RE: U Can Do 3D

I have the saito 100 on mine and love it. As far as YS goes yes typically a YS will have gobs more power than engines of equal, but are known for being a bit fussy. My saito 100 will idle forever smoth as can be and pleny of power for this plane. my vote is for the Saito and if you wish to move the fuel tank over the CG then I would get a pump for it. Otherwise leave it as is.

I have a Saito 100 on mine and I love it. I started with an O. S. 91 and just didn't have enough power. My tank is behind the firewall, and once it is tuned I haven't had any problems. One other guy that I fly with runs his Saito with a pump and the tank on the CG. If I had to do it again I would go with that setup. Will know more about the YS as soon as Wayne gets his in the air

My 2 cents worth, I have two of them. One with a satio 100 and one with a YS 91. As to my flying style. The YS 91 out performs the 100 hands down.
Faster out of the hole, more reliable, never a cough that I get form the 100. weight I don't see as a factor. Both have more then enough power to do any thing you want it to do. Knife edge loops do require that I start with more speed enter the loop with 100.
I was going to switch out the satio for a YS 91 but have decided to sell the plane instead. Just don't need two of them.

rcpilot3, How did you paint your canopy?

RE: U Can Do 3D

Just used some gray Metal flake car paint that is used for R/C car bodies. Painted the inside of it.

I have to agree with rcpilot3. I have a Saito 100, and my friend has a YS91 in his U Can Do. The YS has a definite edge on power. Others have said the YS was finicky to tune, but from what I have seen, this is my last Saito. His is far more consistent, and WAY easier on the fuel.

The YS110FZ is about 20g lighter than the 91FZ. Just looked at Tower, and seems like the 91FZ has been replaced by the 110.

I fly UCD with YS-110, prop APC 17x6. Have plenty of power to start like a rocket from a hover. I had YS-91 in this plane some time ago, and was wondering how is 110 will perform - now I can say - it's great. One bad thing is that I have to move battery pack to the tail to correct CG.

Awesome info guys! Glouck, do you have your fuel tank on the CG?

My tank is on the CG You'll need a fuel regulator, get the Iron Bay for 43 bucks. it's a beauty. On the CG is the only way to go. I love this plane, today I was torgue rolling all the way down to and including the ground. OOPS

I did a wall 5 ft over the runway, and ran out of fuel. It did a hammerhead right into the ground. Broke the fuse forward of LE former. Anybody need a wing?

Hi Seanychen, sorry on your loss. Are you getting another UCD or something else ?

LOL. I did the same thing tonight. I did a wall about 15 feet above the runway, the engine died and the plane fell forward. I gave some up elevator, but there was not enough speed to pull out. I tore the Saito off and broke the engine mount, but it's pretty easily repaired. I need to get a new mount and do some epoxy work. I hope the engine was not damaged. It looks fine and turns over well and has good compression. I'm gonna check the valves just to be sure. Not sure why the engine died because it's ran great all summer. Worst part is I was doing walls all night long up high, but the first one I did down low stopped the engine :( Oh well, ***** happens.

RE: U Can Do 3D

Central Hobbies seem to have the best price on the YS110FZ, about 90 bucks lower than Tower. That puts the 110FZ only about 40 bucks more than a Saito 100, based on Horizon's pricing. That diff is easily obsoleted if you consider a regulator with the Saito

Hi Coomarlin, it will be great if you can post a pic or two to show the weak points of the firewall. Good luck in your repairs.

RE: U Can Do 3D

put a regulator on that saito and it will never quite again, You can't believe the difference! Without the regulator my plane sounded like somebody was beating a snare drum. Afer I put the rueulator on, it was dead quiet. Everybody wondered what happened to my engine. The Saito is the lightest engine there is for the power. I'm sure the YS is nice, I just didn't want the extra weight. For my flying, 1/2 pound of extra weight is a lot

Rajul I'll try to take some picks.

John, I am running a cline setup. It's worked great this entire summer. I'm not sure what made the engine quit. It was at the worst possible time. That was the first dead stick I've had as far as I can remember. And up until the point it died tonight it was running like a champ. I'm gonna have to closely inspect it.

rajul 10-08-2003 09:31 PM

RE: U Can Do 3D

Hi Coo, I was made to understand that the cline membrane needs to be changed every year or so, but yours have been through only a season. Should be OK. Check the basic stuff first like air leak or loose klunk, etc
