This one is about one year old. I havn't noticed any indication of sucking air. I'll keep an eye on it. $14.00 isn't light, but I would replace it if I have to. Joe

That's OK. 3 to 4 degrees of right thrust gives cleaner uplines. You could mount the cowl tilted to the right to center the spinner.

If you file the elongated mounting holes on the engine mount to make them slightly longer the mount will now sit further over to the side allowing the spinner to be more to center when angled. My mount came out as flush with the side of the fuse. Joe

You're right Joe, I did both. The cowl tilt in mine is very slight and unnoticeable

coomarlin, the black thing is a strip of velcro used to grab the plastic thingy the fuel lines are attached to. it was an initial idea of what I wanted to do but I may not stick with it. no pun intended :D


Rotcivv17, yes there is some angle there. This is my first plane and I'm sure I made other mistakes too. I was going for 4 degrees but ended up with more. Tried to take some out. Probably have 4 or 5 in it now. I tried to offset the mount and turn the cowl a little. It is not perfect but I'm not ashamed to fly it.;)

he flys that thing just like a heli and it is his first airplane.
we built ours together.
thought it would be neat to tag team the field when we got good at flying ours.
but it is to cold and windy to fly once again[>:]

UGLY! Put it in hard today. I was putting along real easy and the horizontal stab flew off. I thought it had broken at first because I've read about that happening. I had no pitch control so I leveled the wing and shut the engine. It porpoised down and wouldn't you know I was lucky enough that it landed during one of the "porpoises" while straight down. Slammed the spinner into a rock. I took a crash site photo with a camera phone so it's not a great photo. The most sickening part of it? I think it was my fault. This is a new build so I've been checking fasteners for tightness. I've neglected this one and I didn't Locktite it because I wasn't sure if I could transport it without removing it. No more than 10 flights on it and I let this happen. Crap-Ola!!! Live and learn.

I&C, sorry to hear about your loss. I epoxied my stab with two long CF strips on the top and bottom of the TE. The bolted-on option did not appeal to me as I found the assembly not rigid enough.

Bummer, Its amazeing how they all look the same when the expiration date is up. If it wasn't for parts being on virtual backorder they're cheaper than trainer parts. Good luck with the fix. I noticed something of interest on the fuse where the hor. stab mounts. This model (#3) has about 30 flights with nothing more than floating to the ground on a very smooth runway. Stress? #1 and #2 resulted in nothing less than severe impact but the tails were fine. Joe

Hey guys i cant seem to get my plane go straight flight.
it either wants to go down or up. no matter what throttle position.
i put about a half a pound of sockets in the front of the plane and it really didn't help that much.
my cg is appr 5".
what the heck am i doing wrong???
it also pourposes real easy it seemed to go away when i put the sockets in there but no matter what i do it wont go away.
the book i believe says 4 7/8" for cg so why would it make that big of a difference.
i know i read people flying at like 6"

Hi James, I remember you mentioned that you measure your cg with fuel in the tank ? That would put the actual cg way behind 5" and may explain the instability you encountered.

Raj is right. My experience with it is, it dosn't start to get weird till its back about 5.5" to 5.75" But something is not right my last three were nose heavy and required my gear to be placed further back. Then again I built a fourth one for a friend and the only difference was I used a plastic spinner on his as opposed to aluminum and his needed 3 oz. up front. Go figure. Joe

Sounds like something is wrong with your setup. The plane shouldn't be pourposing (sp?) with a CG of 5.0. Heck, I've got mine at 6.25" and it still flys great. Even a CG of 5 is on the nose heavy side if you ask me. I had mine set to 5.5 and still thought it needed to go back. Thus the 6.25" I am at now.

it is weird i am going to take the tank out and put all the gear and stuff were it states in the instructions.
i think my take is way to far back and i am having real bad problems with the tank fuel being used.

jim tell them where your fuel tank is or put a picture up. it's barely back further than mine and my plane wasn't doing that crap. (until the stab came off)

I called Tower last week and I was told mid December for a fuse. They must be on a slow boat from china, all I know is I miss flying mine and I have a nib ys110 waiting for a home.

Thats what I'm doing. I had so much fun with it I want another, but I just haven't decided yet. My try a something else for the 110 just don't know yet.

We had a guy at our field that had a UCD that would porpoise and I noticed that whilew he was running up his motor the elevators twitched. It turned out that the extension between the elevator servo and the receiver had a bad connector. When the engine was throttled up and down the vibration would cause the plane to bob up and down erratically. He probably flew it a dozen times and was about to throw in the towel when we noticed it. Replaced the servo and the extension and the problem went away.
