Yeah Gary... You can find some great deals on the Bay.... And a lot
of the risk can be removed with good comm...
Nice pics and good flying people...
Well I'm going to install my trusty Mag 91 in the DO.. Then send the YS in
for repair(I think) I read some not so good stories about reworked
YS's.... So my last outing I took the 4* along with the profile... Man the
4* rolls slow:-)... But I still like to fly it and it stills hovers great, But it'll be
hanging for a while and may be reborn as a float plane..
Keep what ever side up and only touch the ground when you want too:-))

Guys... question...
My OS 70 II will not hover my U-Can.
Right now I'm on Cool Power 15% with an APC 14x4w. I'm running the Uni-Flow tank setup and it works like a dream. I have my CG at 6 1/2 " (yeah... I'm crazy). No tach, but I'm running audibly rich. No scale, but I built lightly, and this is my 15th plane or so, and my first ARF so I know what I'm doing.
I'm going to do some needle tinkering today to see if it helps.
I know I'm not going to get .91 Saito performance, but the .70 should AT LEAST hover the damn thing.
In a slight (and I mean SLIGHT) breeze I can back it up in a harrier, but as soon as the nose goes up I start to lose performance. I would think it was a leaning out problem, but the engine note never changes, the plane just tailslides and falls. I know my idle needle needs to be leaned out, but my high speed is where I always set it up.
Here's my question: I have seen and heard of people running the 30% heli fuel in their Saitos, but how well does it work with an OS? I was told at the LHS by a man who is far older and wiser than me that OS engines can get a little cranky above 20%. Anyone out there running 20+% in an OS 70 that can give me some feedback? I think the 30% would give me the power I need.
Setup:
U-Can 46
OS .70 II Surpass
APC 14x4w
Cool Power 15%
3100 mah Rx pack
Voltwatch
Field @ 750' ASL

Hey CeeGee,
I tell you you guys really make me jelous with your fields & Bjorngl's prison looks a heck of alot better than my prison. No flying here at the SPUD ranch except on the computer. We're in Georgia right now tomarrow we head on up to S.Carolina. I'm glad to hear everyone is doing well with thier UCD's mine is sitting lonely in a dark cool place in S.Fla. Well keep up the flying.
SPUDs lost somewhere in Georgia....

I agree. Too much prop. Maybe even a 13x4W. And 30% Nitro will help a lot. Also, dump the battery for one 2 ounces lighter.Put 4 flights on my UCD today. Weather was good for a change. Had a great time. Great waterfalls, and awesome flat spins. Even a pretty good hover or two. Did some good KE and I'm trying a little radio mix to improve them. As is not too bad.
Sorry Spud. Can I borrow you UCD to keep it from rusting up?
thanks,
Barry

Hello, this is my first post but I have been reading here for a while. I had a os 70 in my ucan and it does hover and will slowly pull out. I was running on 15% on a apc 14x4w, turned this prop fine up around 10k. I have since had a need for more power and got a saito 100
. Its still running a little rich but it seems to vibrate way more then the os did, do they all do this? But the power is unreal, hovers at half throttle and pulls out like a rocket.

Hey Barry,
If you could just swing by and take it out for a walk would be nice. It likes cool power 15% 4c for snacks. It spins a 15-4W on its nose if you throw it some of its snacks, & does tricks............loops and rolls to ya.
SPUDs out...........

welcome Beechtech!!!
i have a 100 and its a great engine, the more fuel you run through it the smoother it will idle and run.
how much fuel have you run through it so far? if more than a gallon you can lean her on down, i have mine at 1/2 turn out on the idle and just shy of 2 out on the high speed, youll love it once you get her tuned in, let me know how it goes, and there are a bunch of great and knowledgeble guys here so any more Q's just let us know
good luck

Welcome Beechtech, Glad to have you onboard. [8D] My UCD with a Saito 82 vibrates like crazy. It used to bug me but now I just think of it as raw, grass pounding, 3d power. This past weekend we had a fly-in and there were so many planes in the air. I think these things tend to vibrate more than most because there are so few ribs in the wings and the monokote rattles.[X(]
Spud, you gotta get back soon and fly that poor plane. Only thing sadder than a rusted UCD is one still in the box.........[&o]

Well... didn't get to make those needle adjustments yesterday. HotShot was dead, so no glow driver
. I think I'll try the 30% nitro first, them maybe go to a smaller prop. I like that huge windmill up there. Makes a great dive break
. Just FYI for anyone that wants to save a few bucks, any good race shop sells straight nitro. With a little math and even less time you can get some FAI 0%, add a little nitro, adjust the oil content for the added volume (my OS loves 18% all synthetic, after break in of course), and there you go... you have whatever nitro content you want for less. You guys probably already know this, but I thought I would lay it out there for anyone who doesn't.
I used to buy Mach7 12.5% Jet fuel, bump it up to 50%, and run it in an OS 91VRDF pusher mounted on a Combat Models F-16. Talk about FAST!!!![>:]

That's a great idea about the buying the Nitro from a race shop. And another side benefit would be that if you get your plane too low and almost crash and your heart starts to flutter, you can put a dose of Nitro under your tongue and stop the heart attack. Great idea! Thanks

I had to find something cheaper. The U-Can is my first plane (well... besides the Morris Knife) that cruises under 100 mph. You have to have some real power to do that, and light weight. High nitro works wonders in a .40 LA and a K&B .45. I'm a speed demon... I can't help it.

Yeah, but his dinky little Millenium Falcon won't 3D like my U-Can. Made him jealous. Sicked Chewie on me. I dealt out a Jedi butt-whuppin.
Wow I'm a nerd...
