was really like driving a car.. EASY!!
I biffed the landing and ate the prop... Very next flight I put the 16x6 on it and could barely hang it!! What is up with that!! I was in the process of doing an elavator wiggling around with the 16x6 and my engine died and I biffed the whole front of the plane.. could not get it out of the stall fast enough.
Has anyone else had this much of a radical change in 3d characteristics with the change of a prop? I am not posting this in regards to what cumn thru says with his combo. I was going to post and just read that. He seems to be very experienced and I really am not. I'm sure his combo works great. Makes me wonder though if you have tried the 17x4W cumn thru and what you thought of it (if you like the 16x6 better). and I would be curious if anyone else has tried this too (17x4w).. AMAZING.

c016Y, you have just lit the fire. I have a 17/4 APC sitting on my balancer for two months now and just never got around to completing the balance. I picked it up when I ordered the 16/4. After reading of your success, I will balance and install today with a test flight tonight, weather permitting. You may have found what I've been looking for, I just couldn't figure out what was lacking. Complacency=stagnation. Later, Joe
I forgot to mention, my condolences on your mishap. Now fix it and get back on that horse.

contempo.. had you flownt he 16x4W or the 16x6 apc props? Did you notice a big difference in stability from those and the 17x4W? Like... hover trying to fall out and a lot of twisting until you put the 17x4w prop? Basically.. I think the difference is I was getting the same pull at lower rpms and had less torquing? Is that possible?

Squirt, go to www.apcprop.com Good luck.
Speaking of the 17/4 prop, I finally finished balancing and got it on board. WHOA!!!!! Its like putting my truck in low range. I see what you mean about it settling right in to a harrier, even on low rates and will bite into a hover right off. Still, I see alot of stick time to get used to this. Everything is way different with a +. I'll get it back out tonight if the winds quit. Joe

Exactly.. it made my harriers easier too.. but.. I could not seem to ke spin and flat spin as well... or at least.. not in the usual way. I don't know if it was b/c I changed props or transmitters b/c I did them both at the same time, but, I thought I set my transmitters up the same. Let me know if you have this same side affect.
