U-Can-Do 3d 46?

That was the first one in 6 or 7 flights, you need to make sure the low end is lean enough to stay running at low throttle, it may speed your engine a little so trim it back down with the throttle servo, they do load up as you dont fly this plane fast, either that or you need to keep it cleared out, an onboard glow is another option, smart-fly.com has a good one that hooks up to the throttle servo and senses when the servo is at low position and keeps the glow plug lit, or you can try a hotter glow plug.

Other than the fuel problem, how did yours fly on the Surpass 2 .90, i am kitting mine up with a Surpass 1 .90 and just wondering what to expect, i have found it has sorted out the tail heavy problem, now needing no lead to balance. Did you modify the stab on yours?

From: Center of the Flyover States,
I hopefully won't have this problem as I lowered my fuel tank to the proper position. I still have sort out control problems with my Futaba 9C to actually test the fuel management problem.
Squid1, I reenforced the stab mount with triangle stock under the stab mount. I also added a strip of carbon fiber on the top and bottom of the stab trailing edge. I think the tail will survive the crash!

In regards to the motor for this plane. Indeed everyone keeps screaming saito .91 for this baby but the plane is so light (even after you reinforce things with some epoxy) that there really isn't a need for the .91. I mean, if you can hover at 1/4 throttle, why not save some cash and stress on the airframe and put a 70 in it.
I have a KB .61 with aftermark carb (13x4 prop) in mine and it hovers at just above half throttle and still has plenty of juice to get me out of any trouble.
So don't fret if you don't have a $200+ motor for this plane. Any hot 50 or 60 sized 2-stroke will enable you to do almost anything. Unless perhaps you want to hover at idle.

I put a 227 hp turbo-charged Subaru boxer engine on mine, it hovers on intial start up. All I got to say is "TROTTLE MANAGEMENT".
I was a little agressive at first and pulled the plane in half longitudianally (newbie mistake). I just got out the CA and was back flying in 3 seconds.
Plenty of authority to pull straight out of the atmosphere, my first one burned up on reentry so I decided to fiberglass the fuse and it solved the problem.
Great plane but no match for my 42% Edge with a Chevy 350 V8.

Dynodan, now that sounds like fun. Gotta ask, any flutter, fuel tank on cg, what octane fuel, are standard servos strong enuff, what size prop and did you have to change out the landing gear? Can you post pics and a video? How much did you have to beef up the firewall? Did you have to do anything special to the radio to make it work with the additional range? DETAILS, we need DETAILS!!!!!!!

Ok guys.. I'm going to buy a UCD 46... This is what I plan on using: OS .70 Surpass II, Hobbico CS65 Servos and the Futaba S3010 for Throttle, an APC 14X4 Prop. I will also be using a Remote Glow igniter..... Any reason I should be changing before I buy? Thanks in advance for the info...

I am planning to jump on this UCD wagon. I see that many are going waay outside the recommended power range. Of course this is commonplace these days. I haven't seen anybody try a Magnum .52 yet (might exist, got tired of reading after 20 pages or so in this forum). Its on sale at the moment for $79.99 (I am an involuntary cheap flyer). If you haven't seen it in a UCD, have you seen it in a comparably sized/weight plane? Really seems like a good value for this plane and engine combo to come out under $250.
