Now that i have about 20 excellents flights on my UCD3D46 I want to move my tank on the CG. Can somebody that has done this tell me what i would need to make this happen? Parts etc... Also which tank did you use to fit in that little area. Thanks a bunch

Finished up my UCD 46 today. AUW is 5 1/4 lbs. CG is 5 1/2 inches. Fiberglassed firewall and LG so they hopefully won't come out. Saito 72. Time to fly!

Holy moly, AstroMan!! Your UCD 46 weighs only 5 1/4 pounds with fiberglass reinforcing? Thats a very light weight UCD 46. It should be a super performer with the Saito 72 you're using. If it doesn't blast straight up out of a hover it may mean that your scale is wrong.

My UCD 46 weighs 6 1/2 pounds with a Saito 72 and I'm using 30% fuel to get good acceleration out of a hover. My UCD must be way heavier than everybody else's. If my scale is wrong it can't be reading more that 1/4 pound high.

Your scale is probably right. My UCD46 with an OS50SX weighed in at 6 1/4 pounds. I was not happy about it. GP says it should weigh 5 - 5 lbs. 10 oz.. I was using an ultra light weight Lithium Ion Battery too along with all the light weight stock hardware. Never got a chance to see how she would prop hang. The fuse above and below the horizontil stab broke on its maiden flight. Waiting for a prepaid shipping lable from GP so I can send it back for a replacement plane.

Mine weighs in at about 5lbs 12oz W/ Saito .91 and a 5 cell 1600ma NiMh pack. Sounds like GP isn't too consistent with the wood quality in these things.

Hoping for my second flight tomorrow morning. Finally got the cowl mounted along with a remote fueler and remote glow adapter.

What is everyone using for a spinner? The dinky little one that comes with the kit is just too little for larger props. A 14x6 Master Airscrew won't even fit between the lugs. I got the APC 14x4W to fit after whittling half the spinner away, but I'm worried the 14x4 may be a little small for the .91. We'll see tomorrow, though...

I am using a 2 1/4 Tru-Turn "Ultimate" spinner ($14.00 or so) w/an APC 13 x 8 prop. And of course the Tru-Turn adapter kit ($14.95). It's pricey but it looks good, all on a Saito .72.

Just use a nice red or blue rounded prop nut. Makes using ANY prop soooooooo much easier. Espcially an APC.

Yes, 5.25 lbs. and that includes carbon fabric reinforcing on the gear block but I'll double check my scale, and try another one just to make sure, though it doesn't feel that heavy. I was worried about the CG but after stuffing the batteries up against the firewall it came out ok at 5.5" My only real weight saving measure was using an HS-81 for the throttle. Haven't flown yet, waiting for wifey's permission

I'm using a C.B. Associates plastic spinner with an APC 14x4W prop on my Saito 72. This spinner has a plastic cone with a metal backplate and has no lugs inside. It comes with an adapter nut that replaces your prop nut but you'll have to buy a metric adapter nut to fit the Saito. You'll need to use your Dremel tool on the spinner cone to fit it to the prop. I bought my spinner and nut at a local hobby shop.

Associates and Dave Brown aluminum spinners.

Good idea with the prop nut Rick. Aluminum spinners drive me absolutely crazy! $30 FREAKIN' dollars for everything you nee to make em work! Slap a prop nut on and be done with it. GEEZE!

Maidened my UCD 46 today and over all I can't say I'm that impressed. It flies like a very lightly loaded airplane, and that's about it. After about 6 flights I'm slowly ratcheting up the stress, and it seems to be taking it all very well. Very easy to hover. Needs more right thrust. Doesn't do harriers all that well, even with spoilerons up. And what's up with the wicked coupling in knife edge??? Maybe a cg change? It's exactly 5.5 inches back. I spent about a day tightening the covering, and it still drums like it's going to explode at any moment! (reminds you that if you go too fast it will!!) Forget the recommended throws and swing 'em as far as possible, it might almost be enough. Not that I'm unhappy with the airplane, it flew almost hands off from the get-go, lands at a crawl, no bad habits (except the coupling) and is extremely honest. 5.5 lbs Saito 72

Got a couple more flights on mine today, too. I really didn't notice the drumming, but there was a slight vibration sound. May be the same thing you're talking about, but it wasn't bad at all. This thing really is easy to hover. I think I hovered for about 30 seconds and never touched the right stick. Mine pitches to the canopy pretty bad in knife edge. No mixes set up yet. Gonna play with those next time out. ? Couldn't get it to flat spin, wither. I think the CG needs to be moved back a little more.

This thing flies a lot different than my OMP edge. Not worse, not better, just different. But I think once I get it dialed in, it will be a lot of fun.

I just finished my new U can Do And I love the plane.I hope it flyes as good as it looks.I had quite a bit of ironing on the kit as it came with quite a few wrinkles in it. I am running a OS Max 65 in it. I hope that it is enough engine and am trying a 13-4 prop.That is if it quits raining long enough to fly it.Any comments or help would be appreciated.as this it my first 3D plane

Yeah, if you look, 1/2 of the w in Wega is a dark grey. And the other half is white. Technically, the white and grey should be reversed, but for the amount of money they're paying me (nothing ) I'll leave it backwards!

I didn't really explain anything so here is the abbreviated version,

A tree ran out in front of me during an off runway landing and obviously sheared the wing tip off.

I should have just bought another wing from tower for 50 bucks, I missed two good flying weekends because of my recover job.

hey Guys, I gotta quick question. What are you using for servo reversers for those of you who dont have a radio that will do dual elevator servos. I have a T6XAS and will mix it, but the trim dosnt work on the other servo. ive heard alot of problems with a few and I wanted some input. Thanks!

I use something from the LHS called the Magic Wire, but Tower sells the same thing. It's a y harness that reverses one of the servos so you don't have to mix it with your radio. It's about 20 bucks.

Futaba T6XA, not a T6XAS, the difference is the AS has exponential and the A doesn't. I wish I had expo, anyway, I'm using Futaba 3001's for the elevator and 3004's for the ailerons and a Hitec 605 BB for the rudder, pull-pull setup.

Wow, Sounds like an almost Identical setup except the Pull Pull Rudder and The XA. What motor are you pulling it with?

This question has probably been answered but I have spent "sometimes" reading thsi long and interesting thread without really finding The answer. If you can give me a pointer...

- Does someone flies the UCD 46 with an OS 61 FX (2 strokes)?
- Is the 61FX enough power to hover?
- What size of prop do you use?
- Does it solve the "tail heavy problem" I read about many times?
