From: Walled Lake, MI,
servos are just 3 hs-55's (rudder, elevator, and 1 for alierons), most people are running 8x720 nicads for batteries, 12x6 prop... for reciever just get one of the small hitechs. 555's are probably too big, but there are a couple other recievers that are a little smaller but more expensive. As for where you can get the razor, just go on google and do a search for razor 350. You'll probably end up with a jeti brushless controller, but I don't know the amp rating on it.

Looks WAY cool flash...
I just got my first finished, ready to maiden tomorrow. I'm only running the 5.33 gearing, and I only have 10x8 and 11x8 props, and furthermore I've only got a 7 cell 1000mah NIMH pack (weighs 36 grams MORE than the 8 cell 720), so I'm sure I won't have hover capability tomorrow, but my 8 cell 720's, 6.6 gearing, and 12x6 props will arrive from aeromicro on Monday or Tuesday.
Here's a pic... I was going for a sort of Cap, sort of Edge look. I think this one is uglier than a bucket of sphincters, but they'll get better...

I couldn't wait, so I test flew it in front of the house under the streetlamps. As I expected, it won't quite hover on the 10x8 prop, 5.33:1 gearing, and 7cell nimh pack. Almost hovers, but just a wee bit not enough. The 8 cell 720 pack (over a full ounce lighter than the 7 cell 1000 nimh pack in there now), the 6.6:1 gearing and the 12x8 prop will definitely put it over the top.
Aside from not being able to hover, the plane flew very well. Stable, slow, looped easily, both inside and outside. I didn't try knife edge in the limited space and light, so I don't know about any coupling issues yet. That'll wait til tomorrow.
I just hope I can sleep... I haven't been this excited in a good long while!

Sorry to go a little OT here, but how in the world do you post a video? I have compressed it and zipped it and it is still way too big for the attachment thing at the bottom. Do you have to post it on a website first, then supply a link?

Maiden flight......... AWESOME!!!!!!! Needed very little trimming out, and flew nice and straight. I am very pleased with it. It is truly incredible what can be done with this foam...... Looking forward to seeing what everyone else comes up with.

Dear Av8ter Tim,
You have created a totaly new platform of 3D,you are Gods gift to 3D entusiests, you are a freekin jeiniouse man ,you are my idle,i whorship you,if any bodys gona showum you'l showum,if any bodys EVER GONA SHOWUM Tim'l SHOWUM!!YEA!!! YEAAAA!!!THATS WRITE!!!!!!YOUR THE ____ MAN!!!!!
OK, let me cut the crap hear and get to the point.im seting up the Razor poly deal.i want to know if i need a 4.8v regulater or do i power everything with the E-Tec 3sell Poli direct.i think it would help every body out a lot if you could also draw a diagram of the components for us electric dummies.
I also saw a E-Tec 3sell poli that is combined in one single pack in serries.Iv read that the sells need to be charged indevidualy.is there a charger out there that will charge 3 sells in serries all in one charge. The new Poli bateries seems to be cousing the most confusion
fore us all.
For we are only dummies in this new Poly world and it is YOU, as our saviore we look to for guidence and courage in the long hard road to Fan Fold 3D stardome.

I flew the plane a bunch today, it's REALLY making me happy.
I have a question for you Tim... From what I've been reading here and on the ezone board, you run the GWS motor/gearbox on the 8 cell Sanyo 720 pack, and the Razor on LiPolys. Have you ever tried the Razor on the Sanyo 720's? Have you ever tried the GWS unit on LiPoly?
I'm thinking of grabbing the Razor350/Phoenix25 combo from Castle, but I won't be able to move to LiPoly for a month or two, so I'm hoping the Razor350 would work well with the 720 nimh pack... Or I could go to LiPoly now, then get the Razor in a while. Which would you upgrade first, or do you need to do both together?
By the way, THANKS for getting me going with this... I'm definitely having more fun than I have in a long time. I really can't wait til my 6.6 gearing and 720 nimh cells arrive. Flying on the 10x8 with 5.33 gearing and the 7 cell 100nimh pack the plane is an absolute blast, I know it'll only get better.

All these planes are looking great guys!
hroachen - Yes and yes. I have run pretty much all of the combos and they all work out very well. However, the GWS motors tend to burn out quicker on the 3s lipos.
tavis - No need for a seperate radio battery. Most electronic speed controllers (ESC's) have circuitry that eliminates the need for a seperate radio battery. It just runs off the motor battery.
See the comprehensive listing on page 4. It lists everything you need and where to get it at a good price. If you use the componants listed, it's pretty fool proof. No need realy for a schematic. Just make sure you always connect positive to positive, and negative to negative. The speed controller plugs into the throttle channel, it has leads that go to the motor, and leads that go to the battery. Everything else is the same as IC aiplanes, just smaller.
The 3 cells in series are charge as a single battery (all at once) 2 paralleled batteries (cell packs;3s2p) need to be charged as 2 batteries. www.b-p-p.com has a chrger that will charge 2 "packs" at once, but there is a 2 month waiting list for it.
I can't take the credit for creating this type of style or airplane type. Others have been doing it for quite a while. I have however been building with fan fold and building these types of planes for 2 years or so.

My Tribute on the 6th flight. The winds were insane, I could hardly keep it in my hand while I walked over to the lot. Sorry for the poor quality, enjoy.
BTW- how did you guys go about posting your videos, I am having some troubles.....

Ok guys I got the brush-less set-up except for the pinon gear. and I'm ready to start building.
What happen to all of you are you folks, are you all still flying your front yard 3d?

From: Walled Lake, MI,
Had an old sensored astroflight 020 brushless on it... wasn't paying close enough attention and accidently hooked the battery charger to the motor :-( So needless to say it went poof. So I ordered a new sensorless 020 with a 20 amp controller. For a gearbox I'm running a astroflight superbox with a 3.21:1 ratio. Flys like a bat out of hell with unlimited verticle. For the prop, I was running an 11x6 pusher, because I couldn't reverse the sensored motor and the gearbox reverses the prop shaft.

I think everyone jumped to RCForums web page. There are over 30 pages on Tim's design and it mirrors this forum.
Check out the www.rcforums.com link a few pages back to jump there.

Jon, it's www.rcgroups.com Here is a link directly to the thread:

I ordered some 6mm Depron from www.depronusa.com a few days ago. I'll be starting on the 40" Ultimate for the Hacker B20-15L next week. Should be flying by next weekend. I'll be building another 3DX out of 6mm Depron too. Should be much better than the Fan Fold foam.
Depron is much more rigid, and is about 30% lighter to boot. Until about a month ago, finding Depron in the USA was like looking for hen's teeth. We now have a good source as listed above. It doesn't work out ot be as cheap as the fan fold, but for the guys who can't get fan fold it's great news!

I've read that fanfold is hard to find here in Florida but the Lowes in Kissimmee, on 192, has it in stock. If there are any interested builders in the Orlando area, here is your source for blue fanfold. I picked up a pack and started to make my templates. The hobby shop is next for some electrics.
Thanks for the correction to the link Tim. I have it in favorites so its just a click away.
