OK guys I just discovered this thread and I am very interested in gettinga a UCD .46. I have to ask you anyway. The budget right now will only buy the plane! Since I happen to have a TT .46 and JR equipmet to fit it with standard servos.
Here is the question: Is this plane going to be worthy with this plant and equipment? or should I look in other direction!
Please advise; Thanks

I think I will be getting the UCD anyway, and fly it with the plant that I have until (Pinching here and there I can produce a 4 stroker) BTW If anyone knows about a decently used one, please let me know!).
On the other hand it will be more docil to my unnexperienced stick pinching fingers (I don't use thumbs!) and give it a little time for the Saito, since I just left my Arrow trainer. I am currently flying (2nd flight) a Sea Bee from Phoenix models, which seams to be pretty good to learn pattern but I have read so much about the UCD that I want to give it a try..

I was trying not to discourage CJPOSADA from getting the UCD, but RCLEMENT is right, even the manual calls for 50 oz./torque servos and a minimum of the 70 Surpass 4 stroke. I even bought the other suggested motor, the OS Max 50 SX (a $160 motor!!!) only to find that it wasn't enough. There is a review that was written by a guy who had a .46 AX in his and he ran (Futaba) all S3003's and a S3010 in the rudder who said he had a blast for 3 seasons before going bigger!! I think rtn9105 hit it on the nail with the rubber band comment. The only other thing in question is the radio. I'm not sure what radio you have CJPOSADA, but this plane does pretty much require a computerised radio. With dual elevators and twin ailerons for a total of 6 servos (2=wing, 3=tail 1=throttle) you won't be able to enjoy flaperons or ailevators and dual rates are a must (unless you have exponential turned way up). Plus you might want to mix certain controls. I had a JR 421EX and it wasn't near enough radio for this airplane. I guess I could've flown it with the 421 and the OS .50 SX but I wanted to have this thing able to do anything it was able to do so bit the bullet and started building up the arsenal. I now have a better radio all around and am shopping for the 4-stroke as we speak. After the motor, I only need to switch from 4.8 volts to 6 volts to beef up what servos I have available, but those too will end up getting upgraded.
My present issue, Tower is having an up to $30 (on orders over $225) off sale right now. That means I could get an OS Surpass .91 II, brand spanking new for about $219.99!!! I know it's no Saito and it's a lot heavier, but! Why doesn't Tower sell Saito!!! I've never seen anyone (esp. Horizon) run sales like Tower does, so I doubt there is a way to get the Saito 82A new, for less than $254.99. I am not to inclined to buy a used engine, not that that there are any Saito 82's available!! Everyone who has one loves it and won't sell it. I'll keep looking, maybe a nicely treated, uncrashed, unflamed Saito might present itself. Heck, I might have to see if RCLEMENT still has that Saito 72 available. It might be fine for me for now. I know, I'll buy the Surpass for $219 and sell it on Ebay for list ($249) after the sale ends and buy the Saito. Nope, too much trouble!! I am so &*^# cheap!! RCLEMENT, still got that 72??? I might just bite!

Oops, I left out the 90 oz. rudder servo spec in the manual.
And GO FOR IT CJPOSADA!!! I was in the same boat (wait, weren't we talking planes?
) but for the same reasons as you, decided to step up to the plate and get into some Fun Flying! And mostly, to move up in the hobby. I wanted more challenge and better equipment for more enjoyment!
CJPOSADA, have you decided where you are going to buy your UCD. It is available for as little as $129 tax/freight free! I'll have to look back in the thread for the vendor, or I bet someone will chime it in for me!

Found it! Here's a great deal CJPOSADA,
http://www.wholesaletrains.com/Detail.asp?ID=200303297
If you buy before Sept. 30th you get an extra $10 in stuff or a $5 cash rebate from Futaba. Such a bargain!
Will that be VISA, Amex or Discover??

I'll chime in with my two cents worth. The best place to buy Saito engines is Chief Aircraft. They will sell you the 82 for $239. You just go to their website and down load the "internet special" and they will email you the price list. Simple as that.
They are a very good company to work with.
With all Saito engines, the people who sell them make an agreement not to advertise any price less than the one at Horizon. That's why you you never see any lower prices. But many stores will discount if you ask for their "good guy" specials.
Thanks
Barry

Hey, $10 is $10, unless it costs more for freight. I am relieved to know that the price is at least somewhat flexible. I am quite familiar with the "advertised" price syndrome. Heaven forbid anyone be able to compete for business!![:@]
Hook me up with your LHS, rtn9105 and I will also check with Chief and we'll see who can get a S82 on my doorstep at the best price. Thanks guys, you're a credit to the hobby!
We're getting quite a bit of rain here lately so I am doing other things (or not doing anything at all!) at the moment. Now would be a good time to take care of these details.
cjposada, Good choice! Welcome to the bunch. We'll see you when you get the box and you make sure to get the "UCD forum 101" treatment. there are some things that you are going to want to do that aren't in the book. Some things to be aware of and some upgrades that will "shore up" a couple of things that they missed at GP and generaly give you more plane to work with.
Talk to you soon,

OK, Chief wants $239 + 7.95 s/h for the Saito FA-82A. Not bad. We'll see if your LHS has a better deal on s/h or not but it looks like they'll beat Chief! Looking better all the time![sm=thumbup.gif]
Thanks rtn9105,

I think I'm Ok with my radio. I did buy a good radio with the trainer. I am using a JR 6102, computerized and 6 channel. Those are the servos that I am planning to use.

CJ the standard servos will be fine for all the surfaces but the tail you will need a high torque servo your 46 will fly this plane fine just dont expect a 3-D monster like I posted mine has a OS 61 and that motor draggs the plane through the air its a light model but it does need some power to get it really going.it is just a great fly arround plane if you want to set it up with the basics try reversing in its mount one of the elevator servos and use a Y harness to connect the servos you have to match the elevator halvs well for proper trim but it will work for a good price tower has a deal on them they are 150.00 and they are running deals all the time a HD servo is going to run you 50.00 I think for that you get a 25$ discount

You mean the rudder servo? yes it is a huge surface and it would be wise to put a high torque servo.
As far as the radio is it posible to mix elev with some auxiliary channel and mach them?

to hook up the dual elevators you will need a servo reverser and they will be fine.

MIXMASTER.... Great on your T.T.!!! It does wonders when you take your flying abilities to the next
level!!! One thing to remember on the "low and slow"... P P
Nice pics Rob
I got my S-82 NIB from ebay, Got a few engines at atleast a $15/20+ savings from other sellers.
Guess it can be risky... But so far so good... worth a check IMO...
