RE: Great Planes Reactor 120-160?
I got my rebuilt Reactor with the new fuselage in the air today for one flight. After a gentle landing, the tiller arm on the tail wheel was bent, so the tail wheel assembly needs to be replaced. Do you guys have any recommendation of a good replacement? Weight isn't an issue since there is about 4oz of weight in the tail for balancing.

RE: Great Planes Reactor 120-160?
Ordering one tomorrow on Friday. I am going to use an OS160fx since that is what I have. It will be my sons plane for the most part.
We had the greatplanes Yak until yesterday when it fell from the sky due to a receiver battery failure.... Happy Canada day [:@]
This one is going to have a second receiver pack for redundancy like my bigger planes. After yesterday, I will never again run with a single receiver pack unless it is a little 40 size or something.
I figure this one will fly better due to the lighter wing loading than the Yak. Although the Yak flew great.
This airframe also gives us the oportunity to sneak a gasser into it later on when the budget recovers [8D]

RE: Great Planes Reactor 120-160?
Does anyone knows what muffler was used in the reactor manual for the DA 50 setup? I have both BCM and Slimline SL 2123 and they will not fit with 3" standoffs. There is a picture on the GreatPlanes Reactor page, and it looks like the numbers on the muffler are 2126. Slimline list this muffler as Moki 1.8-2.1? Will 2126 work with DA 50?

I used the Slimline pitts style muffler on my Reactor. It is very close to the firewall but it fit ok with out any modifications. REmember that you need to use 3" standoffs and 1/4" spacers to get the clearnace. It 1/4" spacers don't give you enough clearance than add another washer or two.
Thanks

RE: Great Planes Reactor 120-160?
Picked up the Reactor friday afternoon and did the maiden today.
This plane flies really really nice. I like it a lot. So does my 11 year old son...thank god. As this was the replacement for his destroyed Great Planes Yak54.
He really likes how he can fly it slower than the Yak.
I have not weighed it yet, I have to find a spot high enough to hang it from my digital fish scale. Oh yeah weight. That wing tube has gotta go [:'(] That thing is a weapon.
The plane is powered by an OS160fx which pulled the plane very well. Vertical was strong and went a long way before it ran out of steam.
Here are a couple photos of the Reactor and its proud pilot. I am currently processing a video I took of my son flying it for its second flight. I should have it posted online later today.

RE: Great Planes Reactor 120-160?
Well unfortunately I did a little damage to my Reactor on Sunday afternoon. Motor problems caused me to make a downwind landing that ended in a stall as I was about to run out of field so I hurt the left side gear, cracked the firewall, broke all but one canopy mounting tab, stripped out the gear on one of the aileron servos and stripped the composite horn on another, tore off the tailwheel mount, and last but not least bent an elevator pushrod...
Now I'll have to get my new 100cc up in the air...LOL

Sportflyer, sorry to hear about the damage. That seems to be my problem sometimes toolittle bit of damage caused by various problems(mostly my piloting) and keeping some flyable planes in the air! Picked my Reactor up last Saturday at Abell Hobbies; got the DL55 and digital servos and everything else (I hope!) ready, but gotta finish a couple other projects first before starting this one. Hope to have it in the air in a month or so...

RE: Great Planes Reactor 120-160?
Hi guys
I'm about to get this plane, and I'm not sure what engine i should get. I have the chance to choose between a DA 50, an Evolution 50 or the 58, obviously I want the 58 cuz it has more power but will it fit?, is it too heavy for the reactor?, should I go with the DA 50 or the Evo 50 if so, what engine is the better one?
Thanks in advance for any info
Sergio

58 will be overkill unless you live at 5000 ft above sea level.
The other problem with the 58 is weight and you might have problems with prop clearance. The 58 likes to swing a 24 inch prop.
As for the DA50 or the evo50, I couldn't tell you which is better. The Da has been around for a while and you know what you are getting.
Also consider warranty and service availability

Hi guys
Thanks for the info bdegan I'm definitely getting the DA 50, the plane looks like it's been built around this engine so I'm going with that,

sr-71,
Have you looked into a DL50/DL55? There is a big thread on it over in the Gas Engine Forum. It has been a very successful engine, and some DA50 owners prefer them over their DA50's. $410. I have two of them and am very happy with them.

I stick with originals.....THey never let me down.... It is like purchasing ping knock off's Golf Clubs.....
Sure they seem the same, but they never are.....
I think you were stating there are other options out there other than Brand X Which
was what was used in the GP manual.... I get it....
I just have always had issues with Copy right infringments.....
China doesn't have a problem with that....

RE: Great Planes Reactor 120-160?
Just flew my Reactor for the first time tonight, AWESOME! This plane tracks well and knife edges like a dream. I just got a couple quick flights in, but when I took the wings off, a wooden dowel fell out of my wing tube. The stock wing tube seems pretty strong, is this needed? Or should I try and glue it back in?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Is the dowl a ANTI-rotation pin??
I think that with ANY plane....Glue back in what falls out!....
Drip thin CA within the wings, and use polyester glue were you can get it...
If you need extra support, you can always use Milled fiberglass or microballons
with the CA, for gap filling ect...
I have had great results doing this approach... No noticeable wieght gain, and major strenth added....
I have owned planes that were suppost to fall apart (others had failures)
and mine stayed together

Anyway, I need your thoughts on removing the Robart hinge pins on one elevator half, so that the stabilizer can be slipped into the new fuselage. One way is to use a Dremel cut-off wheel to grind off the end of the hinge pin. But that would do a little damage to the balsa around it, since there is zero gap between the elevator and stabilizer. Any other ideas?
Sad in Minnesota,
Chuck

Not sure if you used epoxy or gorilla glue?? I would drip Aceton around the hinges and perhaps drill pin holes in to the hinges....
let it soak and try to pull apart........
You will never get the hing pins out any other way.... Believe me, I have tried when I used Gorrilla glue....nasty stuff...
OR cutt off the hinges and redrill the holes.....BUt I dont' think that is very much fun either...

Yes Glue it back in.
The wing tube is so thick and heavy ( The thing is a weapon ) That it probably wouldn't make a difference if you left it out. But Great planes stuck it in there for a reason. Better to be on the side of caution I guess. At least until you get a lighter carbon one

RE: Great Planes Reactor 120-160?
Hey guys
I really like how this plane looks and flies. Would a 43cc SPE motor be enough for this plane?? I have this motor on a 72" yak and it drags this plane around with ease. Total weight of this plane is 12.5 lbs.
Thanks
