I just bought this plane to get into gas power. I decided to go with a DA 50R for power, the engine is brand new, literally, it was on back order on Chief Aircraft.....Haha. My main questions involve the mounting of the engine. The DA includes a set of aluminum standoff mounts to mount the engine. I was wonder how you guys mounted this motor to the H9 Cap 232 80". I love this plane and cant wait to fly it, just gatta wait a little while because Chief forgot to put my muffler in the box to ship!! The invoice said 50 cc Muffler : DA , shipped and checked off. But guess what no muffler in the box,(no wonder this box was super light!!!) I need as much information/pictures as possible for this plane. Here is basically all the information I need for now.
1.How do you mount the DA 50 to this plane?
2. Do you use optical isolators?
3. What CG position do you reccomend?- i've read 6 1/2 inches for the leading edge but dont know for sure.
4. Dual tank setup or single tank setup?
5. Where would you mount the Ignition on the firewall?
6. Battery for the Ignition?
Thanks for any information that you can provide, anything helps ! Here are some pictures too for those of you who are curious about my situation!

I have this setup my self. I have 3 flights on mine and it is awesome! I used the recommended C.G. as of now but I believe I will push it back some to help with the 3-D. The stock stand offs are not long enough for the plane I had to get a set of 2.75 (I think they were but I'll check) ones from aerografix and the distance worked out perfect. I mounted my ignition under the piece of ply that runs to the top of the fire wall. and the battery is a 1400 mah NiMH. As for the fuel tank I used a single 20oz. tank. Also with the stock DA muffler you will have to cut a significant amount of the cowling to get it to clear. I used a slimline pitts muffle and it worked well but I still had to notch the bottom of the fire wall for it. I don't have optical isolators on the ignition just a regular MPI super switch.Oh you will also have to cut a hole in the fire wall to clear the carb. I will try to post some pictures of the setup as soon as I can. any more questions you have feel free to ask.

Thanks for the information! Cant wait for the pictures. You said you still had to cut out the firewall with the new Standoffs? I placed the motor up to the plane and everything cleared with the standoffs, but would see where you would need to cut out a little for the carb. how far off is the backplate of you spinner from the firewall? This is my first gas plane and am having a couple guys come over tomorrow to help me put this motor on and set it up. Hope i get it together before this next weekend. THanks again.

The factory stadoffs are too long that is why I had to order the new ones. You really dont have a lot of cowling to extend the enigine distance too much. as far as my distance it is 6 1/2 wich is what the manual calls for. the da is 3.75" long so a 2.75" stand off gets you to the recomended 6.5".

Put off the engine installation, a little to busy tonight but am planning to attach it tomorrow. My standoffs are 2.5" long and put my prop at 6 3/8" off the firewall(including spinner backplate). The cowl fits and has roughly 1/8 inch clearance from the spinner. It looks right to me but you are saying i need the 2.75" Standoffs? Would that small distance really manage to throw my plane off? How would it affect the plane? What size standoffs did your DA come with? Thanks
