RE: UCD

James,

The ground for the remote glow driver needs to be attached to the engine somewhere. The easiest thing is to put it under one of the screws for the engine back plate.

Jim,
Your tank is further back than mine by 1/2" maybe. It's gonna make it a little tighter to squeeze the radio stuff in. Where ya gonna put the switch?

Hi Guy's
Quick question. There were 2 UCD's out at the field today one was very stable in hover ie: would just hang there
and the other one would start to tork roll as soon as it got to the stable hover. is this do to CG enginne thrust or what.

Later Mike,

UCD Fuel Tank Leak

Have just had the fuel tank leakage. Hadn't flown the plane much during the summer, it sat in the garage. Took it out today for the fist time in about 3 months. Must have put at least a cupful in the fuselage!! The stopper was loose, I guess with all the expansion and contraction during the summer the stopper creaped.
What is a good replacement tank[sm=confused.gif]

Nosram, don't change the tank. Just replace the old stopper with an Ernst Super Stopper. It comes with anti-warp nylon rear and front plates. The stopper screw doesn't get loose easily. I bought a few from Quantum.

RE: UCD & YS110?

Is anybody running this with a YS110? I just buried mine on Saturday. I went up to 1000' and did about 7 or 8 rolls before I snapped into a blender and it did about 2 revolutions and then dropped the nose and started spinning the otherway[:o]. I absolutely had no control. I think the battery must have broke loose. Anyway the only damage was to the fuse wich was totaled, and to the wing which is strucuraly fine just has some big holes in the covering. I will be getting a new fuse and instead of putting the OS91 back in it I will be switching to a YS 110 and was wondering what props you guy were using.

I'm using APC 17x6 prop with this combo. Also have tried MENZ 17x6 - both running fine.

Glouk, I just flew mine for the first time yesterday with a new YS-110 and an APC 16X6. I couldn't get it to slow down. Is this because I'm still breaking in the engine? Will it idle lower after break-in?

Yes, idle will go down after break-in. Mine has an idle at 1700~2000 RPM after running a few gallons of fuel thru it.

I had made a hatch about 3 inches behind the wing and the battery was zip tied in. I can't be for certain that it was the battery but as it was no longer attached to the receiver when I found the wreckage it is my 1st thought.

glouck-

does the stock gear with a 17" prop?

Dumped my UCD46

Well, I dumped my UCD 46 in the ground today. I just put the itts muffler and the cowl on last night and have a leak between engine and muffler. I had 2 deadsticks. The first was uneventful. The second however was a little tail heavy due to low fuel. The CG is back a little but it flies great. On the second deadstick it was windier and I was coming in lower. She pitched up, lowered the elevator and did a very hard harrier landing. The tailwheel assembly pulled out and took the rudder with it. 2 CA hinges seperated from their skin and the third just ripped in half. The fuse and the former behind the canopy cracked enough to rip the covering. It really was not that bad though and I plan on having it ready to fly again tonight. I will try and attach a photo. No stringers broke, luckilly!

Tough one Runover1, It sucks to spank the ground. All I can offer is that when I'm out flying my third UCD I never even think about the first one. Good luck on the repair. Joe

Surprised to see that the turtle deck is not sheeted in the 46 version

The UCD 46 is built lighter than the 60. I have both and lov'em.

Well I just picked up the YS. Looks sweet, I was thinking about getting a different airframe to put it in, but after thinking about how much fun I have had over the last 100 flights I going to have to order a new fuse. I don't think I have another airplane that I push as hard as this one. I geuss I have adopted the I don't care if I wreck it attitude and it has made it much more enjoyable. The only thing I will have to do on the new one is figure out the mixes for knife edge.

If there is a good thing it is that the wing is fine, besides the covering.
