gjeffers. Oh, I recgonize it now. You just aren't quite in the inverted flat spin yet. Silly of me not to recgonize it. Don't know how I could miss it. You haven't answered my question yet about the 100. Is it enough?
Thanks.

gjeffers,
Holy moly, what size Saito is that sticking out of your UCD 46 cowl?

That's my UCD fleet below.

My high mileage UCD46 has a Saito 72 (there was no Saito 82 when I assembled it).
One UCD60 has a Saito 100 and the other one has an OS91 2-stroke.

Rocketman, That's quite a gaggle of UCD's you got there. [8D] I'm envious!!

Well, I've tried to do some more mixing on my 9C with my UCD but seemed to only have messed it up further. I might have to just delete the program and start over. [:@] Either that or my new UCD is sensing what I did to the last UCD and is rebeling.

you guys have cursed me with all the talk of Flat Spin Landing. I did my 60 in today. The damage is sever but probably still repairable. I'm not sure whether to repair it or not. I was having such a great time with this plane. And I must admit, this year that was my 49th flight without a crash. Last year in the first 11 flights I was down 3 airplanes. I've still got the 46 and "it'll have to do". I might just retire the 60 and move on in that size. It doesn't matter how many or how few a times I crash I'm still heartbroken when I do it. This is plane number 8 for me. You think I'd learn. Well, I feel better already. Just talking about it. I better go fire up another plane for tonight. 46, here we come...
Thanks,
Barry

CeeGee, In all my grief I missed what you'd said about your radio. That's a bad deal. I know when you want spoilerons/flaps you have to activate the Aux channel programming. I asigned mine to VR A which just allows me to dial as much or as little as I want. It didn't seem to bad on the programming. Maybe when I get home to night I'll do a little refresher and post how to do it. Good Luck!
Thanks,
Barry

Rocketman, you havent been doing your reading, its a 100and more power +less drag =more fun(and fuel savings),just have to watch that speed!

maybe you need to move to Idaho flys Barry.

CeeGee, i would just maiden it with the old tx for luck(maybe).[]

Barry, Sorry about your .60... It never feels good, All we can do is
learn from it.... As they say, They all have numbers on them, You
just never know when your number will be called... Heads up guy!!
But you have it right, Gotta get back up!! Well once the time is
right let us know what happened....

I almost downed mine this morning, My engine is still running funny
when it wants too....., I have been hover up higher since my engine
problems started, But this morning it seemed to be running better, so
I go vertical then into a nice flat spin, fly out inverted and apporch the
runway and pull into a hover about 8' or so and started to let it tail
slide.... Then the engine goes into it's flooded mode:-((... Luckily it
cleared out a second or so after nailing it and I saved it.... Guess I
have to stay higher until I find the problem... think I'm going to
take it apart and give it a look see, but after our fly-in this weekend.

Rocketman_... Nice fleet!! Do you notice any flight difference between
the two .60's with the different engines/weight??

gjeffers... That was what I have been thing about..... Using one of
my 110's...... Having fun huh

Your starting to scare me Barry[]

now so i dont have to search to much, i read back a few pages that flaps can help landing in wind?
i was just thinking about flapping my plane, so do i flapperon or spoileron?(i assume flapperon is down)
Thanks

Spoilerons are a well kept secret. I use them quite a bit. Especially when I have a rearward CG. It really helps in landing. If it's windy make sure you complete your turn into the wind and at the runway THEN dial in 15-30 degree spoileron (flaps that go up not down) This will make the nose go down and be consistent without flare ups with wind gusts. Sometimes you'll start to fall a little faster than you want so you just give a little up elevator. Helps you land like a trainer. But you lose a lot of control in the turns with spoilerons, or flaps for that matter. So I always try to do all my turning before deploying them. Try it first with a smaller amount to get the feel for it. This also helps in non pumped engine applications as the fuel drains off the nose gets lighter. Spoilerons lessen the effect. I use a little spoileron in my flat spins although it can make it hard to recover, (hence the now famous "flat spin landing") but it will make your flat spins nicer. Just make sure you stop spinning with enough altitude to recover nicely. And last but not least, I use them in hover. It makes that easier also but again not so easy to recover although not to bad. In spins and hovers I only use about 5 degrees. Be sure and turn them off when you complete the maneuver or your other flying will be compromised. It's a true 3Ders secret so don't share it with too many people.
Thanks,
Barry

Barry, my tx is not switch variable, only when i go into the setup,so would 15-30deg be somewhere in the neighborhood of 1/2-1in of movement?

Thanks

Don't forget to switch it off after landing, Or you'll need more runway to
get up on the next flight.... Don't ask how I know:-)... But I guess for
you Gary, it would be no problem with that 100 in there:-) I have mine
setup on my flap switch...

The UCD60 that I wadded had a Saito 100. I've been thinking about what you said. Maybe I'll take that engine in put it in the 46. What could it hurt? You seem to like yours. HuMMMMMMMMMmmmm...
Thanks,
Barry

Do it,its really a little over-rated as to how much overpowered it is! i will be a power nut from now on
I really do love how it flys and i believe its well within the limits of this plane, providing you dont overspeed.
DO IT!

and ill try to remember Ron,but the brain cells are going fasttttttt[sm=bananahead.gif]

gjeffers: I'm looking at my spoilerons, I'm guessing I would normally use about 1" and maybe up to two inches on real windy days. If I were you I'd start with about 3/4" or so and get the feel for it and then you'll probably want a little more. But it definetly has a different feel to it. Takes a little getting used to.
Thanks,
Barry

Rocketman_... Nice fleet!! Do you notice any flight difference between
the two .60's with the different engines/weight??
Since I couldn't remember their weights I weighed them last night and found there was no significant difference between the two.
The OS91fx powered UCD60 weighs 8 pounds and the Saito 1.00 powered UCD60 weighs 7 pounds 15 ounces, a one ounce difference.
As far as flying goes, I feel that the Saito 1.00 powered UCD 60 is easier to hover.

Oh, by the way, there was a time when I repaired props and glow plugs. Barry Cazier may be joking with you but I'm not.

Hey guys, Spud here with all this talk about the 9 chan. radios, I had to go out and buy one. I got the futaba super 9C synth.. I still haven't picked up a prop for my UCD. I also have to do the LG mod and tail wires. I want to put the ball type connecters on the control surf. also. But I was thinking of flying with the Z-bends and clevis until I get around to that. What do you guys think? With the 9C I mapped the switches close to my 7UAP. The three toggle switches on the front are the D/R-Exp, the three pos switch [ up is ele-flp, mid is nothing, dwn is spoil.], the slider on the rt is thr. trim, & the two pos. swc. on the rt top is the actuation of rud-ail & rud-ele. I have the spoil. set to 3/4" this used to work good on a Fun-One fm great planes I used to fly, & my tribute flatty currently in inventory.

To the other vets out there, I'm currently still in the reserves. I'll have 22 yrs of service on 05/05. When I was active in 1983-86 I used to fly around in an OV-1D Mohawk. During the VN war the commander of the 131 Air surv. co., used to keep an iron bucking bar on his desk. Because of the shape of this tool it was called an iron spud, & so the call signs for the 131st and later the 15th MI AE was born. Just some useles info but history just the same.

SPUD37 is off high left
