Oh, It's not really as bad as it sounds. She knows that I buy all kinds of stuff all the time. More comical really. I sell lots of stuff on Ebay and use the money for my flying interests so she doesn't have a problem with it. [X(]

leaning towards the OMP 70" v2 Kat....

That's a tough one Ron. I've been flying the heck out of my OMP Katana and love it. I really haven't flown the UCD lately because I haven't progressed with it enough to keep me interested. [X(] I wonder what the 70 Kat is like. [:-]

ROB C - Thats nice looking plane !!!!

DOUGWILL - I used an Dual Action Badger airbrush on the foamy and paint from Faskolor which is what the guys with the Lexan bodies on R/C cars, trucks buggies, etc use. The paint comes in tons of colors plus pearls and faslucents too.

I just got my airbrush last August and they are pretty simple to use and it seems to provide a better, higher quality job than spray cans.

When you get your's I'll paint it for you (I'm going to talk you into getting one, one way or the other)

Well Well Well.... Long time no talk for me.


I have been having a ball with my U-Can. Winds here in OK have been at about 15-35 mph in the evenings.[X(] It makes for some AWESOME flying with the U-Can. Let me tell you... if you are scared of the wind... DON'T BE!!! If you can fly the U-Can on high rates you can easily handle any winds. This thing is just a blast in high winds. Let it weathervane, pull the nose up, and fly it backwards right past you. I promise it will make the kids go wild.

Okay... now for what I was really posting for...

My poor plane is quickly acquiring more than it's fair share of hangar rash. I'm planning on stripping it down to frame and recovering it this winter. Not that I wouldn't like to get in some snow time with it, I just don't think I'm getting the best out of it with an extra 1/2 pound of epoxy hanging on it. So... are there any covering jobs that any of you are just dying to see on a U-Can? I was thinking of an orange/black tiger stripe pattern with the colors reversed (black/orange) on the bottom of the wing. Give me some suggestions. I want something unique, and having a lot of ideas to kick around would be awesome.

Help!! I accidently poked a hold in the yellow covering. I hate to go buy a whole roll of monokote.
I ordered what I thought was the right trim piece from Tower. On their site it said "yellow" for the
color of the trim but it got here and it wrong.

Is there anybody kind enough to mail me a 3" x 3" piece to patch this hole? I would really really
appreciate it. I am assuming it is cub yellow since the regular yellow does not match.\

Also, when the belly pan goes on it says to epoxy it. Do you remove the covering first or since
there is no stress on this part does it just glue monokote to wood?

I think I have some cub yellow, pm your address and I will put it in the mail if I do. You will want to remove the covering and use 5 min epoxy, hold it in place yourself while it dries. I would also suggest enlarging the wing bolt holes and harden the area around w/ ca, it's hard to see the bolts in the "darkness" of the bellypan. You could also glue a portion of paper tube, I use the servo extension tubes for keeping the wires tidy for tail mounted servos, this will give the bolt a "tunnel" to the outside world See the example in my G202 kit manual, page 23 step 13. Even though it's not stressed the on/off process puts stress on the front/back depening on how it fits, mine is coming loose in the back, winter maintenance!!!!

Below is clipped from a review from Tower Hobbies web page for UCD46. Note gluing 3 strips into belly pan.
I followed these instructions and removed covering only where strips were glued. It has held great so far. Use a solder gun or hot butter knife to cut covering. Just another idea.





It's a good idea to read through the 27-page manual before starting. It includes a lot of tips and pictures to guide you through the assembly. The first order of business was to iron out the wrinkles; this took me approximately 45 minutes. Some of the control surfaces had a few stubborn ripples remaining, but they were minor. A one-piece wing gets the construction off to a flying start. After removing the covering from the aileron servo mounts and wing bolt holes, you will cut the CA hinge material into 1" squares. The ailerons are installed first, the hinge slots are pre-cut but may require a little cleaning up, and the procedure for the hinge installation is clearly explained in the manual. To add a little stiffness when attaching the belly pan I chose to run three 1/2" x 1/4" balsa stringers across the width of the belly pan, one in the middle and one towards each end. I removed the covering on the wing under these stringers, then used Pacer 5-minute Z-Poxy to attach them. Remember to position the belly pan as far back as possible.

Save yourself the trouble of uncovering and gluing the belly pan. Just place a thin, VERY thin bead of silicone caulking on the belly pan, then place it on the covered wing.

I use silicone caulking for almost every non-structural item on a bird (sealing throttle lines, securing pilots, canopies, etc.). It's cheap, works like a charm, and can be removed if needed. The problem is putting too MUCH on. It takes just a very little silicone to secure ANYthing. Give it at least an hour to cure.

I put a toy Dalmation (four legs with less than a quarter inch space on each of four paws) inside my Can-Do 60. I augured in the Can-Do, but the Dalmation is still there, awaiting the resurrection of the airframe--canopy is unharmed, unmoved--and the airframe around the canopy is undamaged, making me think the silicone actuall ADDS some structural flexibility and strength to the whole. Not one of my pilots under the canopy has EVER come off--and though I don't crash any more, I don't crash any less, either. Think about it.

sorry about this one im not sure why it did this

I have used the carbon fiber control rods. Made them myself and used some Dubro couplings. Works great. I just cut off the ends of some 2-56 rods and glued them into the carbon fiber and put a short section of aluminum tube on the end to keep it from splitting. [8D]

Well I am flying a UCD 46 now.. looking for skills on the Hover... I used a Thunder Tiger .61 on the plane for power... I tried to add some weight on the tail but on the hover the plane goes laterally and I can fight it to vertical.... Then I decided to remove the tail-weight and it seems to imporve a little bit... I am using a 12x6, but Im waiting for a 13x 4... if anyone has a set up for this plane for a nice hoevering or tips for a better 3D performance!iI will apreciate it!
